Questions and Answers for Titebond III 8 oz. Ultimate Wood Glue

A:  Yes, Titebond III can be used as a tongue and groove adhesive for wood laminate flooring. For flooring other than wood, a test should be used to determine if the bond will be strong enough to hold the flooring in place.

A:  Titebond III is not recommended for stiffening canvas for painting. All polyvinyl acetate (PVA) based adhesives will release acetic acid over time which will cause the canvas (cotton) to yellow and degrade over time. It is best to use a polymer designed specifically for canvas stiffening (gesso) which is made with acrylic polymers which will not release acid over time.

A:  No wood glue is stainable (contrary to some advertising). Wood glues will block the pores of the wood eliminating the ability of the stain to penetrate the wood causing staining defects. All glues recommend sanding before staining and this is what we recommend for Titebond III. Stain will paint and stick to Titebond III but will not allow the stain to penetrate the glue.

A:  Titebond III Wood Glue can bond with a strength up to 4,000 pounds per square inch of bonding area. Weight capacity of a chair is very dependent on the type of joinery (joints) used to tie all of the parts together. Mortice and tenon joints will be stronger than miter joints so a specific answer to your question cannot be given without knowing the construction of the chair. Typically, with most chair designs, Titebond III will be a good choice for your chair assembly.

A:  Yes, Titebond III Wood Glue can be used to build the seat of a wood rocker along with all other joinery for this wood rocking chair project.

A:  Titebond III will stick to painted surfaces, but the type of paint will dictate the bond strength. It is best to bond wood to wood and remove any paint before bonding. Titebond III will not bond to two painted surfaces as the paint will keep the glue from drying properly.

A:  Yes, Titebond III can be used to glue wood laminate flooring joints together.

A:  Yes, Titebond III will bond to pink (or Blue) styrofoam insulation board as long as it is allowed to dry. Since water will not evaporate through the foam board, the wall or substrate the foam is attached must allow for water to absorb and dry. If the wall is painted, coated or is moisture resistant, then use Titebond Fast Set Polyurethane Construction Adhesive.

A:  Coverage for gluing Titebond III is 250 square feet per gallon, which means a 16 ounce bottle will cover approximately 31 square feet.

A:  Titebond III will bond James Hardie fiber cement board and treated plywood IF the treated plywood is dry, does not contain any borax AND it can be clamped or pressed together without any gaps. Since this is usually never the case for these two substrates, a better method is to use Titebond Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive to bond these two substrates together. Use of a water-based construction adhesive will be limited to only bonding dry treated plywood.
