Answer This Question

A:  I have found that i had to re pair it when this happens. It seems that the remote still works in most cases. In some cases however, I had to cut power to the module via the breaker/switch to get it to act normal again.

A:  Sorry to hear that you are having this issue. Please make sure that the dip switches in each set of remote and receiver is set to a unique setting. There is an installation video (located on the product page along with the alternate images) that covers this in detail. If that doesn't resolve the issue, pease call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) and one of the team members will be able to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Q:Can Amazon Echo Pro be used to control this without Wink hub since Echo Pro has built-in Zigbee hub?

A:  Thank you for your question. This remote requires the Wink Hub to take advantage of the remote's smart features.

      by|Jul 30, 2019

A:  No. The Amazon hub is VERY picky and will only work with the few devices amazon approves. This will work with smartthings (there is a custom device handler written for it, info is easily found online), Wink, Home Assistant, etc. In general, I wouldn't recommend the Amazon Hub for Zigbee devices for that reason.

Q:I saw an update from Hampton Bay that you can now control the fan using Alexa/wink directly, how do you do it?

A:  Thank you for your question. This particular remote is not compatible with Alexa or Google as it is packaged. In general most remote control fan can be converted to smart fans by adding the Bond Smart Wifi Ceiling fan remote hub (model # BD-1000). The bond hub acts as a translator between the remote and Google Assistant or Alexa.

A:  I control mine by going to SmartThings community. On their forum they tell you how to download a custom driver, publish it to the Samsung site, and attach driver to ST app. It's kind of a pain. I did finally get it to work, but whenever the power goes out, it breaks my connection, and I have to delete it, and start all over. After doing that twice, I gave up. Hopefully it sounds like maybe Hampton bay has written their own driver and it's easier? Where did you hear that you can control the fan using Alexa?

            by|Jul 3, 2019

A:  That has always been the case. It is a Zigbee controller, and can be controlled by any Zigbee hub.

A:  Thank you for your question. Yes, the fan connects to the receiver and the. The receiver has a power and neutral wire that connects to the house wiring. You can see how the connections are made by watching the installation video on the product page (located with the alternate images).

              by|May 22, 2019

A:  No it doesn't, all you need is load, hot and ground lines. Presumably, you already have a physical switch on the wall. Note that this only replaces the controller in the fan box not the switch.

A:  No neutral wire is required. This installs into the ceiling fan housing

Please delete the fan from your device list on the app. Then, reset the device by turning the fan on/off 5 times using the wall switch (wait 1 second between switch flips). This will reset the device. If you need further assistance. please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678).

A:  Thank you for your question. This remote is not compatible with Google or Alexa for voice control. For your purposes, we would recommend a standard remote used in conjunction with the Bond Hub (Model #BD-1000). The Bond hub acts as a translator between standard remotes and Google/Alexa devices.

A:  It sounds like you may be activating the mode that turns the lights on for a moment and then turns it off. From my understanding if you hold the power button for more then 3 seconds this mode is activated.

A:  Sorry to hear that you are having this experience. We would suggest changing the dip switch settings in the remote and receiver. The receiver may be receiving some interference from another device in the area. Changing the dip switch settings will set the remote to a different frequency and hopefully resolve the issue. If that does not resolve the issue, please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678).

A:  you can dim it from both, however there is a caveat here. You must tell the unit that the bulbs are dimmable. You do this by flipping a micro-switch inside the battery cover of the remote. If you do not do this, you will be unable to dim the bulbs from either the app OR the remote. The default setting when you get this is for dimming to be disabled. I don't know how they are linking the remote to the receiver, but that switch is a master setting.

A:  Of the light in the ceiling fan, yes. The device does not need to replace the wall switch. You do have to install a box inside the canopy of the fan.

A:  Thank you for your question. This is designed to control a ceiling fan, not just a ceiling light. The remote includes a receiver that must be wired to the house wiring and installed in the fan's canopy.

A:  Assuming that the fan is only controlled by the pull cords on the fan (i.e. always has power) then yes this would allow you to control it, including on/off and light. It also assumes that the fan and light have independent pull cords.
