A: I used this to prime a patch on my downstairs ceiling before painting the patch ceiling white. It works for that purpose.
A: Depends on what you mean by "patching." This stuff covers stains very well, but if your "patching" is a non-smooth surface, you should sand it smooth first.
A: I would say an hour would be the best time to wait.
A: Yes, I had purchased this paint. although the upshot was hard to disperse I did not have any issue with it drying. It was in a matter of minutes that it was ready for top coat. Defiantly in about 10 - 15 minutes.
A: i HAVE BEEN A PAINTER FOR 20 YEARS, DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING, WHEN YOU PUT THE FIRST COAT ON AT THE END OF THE DAY WAIT 1 HR APPLY SECOND COAT, LET DRY OVER NIGHT THEN PAINT IN THE MORNING
A: I am not sure about the wait time I’ve always primed all my spots and patched all my holes and then started painting the next day . I think I would wait a hour.
A: The paint dried fast, but it wasn't the right color match for me.
A: I do not know how much mold you have, but if you have a little mold, wear a mask and gloves, wash with soap and water, let dry , the spay bleach on the mold, let dry for 24 hours and the spary the stain blocker on it, let dry overnight and apply second coat if needed.
A: i would buy one of the cleaners on the market and clean the mold away first then use the sealer to stop it from coming back. There is a product out there that holmes the tv guy reccomends.
A: I recommend RMR-86 and RMR-141 for killing mold and removing surface stains. I think this covers something like a water stain or embedded stain on the ceiling and does some future stain blocking.
A: this is OK. It was the only can w/ a “up shot” (designed to spray directly at the ceiling)
A: I found this product to be a total waste. It didn't do what it was designed to do so I doubt if it will do what it isn't designed to do.
A: I sprayed it on mold last week. Seems to cover it up. I will see if next month it doesn't come back, only time will tell.
A: No. Use a strong bleach to kill the mold. Then after it's dead use this to restore
A: Yes you can and it’s so easy to use it works great.
A: Yes, this product blocks mold stains.
A: if you have dampness in your basement it my not stop it, you need to find out why it is damp in your basment, but what you can do it get a mask and safety glasses, clean all the mold the best you can , then wash with bleach and let dry for a day and then use the killz you can use multiple coats.
A: I wouldn't trust it to kill mold, but it will cover the mold stains once you've gotten rid of it.
A: Yes, quite well. Clean the area of any loose mold or dust, then stray. I've been pleased with the results on my ceiling.
A: yes
A: YES, PUT A MASK ON AND GLASS AND JUST SPAY SOME BLEACH ON IT AND WIPE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN WAIT TILL IT DRYS SPRAY STAIN BLOCKER ON LET DRY APPLY 2 COAT IF NEEDED.
A: Hi alanbdud, Thanks for writing in with your question. Kilz Upshot is a stain-blocker, so it should block mold stains. Make sure that the surface is clean and free of dust, grease, mold before priming. Once you apply your topcoat, the stains should not bleed through. Have a great day! Regards, Giovanna
A: Yes, the item will cover small mold stains.
A: We did not have any mold stains. But, it may cover mold stains.
A: Hi Patsy, Thank you for your question. We recommend to clean the surface either using a non-soapy detergent or a TSP substitute. I hope this was helpful, and best of luck. -Edith
A: We did clean the ceiling stain before applying Upshot, but we did not use bleach. You can use bleach if you want.
A: I don't think you would have to bleach the area. Clean it of any loose mold or dust, then spray. The product is designed to cover stains, so you shouldn't have to try to remove the stain first. I've been pleased with the results on my ceiling.
A: I did not, and it matched the old ceiling paint perfectly. Couldn’t even tell there was a stain.
A: You can try to use bleach to lighten the spot first, but Kilz can be applied over the stain - either way - as long as the surface is totally dry.
A: If the ceiling is smooth surface you can clean the stain area with just soap and water to remove dust. Let the area dry then spray first coat. If the stain is noticeable spray a couple of more coats of kilz. I let it dry between coats before applying more. Cover the floors and anything else with plastic to prevent the kilz primer from staining them. After you finish place a fan and open windows to remove the paint odors.
A: If you are covering over a mildew or mold stain, make sure that the mold and/or mildew has been treated first (bleach is a good start). But if the stain is not either of those two, you should not have to bleach anything first. I covered over a very old water stain (no mold or mildew) on our ceiling and I did not treat or clean it first except to dust it. Worked like a charm. I also used it behind my dishwasher where there was mold. We corrected the leak, then treated and removed the mold first before we covered it with this primer. Again, worked like a charm. Hope this helps.
A: DEPENDING HOW BAD THE SATIN IS, IF THERE IS MOLD ON IT , PUT A MASK ON , GOGGLES, SRRAY A DEGREASER ON IT, WIPE AS MUCH OFF AS YOU CAN, SECOND APPLY BLEACH ,IF IT A SMALL STAIN, PUT GOOLES ON GLOWES, TAPE OF AREA AND APPLY, 1 - COAT, IF NEEDED, APPLY 2 OR 3 COATS, SHAKE CAN BEFOE USING IF ITS COLD OUT PLACE CAN IN WARM WATER ON STOVE THEN SHAKE ATHEN APPLY.
A: ask the store , not me
A: YOU NEED TO COVER 2FT IN EACH DIECTION, COVER YOUR FACE WITH A MASK, SHAKE CAN VERY WELL BEF ORE USE, TAKE CAN SIT IN KITCHEN SINK FOR 1/2 HR IN HOT WATER SHAKE CAN AND YOUR READY TO GO.
A: I haven't had any problems with overspray when using this product. I sprayed a spot near the middle of an 8-foot ceiling and didn't bother to cover the floor or furniture, and I didn't notice any overspray below where I had sprayed. Of course it wouldn't hurt to put down a tarp or newspapers etc. just to be safe, but I didn't and everything went fine. Other spots I've sprayed have been next to the wall, so I did mask a small area of the wall to do those jobs. If you're spraying next to things like light fixtures, etc. I would mask them if possible, but the spray pattern is pretty narrow, so I don't think you'll have any problems spraying 13 feet above everything. Good luck!
A: I used this product on both 8’ and 9’ ceilings and had no problems with overspray at all. I covered about an 8’ diameter section with a drop cloth (over cabinets and granite countertops) and used a piece of cardboard (about 18”x 18”) as a shield that I held about 18” from the ceiling. I had very little residue on the cardboard and nothing noticeable on the drop cloth. The bigger issue that I had was that my ceiling had faded several shades over 20 years and I had paint over the whiter Kilz areas with custom matched ceiling paint. Good luck!
A: Hi ACCondensationWoes, thank you for your question. There are various factors that can affect an application. So, we would suggest reaching out to us directly so we can get more details about your project and provide the best information. Have a wonderful day! -Joanna
A: I understand your question. As a precaution I would cover at least 24". It all depends on how close or far you hold the spray can. I believe the recommendation is 12" from the spot you want to cover
A: I would say 10' . I think this would be good.
A: it will depend on angel of spray. it will have over spray
A: I believe so. The back of the can should tell you.
A: YES, I WOULD JUST GIVE A REAL LITE SANDING FIRST.
A: I think so. I believe that you can use Latex paint over Kilz upshot. I will also consult the paint department in Home Depot.
A: Hi ALOHOA, Yes, the Kilz Upshot Primer can be top coated with latex paint. ~Takhari
A: Yes you can.
A: It will not kill mildew. The area needs to be dry. If it is, then Kilz can hide the mildew stains with multiple layers applied.
A: PLEASE PUT A MASK ON WASH IT FIRST WITH A STRONG SOAP RINSE AND THEN CLEAN WITH BLEACH RINSE LET DRY , THE A HOUR LATER PAINT WILL KII Z MAY TAKE TO COATS.
A: For us it did. Hope you have the same good results.
A: It will cover over spots where mildew once grew. It does not kill mildew. If the conditions that caused mildew to grow in the first place are still present, mildew will continue to grow.
A: Hi Sophie, This product should not be used directly over mildew. Is does resist mold and mildew, but will not remove it. Instead, you do need to remove the mold/mildew first, then the primer can be applied. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Department. I hope this was informative, and best of luck with your project - Vince
A: I think Flex Seal is better suited.
A: I wouldn't recommend this product for waterproofing. I would think you need something thicker, something specifically meant for waterproofing. Hope this helps.
A: I suppose so if you put on a heavy enough coat. However, I would think there would be a more economical answer to that problem.
A: This item does seal particle board from moisture, however it will have to be resprayed.
A: Hi JB76, The Kilz Upshot does offer moisture resistance, but keep in mind that this it does need to be top-coated with some sort of coating. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Department directly. Have a good day, and best of luck with your project - Vince
