The Hampton Bay Wellton 54 in LED Brushed Nickel DC Motor Ceiling Fan with Light is a great addition or replacement ceiling fan. The Brushed nickel, frosted globes, and grey/brown fan blades all accent one another in a really cohesive look. This is a 5 blade fan and has 3 standard lights. The kit includes 3 soft white LED bulbs but we elected to use Daylight Bulbs instead as we like them better. Installation in very simple. Note that your ceiling mount will need to be able to support up to 35 lbs per the manufacturers recommendation. Be sure to turn off the power before you begin. The fan blades are this quick connect style and do not have to be screwed down onto the arms. This makes for easy installation and also allows for you to remove a blade without any tools. The fan motor is supper quiet and powerful. I feel that we have double the circulation now when compared to our older Westinghouse ceiling fan that this Hampton Bay replaced. One odd thing that I have notices (and the reason for the good Quality rating) was that when you turn on the ceiling fan, it spins slightly forwards then backwards a couple of times before it begins to continually rotate. It also takes a little longer than expected to reach the max revolutions when on High. I guess time will tell if this is a flaw or part of the design of the DC motor. One thought was that it could be from the electrical filter that is set into the ceiling base as this is the first fan I have installed that required you to wire in a filter. Overall we are very pleased with this ceiling fan. The updated look is much more in line with the styling in our home and looks seamless.

The fan is great looking, well made and well constructed. I was impressed by the way it was packaged and some items were actually double wrapped to insure they would not get damaged in shipping. The instructions were spot on just make sure you read them all. I really like the way the fan blades connected to the blade arms as they just snap in place. I initially installed the fan using the standard ceiling mounting but because there is some wobble in the fan when it spins and no directions for correcting (is also the reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars) I'm going to remount up close to the ceiling. Instruction booklet covers both types of installation. Lastly, the fan blades can be turned to either a solid brown finish or a brown wood grain finish.

Nice, traditional fan with pull chains that operates from a wall switch rather than a remote. It was hard to find one without a remote, so I was really thankful for this option. I also love the larger size and the three lights give plenty of light for our large room. It is completely quiet and doesn't shake when on a high speed either.

Another Dud Of A Fan
This is the 4th fan I have now tried from Hampton Bay and will be immediately returning to HD. Install was pretty simple as is a lot of these fans, but the problem with these DC fans is the motor. I have already returned another model that would not go out of calibration phase, nor would get to full speed. This one functioned properly but the whining/humming noise from the motor was completely unbearable, even at low speeds. Even with white noise in the room, I could hear the high pitched noise. I bought this one for the 60” blade span and semi-decent reviews for moving air, but unfortunately this one is going back. Will be reverting to older style models that simply work - less is more sometimes. I would stay avoid this one at all costs.

    Motor Doesn't Work Out of the Box
    Followed the instructions perfectly and once it was all buttoned up per the instructions I turn the power on...switch on...I hear a high pitch noise and the blades slightly rotate then nothing. I switched the lines (per troubleshooting chart as I was wiring it up for (2) switches)...exact same thing.

      Fan motor stopped working
      Fan motor stopped working and makes a horrible grinding noise. Tried contacting customer service and they told me they couldn't do anything and wouldn't provide a email to contact them another way.

        An initial purchase gave us a fan with a motor that was defective from the factory. I had to pay an electrician to figure this out. I believe I should have a least received a 50% discount on the replacement to cover some of that cost. I installed the replacement that Home Depot sent me and it works perfectly. I am happy with the item, especially because it actually works.

        Finally got around to getting a new fan for our bedroom. It worked great at first. But after less than a week of use only at night time for a few hours a night it has stopped working. Lights still work fine but the fan itself is dead

          Annoying rattling
          The blades are making noise when the fan runs on high. Since it is a quick release connection there is no way to tighten the blade attachment. There is also a small metal rattle form somewhere in the fan. I completely dissembled the fan just to verify everything was tight and did not hear anything loose inside. The motor is DC so it is super quiet but it doesn't seem as fast as the AC fan I just replaced. Also there is a slight pause when flipping the switch on before the motor starts moving.

            We bought this fan as we needed one with longer blades. The first week or two it was nice. Then it started giving of like a ticking noise, keeping me awake. Will be returning.

              Motor dies often
              I really liked this fan when we first got it. However, the motor died after about a year of purchase. We contacted Home Depot and Hampton Bay, which eventually sent us a new motor to install. That new motor lasted about a year and just broke once again. Disappointed because the fan does a solid job when it works, but having to replace the motor for a third time when it's hung from a 30 foot ceiling is not worth it.
