Bought this box online and was surprised by the heavy duty construction, for the money it's great deal!!!

Despite its heavy weight and sturdy construction, this chest really can only store a small volume of materials. Probably ideal only for passports, money, some documents, jewelry or a stash of some sort, and certainly not all of those items together at once. The volume is quite small. That being said, it is nice to have disaster-resistent storage for items that matter most. If you're looking to store lots of documents or heirlooms, look elsewhere for a larger chest. Another thing to keep in mind, this is a chest, and not a safe. Disaster resistance is the goal here, not security. The chest is heavy but certainly light enough to be carried away at a moment's notice. The lock and key mechanism, while strong, would probably not hold out too long against someone determined to get inside. For what it's designed for it's (presumably) very good.

Chest is better than expected! Heavy weight and construction, perfect for my needs to keep important documents safe & secure! Great price for great product.

If you are looking for a place to keep your important documents & items (passports, birth certificates, etc) safe in the event of a fire or flood, this is an excellent product. It is very solid and well built. The latches pull the lid down against the gasket quite firmly. Its quite portable (20lbs, but has a very nice carry handle) and key lockable. Its hard for me to say how hard it would be to pick this lock, but I would imagine not very hard for a trained individual. That said, it will keep the kids out. All of that said, if you are looking for a safe to protect items from theft as well, this is not the right choice. Actually, unless this chest is very well hidden, I think its just asking to be taken. I wish that it had a strong hook welded onto it where a steel cable could be attached and then bolted to a stud or tied around an immovable object.

This little safe is good for storing sensitive materials or valuables from being taken, although its small enough that everything can be taken. Because it is fire and water resistant it will be most useful locked in another compartment or safe or chest where it cannot be picked up and walked away with, in which case you are better off throwing your valuables in the woods, you may actually find some later on. As far as construction and operation goes it seems pretty solid and easy to open and close. What else does it do? It's a teeny box that keeps out fire and water for a while.

This storage chest, made by Honeywell, is fire and water proof. It replaces my large clunky storage chest. It easily holds all my important documents. I have each one in a standard #10 size envelope and they store upright for easy retrieval. The chest measures approximately 9 inches by 12 inches. It has two latches and a keyed entry. It also has a handle which I really appreciate. Nice, solid storage chest.

First let me say, this is one very heavy safe. It's a great size and shape to fit easily in the corner of the closet or in a the back of a cabinet. It has a convenient handle so you can move it around easily. In the event you must leave quickly, you can just grab it and go. The safe is easy to open and seals very well when closed and latched. It comes with two keys. Everyone needs a safe in the house and this one is a great choice.

This unit is the best of the BEST. Portable and solid I placed this in a bathtub for an hour submerged and completely dry. Ergonomic handle makes this unit easy to carry. well line and seals tight yet it doesn't take brute force to close or open latches keys are a bit of a tight fit but loosen up after just a bit of use, make sure the key is in all the way.

The security chest is very well made and heavier than it looks (19 lbs) with 2 latches and 2 keys. It does feel safe knowing my valuable papers will stay safe and dry in the event of a fire or water emergency. The interior measures 9 5/8" x 6" x 3 7/8" deep. The right size for most important papers, etc. Be sure and read the instructions, they are well written and tell you how to open the latches and more info, such as - why to keep it flat, how the 7 year warranty works, keys are replaceable. They claim it floats too.

If you're looking for water and fire protection for your most valuable documents or similar items, then this is the chest for you. I'm a writer. I am going to use this case to make back up CDs of all my works and store them in my office. In the unfortunate event of a fire and/or water damage to the building, this chest will keep a copy of my irreplaceable document CDs safe from harm. While I wouldn't say this is the ideal method of protecting yourself against THEFT (After all, it has a carry handle provided... for a thief, that's a carry AWAY handle), I am thrilled to have it to protect against what it is designed for - Fire and water damage. Honeywell has made a HEAVY and heavy duty protection chest that should last for decades. To give you an idea of interior size, you can place a standard #10 envelope upright in it. CDs/DVDs in their cases lay flat in the bottom. Perfect for media protection, as this box is designed to keep contents dry even when submerged in three feet of water for 24 hours. For what I need - Media Storage and protection - this box works perfectly.

Although you would hope you never would have to see if this product really works..by the feel and looks of the chest it is a well made product. It has substantial weight and heft to it. It is large enough to get all of my important papers inside including passports and birth certificates.The key lock works smoothly and along with the closure snaps makes it feel very secure.

We got this box for valuables, and love it. It comes with two keys, is heavy, small enough to "hide", but large enough for papers, jewelry, keys, coins, and other items. It locks easily and very securely. You could probably keep it anywhere - it is heavy, but could be tucked away in a closet or elsewhere, even in a car trunk. I think a very small gun might fit in it - it holds a 8 1/2 x 11 paper with a slight bend. It's not intended to be theft-proof, but is for fire safely, but if you hid it well, it might benefit you in the event of a break-in.

The Honeywell Fire/Water Safe Chest is a nice addition to my house to secure my valuables. It is about 12" wide, 9.5" deep and 7" tall. The inside will accommodate storage of documents in standard #10 envelopes. The inside is about 6" deep, 9" wide and 4" high. It has 2 compression latches to securely seal the safe as well as a key lock with 2 keys included. It is a nice size to store USB drives and other digital media for safe keeping or important paper documents. It weighs about 20 pounds and is quite durable. I hope I don't ever have an event to test the fire and water claims but good to know my valuables are protected if something happens.

Very solid, heavy and durable safe. Perfect for house or traveling when you need a safe, secure place to store smaller items. Holds a standard letter size envelope to give you an idea. I store my passport, cash, and small valuable jewelery in it. Really quite heavy for its size. Has two heavy duty plastic latches to create a tight seal against flooding. Key entry comes with two keys. Good value for a small, portable safe. I would like to see a metal ring attached to the side or back, where I could then secure the safe with a chain and padlock so someone doesn't steal the safe.

This molded fire/water chest is the perfect size for anyone needing a small place for important documents. Not to heavy and small enough to be stored anywhere in your home. Either a drawer, a cabinet, under the bed. Could easily grab in the case there were to be an emergency and needed it. Great for easy access, comes with 2 keys. There are 2 latches that must be latched and secured before you are able to lock it up. Sturdy build and high quality build.

Surprisingly hefty for its size, this little black box has thick multi-layered insulated walls just like the professional safes in banks, but ( of course) not that heavy. That's how it got its fire rating. We got this to protect original old photographs and small papers. I like the keyed operation as opposed to combination locks, but that is a personal choice. I would prefer heavier metal latches instead of these plastic ones. Although modern plastics are quite durable, and the all-important latching mechanism IS metal, it just seems that plastic latches were a design compromise. The rubber seal and interior materials all seem VERY sturdy, and that's what's mainly needed in a small box like this to protect against moisture in case of flooding. We are quite satisfied and feel confident it will protect our precious baby pictures. Good price and value.
