A:  Correct there is no back light I never turn it on in the dark anyway

A:  Correct, keypad doesn't light up at anytime. Nothing to do to change I either turn the kitchen light on, or, I open the door to the Microwave and it provides adequate light to, say, find and turn the microwave light off at night. Also, as info, the microwave will not work when the timer is already engaged. Jim

A:  hi Samiam. i had the same unhappy discovery: keypad was unusable unless external lighting was On. dunno if this can be "fixed," it is lazy UI design IMO. at least we can be glad the door is not glued shut. if i am heating coffee before sunrise and don't yet want blasting room light, i hold the door open slightly, the internal light reflects off of me onto keypad, and i can see just enough to enter a time and rest my finger on Start before closing door (and pressing Start). FWIW. :)
