I replaced a Genie excellerator with this as the HP was the same and both screw drive. I have had a lot of problems with the cheap plastic parts and general operation. It was not a pleasure to install, which my son and I did ourselves, and I have had to disassemble it three times due to malfunctions not related to installation. There are plastic clips that hold in the screw for the screw drive that are cheap and keep breaking. Each time a clip breaks the carriage binds up, offsetting the screw and then the whole thing is a crooked mess that causes you to disassemble in order to move the carriage, replace the clip, and reset the system, as non of those things can be done in place. I am trying to find a way to return it but Genie doesn't want you to.

I purchased two of these units. I had 1 garage with an existing opner and one without. Installation was easy. I was able to install both in just a few hours myself. So far they are opperating without any issues. Remote range is about the same as the craftsman unit I removed. I do like the wall units controls. You can use the opener light as a garage light independent of the opener itself. You dont have to raise the door or close it to have the light come on. And the open/ close button is so big and back-lit you cant miss it and you can lock out the switch easily so you dont accidentally open the door or close it.

Well I installed this in November 2020. It worked ok for a few days then started not going up or down. But usually it would work after a few tries. My son who installed it says take it back, but I wanted to work with it so I greased the wheels and hinges to make it smooth. It worked again for awhile then started stopping again. I tolerated it for a bit. Now it is April and it is totally unreliable. Trying to get support from the is painful, no chat working sent email no response then finally waited 40 min on the phone to speak to a young lady. The sweet little young lady says that the flashing red light means my door is out of balance and that every door needs to be balanced before you can install the opener. The previous opener was there for 20 years and the only reason I bought a new one is because i had no clickers and it would cost $100 for clickers so I felt after 20 years for $200 I should put in a new opener. THe previous one never failed, never needed service. Now to make this piece of crap work I need to call my garage door people and pay $200 for a service call and they will ask me why I was so stupid to buy this poor product. My recommendation, dont buy this.

Genie makes excellent door openers and have used them in the past. I also prefer the screw drive over belts. Had this installed by a professional and expect many years of use.

Great product but noisy.

I've had it about a week or so, and it has exceeded my expectations! The installer was fast and efficient, pointed out how poorly the prior one was installed by my home-warranty company and explained why it wasn't working, and VERY politely explained that I had been ripped-off. This garage door opener is PERFECT for my needs; I can start it opening from half a block away, and smoothly just drive right in without having to stop in the driveway to wait for it to finish bringing the door up like the prior "replacement" for my broken opener. It's quiet, it's SMOOTH not jerky when opening the garage door, and I wish I'd just spent the VERY REASONABLE amount of money for it and the installation without having had to go through what I did before with the cheap chain-drive hunk of garbage opener that the installer was kind enough to haul away for me. I honestly can't find a single thing to DIS like about it, other than I wish the light would come on when I walk into the garage like my ORIGINAL Genie screw-drive opener that broke down of simple old age. This particular model doesn't have that feature however it has better range and power and smoothness and several other features like a "vacation lock" that will keep the garage door opener from being "hacked" by a burglar should I need to leave home for an extended period of time. The thing I like the MOST about it, I've already said: I can be half a block away, touch the opener remote, and the door is already open by the time I hit the driveway, I can just smoothly ride on into the garage and not have to wait. I am a deaf man, but my WIFE hears fine and when I go to work late at night once in a while, she tells me that the garage door opening NEVER wakes her, it's so quiet compared to the others we've had in it's place. It was a GOOD BUY, a GREAT deal expense-wise, and I'm VERY glad to have it.

Fairly easy to install and operates well for a 1/2 hp opener. I have a 10' door and ordered this one because it was advertised as having a 10 1/2' rail. It only has an 8 1/2' rail.... extensions only come in 1', you can only use one and they seem a little spendy, so I installed it as is since I rarely need to raise the door all the way. You can raise the door all the way if you disconnect door bracket from the traveller (ladder required) and make sure that the motor assembly is mounted just above the door height. I have only had this installed for a month and it works well, so far.

Setup was quick and easy. It's a screw drive so no belt or chain to have to adjust. I found it at Home Depot on sale so was a great purchase for the price.

A screw drive garage door opener does not work well with low ceiling garages.

Failed in two months making metal grinding noise inside motor spend labor two times not worth at all

The installer couldn’t get the motherboard to work. Now I’m a very unsatisfied customer because the garage opener doesn’t work and I have to wait much longer to get another one! What a hassle!!

Do not know how it works since for the past two weeks I have been waiting on parts from Genie. Their customer service is sub-par. Have had to contact them twice just for the couplers for the screw-drive bar since the opener did not come with the clear bag. I may finally get to put it up after 4 weeks of waiting cause the parts are finally being shipped. Customer Service for Genie is awful.

Ordered, shipment was quick. Assembly was very hard and I am a fair mechanic. The instructions for the track and track extensions are horrible. The whole track assembly looks and feels like tinker toy stuff. I finally got it installed and it worked from the wall pushbutton ok. I then tried one of the remotes. No luck. Tried the second remote and it worked. No problem, I am sure the warrenty will take care of the remote. Filled out the warrenty stuff online. Could not find a s/n. Sent it in. They returned it said I didn’t give the model #. I did. Took a picture of the model # on the box, sent in. Rejected, no sales receipt. Sent in a copy of the VISA receipt. Rejected. After all this, I replied to Genie, Just forget it, next time I’ll buy another brand. Would I recommend Genie Brand? NO.

I'm a life long Genie Screw Drive fan, buying my first one over 30 years ago. I've bought multiple versions of their screw drives over the years. I like the easy of access to the buttons on the outside of the motor. This one is louder than previous versions. The noise is related to what sounds like a loose bearing on the screw drive. My biggest concern now is whether this is a sign that it will fail in the near future.

As a DIY project I was able to handle the replacement of my old Genie with this new one and thought the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. The programming was easy as was pairing it with MyQ. It’s quiet and the only issue we’re having is with the Safe-t-Beams malfunctioning that are not allowing the door to close properly.

I've been running a Genie garage door opener in whatever house I lived in for over 40 years. They last for a very long time, usually die from abuse, rather than age. This new one just works. Nothing fancy, you push the button and the door changes state. Grumble? The new one has different mounting from the old one, so none of the peripheral stuff carried forward, it all had to be removed and replaced. Good? the remote training button is much more accessible.
