I tried the square head drive flat head screws in my bathroom remodel and found them to be terrible to work with, square screw drivers kept kept wearing out. Then I switched to the Backer-on screws, with star drive T-25 bit. They were far superior. I was able to set the screws flush to the boards everytime. Big time saver using the Backer-On screws. Highly recommend them!

Screws will work as well as the operator allows them. These are for cement board only. You can sync them deep pretty quick so these are a major no-go for drywall as it rips up the board.

They work as stated. You are good to go with these for backer board.
