A:  Hi Shadrach78, thank you for your message. For load values on the BC post cap connection please see link below. To determine what would be the best option we would need to know what your demand loads are at that specific condition. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. https://www.strongtie.com/onepiecepostcaps_postcaps/bc_cap/p/bc

Q:What's the difference between the ZMAX #BC4Z-R and the #BC4 versions? They are the same dimensions and do the same job (right?). Is the steel gauge thicker in the former perhaps? Is the ZMAX rated for higher loads? And are screws or nails recommended?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hey Brian, this is Ricardo here with Simpson. Thank you for contacting us with your question. As far as the dimensions are concerned, they are the same on both part numbers that you provided. The steel gauge is also the same, but the BC4Z has a layer of zinc added to protect the part from corrosion. We call this coating our ZMAX coating. Lastly, there is no difference in the load values between the two and they both require the same size nail, which is a 0.162" x 3.5" common nail. If you have any other questions, please contact us at 800-999-5099.

A:  Hello Paul, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The BC post caps need to be installed with .162 x 3 1/2" nails. The bigger holes on the part are pilot holes and for manufacturing purposes only. Do not install bolts. If you need more information please feel free to contact us at (800) 999-5099. A:  Hello ELJames, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. As you found out the BC4Z is designed to Support a horizontal 4x (3-1/2" wide) beam on top of a 4x (3-1/2" wide) vertical post. In your case I suggest you review the BCS2-2/4Z Post Cap. On strongtie.com enter BCS2-2/4Z in the Search Strongtie.com field at the top of our home page. Review the dimensions, required fasteners and allowable load values to determine if this may be a solution for your connection. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.
