A: Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is best suited for bonding tub surrounds to flat, well prepared, drywall surfaces. It will bond the tub surround to wood stud framing if the surround is designed for this type of install, but keep in mind the surround may be sensitive to temperature change when the shower is in use so you should consult the shower surround manufacturer for complete installation instructions for wood framing members before you start. This product must be applied directly to the tub surround panel rather than the studs. For specific use instructions, we recommend you visit our website and review the product's technical data sheet.

Q:Will this bond Fiberglass Reinforced Panel to foam board or other substrates?
by|Feb 23, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. First, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Construction Adhesive is a latex, water-based product. It requires at least one bonding surface to be porous. It will not bond two non-porous substrates together such as a tub surround to foamboard. Second, this adhesive is not a trowel grade adhesive therefore for applications such as FRP panels this would not be recommended. Last, the Tub Surround Adhesive will not work in the temperature conditions you have described. Application temperature must be at 50 deg F or above and the same during the cure time. Q:Will this bond a tub surround to Greenboard and to drywall mud?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Express Tub Surround Construction Adhesive can be used with Greenboard and other porous bonding surfaces. Priming over mudded joints or nail holes filled with joint compound on drywall is recommended and should be done, but do not prime the entire wall when using a water based adhesive product.

Q:Can i mark my glue pattern on the back of the surround with a pencil prior to applying the adhesive?
by|Nov 20, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. Marking the back of your tub surround with a pencil is not a good idea as it can interfere with the adhesive bond and its development. This would be considered a contaminant at this point. Sounds like your tub surround or wall surface may not be well suited for using Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive. Please reach out to our team at 1-800-624-7767 and ask to talk with an application specialist if you need help.

Q:the surround manufacturer says to press the panel firmly to the wall, then flash (pull) the panel away from the wall, remove the release paper from the foam tape and then press the panel back against the wall. can this be done with this product?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. The term flash is assuming you may have a solvent based adhesive and may be a bit outdated. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product. At least one bonding surface must be porous. Pulling the panel away from the wall after adhesive application will cause this product to fail. Not knowing the brand or manufacturer of your tub surround does not allow us to fully address you question in a proper manner. Please reach out to us at 1-800-624-7767 so we can better understand the materials involved, and ask to talk with an application specialist if you still need help.

Q:Can this product be used to glue polyethylene plastic sheets to wood 2x4 studs?

Answer This Question
A: Based on the product description I attempted to attach Clear 3.5 mil Plastic Sheeting (2-Pack)(073257012843) to a clean 2x4 stud in a wall. After 9+ hours the plastic came right off with just a slight touch - it was barely holding there against gravity.
by|Oct 15, 2021
A: Thank you for the question. Unfortunately the answer is no, the Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive will not bond to polyethylene plastic. Perhaps you mean polystyrene plastic assuming this is a tub surround panel. If you need more help, please reach out to our Team at 1-800-624-7767 and ask to talk with the Application Specialist who can better guide you.
