A: This is installed in the same space as your slider. Your slider will close right to the pet door, which also helps to seal it from the outside weather coming in. So ultimately when your slider is fully open, the opening is 15.75" less than before the pet door is installed. I liked this because it was relatively easy for me, myself only to install with no cutting holes in the wall.

A: We ran into the same problem. Had the pet door for nearly month before a squirrel ran by and the dog flew through the door in pursuit. This might not be the answer you are looking for but in our dog's case, all it took was motivation.

A: Our 30# Cockerpoo charges in and out of this thing easily, many times a day. It took him a little while to get the hang of it, though. He had experienced a similar pet door at our daughter's house in Denver, where he learned quickly. He seemed to need retraining after we installed this one a month or so later. One of her three dogs could manage to go out, but didn't understand he could come back in. So, my guess is that this is a learning issue for your dog. You'll probably have to help him push the door and go in and out until he gets the hang of it.

Q:Does the door lock into this and this in turn locks into frame? I don't see anywhere that explains how you can still lock your door with this attached.

Answer This Question
A: Yes the pet door is attached to the slider opening with provided hardware and the sliding door itself then locks to the pet door very securely, if installed as outlined in the instructions. We have had this door for about 4 or 5 months and so far an excellent choice.

A: I do not but they are available from the manufacturer. This door is a quality product. In my situation were I was installing it against a slightly thicker existing patio door I modified the installation slightly. I called Ideal pet products and they were very helpful. The door is solid and seals well. We are completely satisfied with this product.

A: We have not been able to find replacement flaps. I would suggest you contact the manufacturer directly. We've had this insert for over a year now and the flap is still in good shape and seals well.
