Awful product! Super flimsy, thin and cheaply made!! Waste of money. Can’t support any kind of ceiling lighting or air venting

Hi David, thanks for sharing your thoughts on Ceilume's Statford ceiling tiles. It sounds like you're surprised at how thin the Stratford ceiling tiles are. The HomeDepot.com listing says "Ceilume Stratford tiles are made from a very thin sheet of vinyl that is only 0.013 inch thick, the thickness of a business card". While the thin tiles are flexible when handled, they're certainly not flimsy. They're made from a durable vinyl which ASTM testing has proven be "an order of magnitude" more durable than mineral fiber tiles. It's important to note that the International Building Code requres that all lights (even canless LED light fixtures), HVAC registers, speakers, fans, etc must be supported by the ceiling grid or the structure above. Ceiling tiles should not be used as the sole support of a light. Your local Home Depot store has light support brackets to make your installation safe for occupants and code compliant. When you factor in that the tiles are Class A fire rated, GreenGuard Gold Certified for indoor air quality, don't harbor mold or mildew, and won't sag, we believe that they're a bargain. As the years pass, we hope that your new ceiling grows on you and you come to love Ceilume's Stratford as much as we do. Thanks for giving them a place in your home. Ceilume

Hi Blue, thanks for sharing your thoughts on Ceilume's Stratford ceiling tiles. It sounds as though you were surprised to discover that Ceilume's Stratford tiles are very thin even though we included "Feather-Light" in the product name, the first bullet point of our listing states ``Vinyl panel is surprisingly thin but amazingly strong", and our product description gives the exact thickness of the Stratford ceiling tiles; "only 0.013 in. thick, about the thickness of a business card". Happily, the Stratford ceiling tiles are not made from "cheap plastic"; they're made from a rigid vinyl which is not only one of the most commonly used construction materials, it's one of the strongest. ASTM testing has shown that Ceilume ceiling tiles are "an order of magnitude" more durable than mineral fiber tiles. What really concerns us is your comment that the Stratford ceiling tiles are hard to cut. The Stratford cuts easily with regular scissors and requires no other tools for installation. It seems odd that our vinyl tiles could be "beyond paper thin" and also be "hard to cut". Please give Ceilume a call at 800-577-0654 to help us understand your installation issues. We look forward to speaking with you. Ceilume

    This stuff is garbage
I don't know how anybody could give this junk above a 1 star. It's not east to install, it's flimsy, it's impossible to install with a vent in the middle, it sags even under regular ceiling tiles. About 5 contractors all say avoid the stuff. It's plastic. It looks like plastic. It acts like plastic. It's cheap like plastic. The sales video's make me sick, talking about how strong it is. I will NEVER EVER advise anybody to buy this crap.

Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your candid review of Ceilume's Stratford ceiling tiles. It's important to note that the International Building Code requires that all lights, HVAC grilles, speakers, etc must be supported by the ceiling grid and not the ceiling tiles. With the code requirements in mind, strength is not judged by how much weight a ceiling tile can support, but how resistant a ceiling tile is to damage during handling and installation. And this is where Ceilume's rigid vinyl tiles shine; they're flexible when handled but very hard to break, they don't shed fibers or dust, and are easily cleanable in the event that they get dirty. Old school mineral fiber tiles don't check any of those boxes. Speaking of old ceiling tiles, it sounds like you were placing your old ceiling tiles on top of the Stratford. Ceilume does not recommend placing anything on top of the tiles except Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation. We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the ceiling tiles and hope that you've found a suitable ceiling product for your project. Ceilume

      Nice look, poor quality
Great look, easy to clean, and easy to cut. Product is very thin and flimsy. The ceiling looks very nice but not what i expected i was getting for the price. Definitely cheaper than the fiber panels, but i feel the cost of these panels are overpriced for what they are.

Hi Corie, we're sorry to hear that you were surprised that the tiles were so thin. We put "Feather-Light" right in the product name, our listing states that they're .013" of an inch thick, and also mentions that they're "about the thickness of a business card". While they are thin, they're certainly not flimsy. Since they're made from a rigid vinyl material, they're quite durable despite their light weight. ASTM testing shows them to be "an order of magnitude more durable then mineral fiber ceiling tiles". All Ceilume ceiling tiles are made in the United States and are Class A fire rated, GreenGuard Gold certified for Indoor Air Quality, and are impervious to moisture. Considering all of that, we think they're a bargain and appreciate that you gave them a try in your home. Ceilume

We are still in the process of hanging the ceiling tiles, we ordered a quantity of 210 tiles, size 2x2 and at least 40 (so far) of the tiles have some kind of ripple defect in them. We will be returning the defected tiles once we sort through and hang the remaining tiles. It is very frustrating.

These tiles are shockingly light and thin. I cut them with a scissors. I laid the old standard ceiling tiles on top of these new tiles for additional stability. Easy to install since they have some “flex”. They look great.

This drop ceiling tile adds a lot of richness to a room or basement and good character. However, it is made of thin plastic so it doesn't provide insulation or sound barrier and it is a bit more pricey. I would recommend for the aesthetics alone.

Love completely updated my basement bathroom. Very very light weight and easy to install. Make sure you order the covers for the grid covers, you'll thank me.

          Over priced Cheap material
This product is paper thin. It’s plastic therefore no noise barrier, not worth the money! You can probably buy this in a China website for a quarter of the price.

Hi Malex, we're sorry to hear that you were surprised by the thin nature of the Stratford ceiling tiles. We put "Feather-Light" right in the product name, our listing states that they're .013" of an inch thick, and also mentions that they're "about the thickness of a business card". The Stratford has an NRC of .25 by itself and .50 with the Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation. It's simple to install and looks great as well. Unfortunately, being feather-lite, it cannot support any weight. So if you are looking to get recessed lights, then there has to be alternate arrangements.

Hi Atish, thanks for the kind words. We're thrilled to hear that you think the tiles are simple to install and look great. You're 100% correct that Ceilume ceiling tiles can't support the weight of a light. The International Building Code requires that all lights, speakers, HVAC grilles, etc must be supported by the ceiling grid or the structure above. Ceiling tiles should never be used to support any of those items. The good folks at you local Home Depot store have a variety of can light housings and LED light supports to keep your ceiling code compliant and looking good. If you're planning to install LED puck lights, please reach out to Ceilume at 877-492-5605 to get tips on how to properly install that style of light with the Stratford ceiling tile. Ceilume

A beautiful product. So glad I opted for the black ceiling tiles. I’ve had so many compliments on the new look. Because of the design of the tiles, they were also strong enough to support the newer light wafers!

            Too lightweight.
Lovely to look at but so thin and lightweight that I believe a breeze would blow them out of place. If I were putting them very high up where they could not be touched then perhaps they would have worked. Very disappointed. Ending up going with traditional acoustical tiles.

Hi JJ, sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the weight of the Stratford Ceiling Tiles. We understand that they're lightweight; in fact we put Feather-Light right in the product name. We also provide the dimensions and weight of the tiles in our product information. Happily, the Stratford tiles sit great in a grid despite their light weight and breeze is seldom a factor. But since all ceiling tiles can move depending on the amount of airflow they might be subjected to, HomeDepot.com has several different ceiling clips that will prevent the tiles from blowing out of the grid. Thanks for giving them a try in your home. Ceilume
