5/4 was the perfect thickness for my kitchen counter top backsplash! Nice and straight and not to many knots in the wood

How much can I say about a piece of lumber? It's made of wood, as expected, but I neither know nor care about the variety - I'm using it to make a compost screen. It was pretty straight, and not too knotty, I have no complaints.

Boards in good condition, straight and with few knots snd defects.

The boards I picked were fine. The problem was it took 30 minutes and significant effort to find boards that were no warped, cracked, excessively knotty or all of the above. It’s HD buying power, why can’t they send those bad boards back to the mill for a credit? Why do customers have to sort through complete garbage?

I needed this product right away for a project and there were only two pieces available. Both pieces were slightly warped and had a few splits and very knotty. This is so often the situation I find when trying to purchase wood at HD. I am going back to local lumber yards, pay more but get what is needed and in much better condition

While more expensive than common 2x4 studs, I like using 5/4" stock for framing base cabinets and bar tops. Also build corn hole sets with 5/4"x4" stock and 1/2" plywood. More sturdy than 3/4" stock and lighter than using 2X stock.

Wrapped 24 hours after I got it home. This after sorting through dozens at store to find a straight one. You need to speak with your supplier and institute QC at each store. I.e. moisture testing, pull sample boards from shipment and inspect for warping and defects.

Needed to be selective in picking 1 1/8 X 4 framing pieces from store inventory. 4.X 8 X 24/32 plywood was unavailable during first visit to store, Needed to return to make purchase. Store personnel did a good job making cuts in plywood.
