Q:Can i use it for interior painting wood studs?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi there, this product is recommended for exterior use only.

    by|Dec 20, 2021

A:  The main benefit of this stuff is that it is supposed to provide excellent protection from weathering and the elements. (It will take more than one coat on bare wood too!) While it seems to be pretty good, for indoor use you could probably get good enough results with any glossy paint. That should give you a water-resistant finish too.

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi there! This product is a solid stain, which would be full pigment and no wood grain showing through. However, we do have a couple of clear stains. Please call us at 1-800-441-9695 for more information.

Q:I recently purchased a gallon of Olympic Elite in Oxford Brown. I have been using Olympic Maximum Solid acrylic latex stain for all my exterior wood surfaces for +30 yrs. but the Home Depot store was out of the Maximum base white. I assumed that this would be a equal to or better product but I am not so sure. I discovered that there is a slight sheen with this paint, (compared side by side with some Olympic Maximum on hand). All the solid stain from Olympic has been flat in the past. Is this planned or did I get something unexpected? Also, it took a lot longer for this stain to completely dry after 2 coats, it was slightly sticky after +8 hrs. drying time at 76 degrees F and moderate humidity. It showed finger prints and foot prints. Not sure if I would use this product again. Please Advise.

              Answer This Question

A:  I agree that the finish does have a bit of a sheen to it, but I liked that especially on my pier. As to dry time, I had the same experience as it taking +8 hours of drying time at 75-77 degrees. However, for both my pier and a deck one coat seemed to provide a resilient finish, even though I plan to apply two coats!

A:  I would anticipate some type of moisture issue!

              by|Jun 30, 2021

A:  You don't state if this is new wood (cured), painted or stained or if it's a composite. But here are some possibility's. If it's new wood, needs to be left to cure after construction. Treated deck woods hold a considerable amount of moisture that can impede with stains and sealants. The length of time is in dispute but I've always used the 30 day rule while keeping track of the rain. You want to give a day or 2 after a good rain. If you used this over another stain it's possible your prep wasn't adequate for all areas. Re-staining with a different product can be tricky particularly when the old finish hasn't been completely and adequately prepared. The 2 most important issues is cleaning and sanding. Any areas that showed signs of peeling or cracking before may come through a new stain. Other areas may have had a sheen that is blocking adhesion. These areas need to be roughed with sandpaper and cleaned prior to laying a new coat particularly if it's a different product than before. I would suggest lightly sanding the problem areas, wipe them down with a rag dampened with mineral spirits. Wait 24 hours and recoat those areas with the sealant. I think you'll find the finish holds better.

Q:Can Olympic Elite Solid be painted over Behr Deckover paint which is 100% acrylic? I am disappointed with Deckover and I am considering sanding areas where peeling and repainting with another product.

              Answer This Question

A:  You should be able to safely use this over the Behr. But you'll need to be sure to remove any peeled or potential peel before applying. You'll want to do a fine sand on all areas (even non peeling) to be sure of good adhesion.

              by|May 12, 2021

A:  Hi there, as long as the remaining paint is tightly adhered, the wood properly cleaned with a deck cleaner and sanded, it will be fine.

                Answer This Question

A:  You should be able to apply directly over the old. You just need to be sure the sending has remove any loose material. If the old peels further, the new stain will come with it. As long as the remainder of the old stain is solid, you should be fine.
