A: Yes, Heather. Rust-Oleum Magnetic Primer can be used on wood surfaces. For best results, shake the can in an electric shaker in the paint department or stir paint thoroughly for at least 10 minutes, scraping the bottom of the can. Stir the product to a smooth, lump-free consistency and stir regularly during application. Apply at least 3 coats of primer and no more than 2 coats of top coat for maximum attraction.

Q:I'm going to paint the Rust-Oleum cabinet transformations over this (we've already painted the surface where we want this with the bond coat), but from what I've seen of that product so far, I can't imagine 2 coats of the white "base layer" covering this black paint completely- we had to do 3 coats of the bond layer on all of our cabinets for a uniform coverage. Then we'd have to do the glaze coat and clear coat still. Is this feasible? What is the best way for us to go about magnetizing the side of our pantry?

A: No need to. Light grey paint covered well. Adding anything to the magnetic primer would compromise the metal shavings in primer. Make sure you stir well continuously when painting. Metal settles on bottom. Also, only paint area recommended on can. Put as many coats on till all paint is used up. Do not try to cover more area.

A: No, we do not recommend adding any color or other pigments to Rust-Oleum Specialty Magnetic Primer. Doing so may likely affect the magnetic properties of the primer. We do not recommend applying more than 2 layers of a top coat of any kind over this product to ensure the magnetism.

Q:I have a number of small (9"x12") plywood panels that I would like to paint on one side with this paint. It seems to me that a roller wouldn't be the best application method for such small pieces, because it would tend to push them around rather than apply the paint evenly.
I have an air-powered sprayer, but I'm concerned that this paint might contain particles that would clog the nozzle. Is this a concern? If it's not a concern, would I need to thin the paint to apply it with a sprayer? If so, how much thinner should I add?

Answer This Question
A: The recommended application method for this product is using a foam roller.
by|May 3, 2023
A: We do not recommend applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Magnetic Primer with a sprayer. Applying this product with a sprayer will not ensure that the metal flakes are evenly distributed in order to make the surface magnetic. Also, this product is very thick and may not apply well through a spray gun. For best results, use a foam roller designed to give a smooth finish.

A: its primer... your top coat and color of choice is what will be washable. Why would you want to remove it?
by|May 4, 2023
A: Rust-Oleum Magnetic Primer is designed to be applied under a top coat of product. For a washable surface, we recommend applying a washable paint over top of the Magnetic Primer. To remove the primer from the door, simply sand the surface until it has been removed.
