A:  In this context, indoor means this water heater is plumbed to vent out the top and requires some insulated stainless ductwork. Outdoor means it vents out the long slot at the top and must be mounted outdoors. A garage application is considered indoors. You could probably get away with an outdoor application in an open carport

A:  It can be installed outside on exterior of home with no additional ventilation required, if mounted interior it would require an additional vent pipe from unit to exterior. I mounted mine on exterior of home and I love it, it works great for 2 showers, any more than that I would recommend going to the next size GPM.
