Hi David, thanks for sharing your thoughts on Ceilume's Statford ceiling tiles. It sounds like you're surprised at how thin the Stratford ceiling tiles are. The HomeDepot.com listing says "Ceilume Stratford tiles are made from a very thin sheet of vinyl that is only 0.013 inch thick, the thickness of a business card". While the thin tiles are flexible when handled, they're certainly not flimsy. They're made from a durable vinyl which ASTM testing has proven be "an order of magnitude" more durable than mineral fiber tiles. It's important to note that the International Building Code requres that all lights (even canless LED light fixtures), HVAC registers, speakers, fans, etc must be supported by the ceiling grid or the structure above. Ceiling tiles should not be used as the sole support of a light. Your local Home Depot store has light support brackets to make your installation safe for occupants and code compliant. When you factor in that the tiles are Class A fire rated, GreenGuard Gold Certified for indoor air quality, don't harbor mold or mildew, and won't sag, we believe that they're a bargain. As the years pass, we hope that your new ceiling grows on you and you come to love Ceilume's Stratford as much as we do. Thanks for giving them a place in your home.
