Hey there - thanks for taking the time to reach out. If you purchase a filter from our parts page, it's genuine. If you purchase from an authorized dealer, like Home Depot, they will be genuine too. We have no reason to doubt that an authorized dealer would have anything other than genuine parts in their store. If you purchase from a 3rd party, that's where it gets fuzzy. If you purchase from Home Depot and have issues with the filter, we recommend contacting our HD.com customer service department at 1-800-430-3376 any day between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m. EST or call your local store. The XWFE filter is embedded with Leak-Detecting Sensing Technology. This innovation enables the refrigerator to shut the water valve down if a leak is detected at the filter. The RFID chip will also communicate filter status to the refrigerator controls. This filter is certified to reduce chlorine-resistant cysts, lead, select pharmaceuticals and 50 other impurities that may be present in your water. Additional information can be found by searching online for a support article titled: "XWFE Performance Data Sheet". We only recommend the use of genuine GE Appliances water filters as they have been tested and are certified to NSF/ANSI Drinking Water Treatment standards and will not damage the filtration system on your refrigerator. You do have the option to use a bypass filter, which we will send to you at no charge. Please locate the complete model and serial number of your refrigerator and call 1-800-432-2737 to request the bypass filter with the understanding that the water to your icemaker and water dispenser will no longer be filtered.
