My new fun toy! Putting the grill together is a 2 person job because of the bulkiness. I liked that the only tool needed is a phillips screwdriver. That made assembly easy. Now for the good part. The grilling area is massive and offers plenty of room to grill/smoke multiple things at once. I never thought in a million years that I would like my grill to be a smart grill. Once you download the app on your phone, there is a video tutorial on how to operate the unit. The controller and app make using the grill so easy. 2 probes are included so there is no need to open the cover when smoking meats in order to temp the meat. The grill has a great stay warm feature that slows down the processes when the meat his the selected temp. The hopper is very large and holds lot of pellets. I have only had the grill for a couple weeks but have cooked on it almost every night with many different foods from pizza to pork butt. This grill is a great upgrade to my old grill/smoker. Love it...

I have been wanting to try a pellet smoker/grill for some time now. I was not all that impressed with the famous-named pellet grills that everyone wants - their build quality was much less than I expected. Enter Nexgrill’s Oakford pellet grills. Wow. What a difference in build quality! Everything is built with heavy gauge, highly enameled metal. Assembly was tight and accurate and the layout of surfaces excellent. Grill grates are not wire but cast, powder coated and substantial grates that even fit in the dishwasher. What is really great is all the add-ons that you have to purchase for that other popular brand are already on this grill! The Bluetooth-activated wifi app is brilliant as well with access to settings and the two included meat temp probes. The grill operates as a smoker, a grill and a warmer. For the grill, it gets to a respectable 550 degrees. As a smoker, you can set programs up to 24 hours of cooking time and the grill regulates by the probes or internal temperature.

I’m more of a griller than a smoker but I’ve been wanting to get into smoking for a while and my old gas grill was getting tired. I got the new NexGrill Oakford 580 - the smallest one on the 3 member Oakford family and so far I’m super happy with it - because it does both! Here are a few pros and cons. Pros. Nice looking grill. Really sturdy and well-built. Smooth rolling wheels. Wifi control paired to my iPhone works awesome to see and adjust temp. I prefer to set my own temps but the 3 presets are a nice to have. Nice seals all the way around. Fires up within 5 minutes of hitting “play” and temp starts building. Big Indicator numbers on the front are easy to read and temp also adjusts well with the knob on the control board. It gets to 475 in around 5 mins. Guessing it may take a little longer on the larger grills. Goes together pretty easily and it’s nice that all the fasteners Are the same length. Sturdy side try is super convenient A few cons just because I’m critical of most things… There is no slope to the pellet release door so I wound up having to use a wooden spoon stick to get the pellets out. Did that twice before finally just removing the pellet “grill/protector(?)” now I can use my hand. It’s a little difficult to get excess pellets out of the auger but it is what it is. Also not enough slope to the auger, so I found once or twice a void was created over the auger even though there were pellets in the hopper. As I was grilling, and not smoking, this was not a big deal. Im on the shorter side (5’5) and once burned (not terribly) my wrist as I was opening the lid all the way up with the handle. Now that I’m aware, it’s not a big problem. One-man assembly of the legs was a little tricky and had me in some compromising positions but had the whole thing assembled in just over an hour. I’ve mostly had the top rack off because there’s not enough room to get under it and flip a burger. Maybe this is better on the larger units but the 580 is a little tight for 2 levels of rack for general grilling. Probe read about 10* high No cover is available yet ( probably because it’s new) and I’d like to get a few extra probes ( it can take 4) but can’t seem to find them available anywhere. Over all really happy and I’d buy it again. Great product.

One of the things I noticed when researching pellet smokers is that buyers often complain about shipping damage and ill-fitting parts. Neither is an issue with this pellet smoker. It is well packed for shipping and arrived at my home in pristine condition. The assembly is a bit of a chore but everything fits perfectly and is made of stout materials. I took off one star for a couple of operational concerns. It takes a long time and multiple activation of the primer to get pellets into the burn cup. It seems like this unit could have been programmed to have the auger run faster for priming or emptying. The manual advises to not store pellets in the hopper or auger is you line in an area of high humidity. That's where I live! So when I emptied the hopper (great to have a trap door) I was disappointed at how long it took multiple activations of the primer feature to empty the auger. I used my shop vac to remove pellets from both ends of the auger and still about 10-15 minutes trying to empty it. But the good stuff: It ignites easily once it finally primes. It got to 400 degrees in less than 15 minutes and kept the temperature within 15-20 degrees. It rolls and moves easily, is built like a tank and should give me years of use. I just wish it loaded and unloaded more quickly.

What a great smoker from a company that never made pellet grills until now that is. Where to start, the quality of the grill itself is very good and it is very heavy. It comes with 2 meat probes so that you can monitor 2 different meats at the same time and if you want to purchase more meat probes this grill has 4 ports and the number 1 port has the ability to set the temperature that you want the item to be cooked to and when it hits that temperature it cuts the temperature down and keeps the item warm for 10 minutes. It comes with heavy duty porcelain cooking grates, and the access door is double insulated and very heavy. I have not used the app to control the grill by a smart phone as I do not own one but that is a great feature to have. All and all for the price point this grill offers many bonus things such as hooks on the end of the shelf to hang your cooking tools and also has a bottom shelf as well as a front shelf that you can fold down when not in use. The warranty is also excellent firebox and all components 5 years, Electrical components 3 years, and cooking grates 3 years. I have not cooked on it yet but did do the initial burn in a with temp set at 400 degrees and the highest it went was 420 degrees without a flaw. I do not see how with all the features you can go wrong with the price. Has a viewing window to check pellets it also has great wheels with caster locks on the 2 smaller wheels.

The Nexgrill Oakford 580 Wifi Pellet Grill Smoker in Black is a great little smoker. It arrived very well packaged and the only tool needed for assembly is a Phillips head screwdriver. It has two large rubber coated wheels and two small skate type wheels. There is a side shelf that has 3 hooks for utensils and mitts. The temperature probe allows you to reach your desired internal temperature and keep it steady if you are away. There’s an app for your smart phone and you can operate from anywhere. This is a solid smoker and should last for years.

I have owned and had experience with all types of smokers. The new Nexgrill Oakford 580 has great features and plenty of power for its size. To start, this smoker is heavy duty. It is constructed of heavy gage steel with an excellent powder coat finish. The grates are all porcelain enamel coated for longevity. The burner cover and drip pan are heavy duty and appear to be made of stainless steel. The pellet bin will hold up to 22 lbs of pellets giving plenty of time to slow smoke the largest cuts of meat. The smoker came "semi-assembled" compared to others I have put together. It was fairly easy to assemble taking me about 1.5 hours total. The instruction manual provided is good and Nexgrill has a good website for support. . This unit features three, pre-set, automatic "modes" including smoke, grill and warm. You can also set any temperature you prefer manually. It has a timer that can be set as needed. One unique capacity it has is the ability to work with up to four meat probes at once; giving great versatility and flexibility for cooking multiple items. It has Bluetooth connectivity that works nicely with my Samsung, Android phone using the free Nexgrill app. It is easily downloaded and installed. Since a picture is worth a thousand words I have provided a 5 minute video to give an up close look at the grill with many more details.

There is no doubt you will feel like you received your value’s worth, while you’re simply constructing your NexGrill. Before you even plug in the grill, load the pellets and program your next meal with the Wi-Fi enabled next generation grill, you will feel like the money you spent on the Oakford 580 investment is going to pay dividend in no time. The large capacity hopper is large enough to get you through many Sunday outings with the grill, and the rear access to the box allows easy change out for different smoke flavors. Also allows you to view the estimated hours of fuel remaining in the hopper depending on your cooking method. So between the advanced hopper and the Wi-Fi enabled controller, you have control over your fuel through the cooking process and you have bult-in precise temperature control, which can be used to adjust temperature, timer and cooking options from the controller on the grill or on your Smartphone – think about that for a moment. It has an exterior grease capture system so you can swap out the grease bucket at ANY time. The little things like the coating on the firebox that will prevent rusting and the porcelain-coated easy-to-clean cooking grates are great to have in a grill, but then to get a temperature probe that plugs directly into your controller box to provide controlled cooking – wow. Looking forward to smoking more means with this grill.

I have never owned a smoker before and this smoker has me feeling like a true pro. The food that's come out so far as been absolutely amazing and full of flavor. Setup was simple and actually managed to do it by myself. Though some parts were a bit awkward, it is feasible. For starters the instructions want you to place the unit on its side, however the grease bucket hook/shoot prevents you from laying it in the manner that it's requesting. Our grill got delivered on a pallet, so I was actually able to use the space between the pallet boards to lay the unit on its side, while allowing the hook to fall into the space between the boards. If it wasn't for the pallet, I would recommend using some wood to raise the unit while providing clearance for the grease hook. Other than that eveything was straight forward and the instructions provided clear and consise instructions. Awesome quality soft rubber wheels on the unit which allow for easy maneuvering. The brakes work great as well. Upon first start up, follow the instructions provided, prime the unit and wait until you hear a noticeable "plink" sound when priming to let you know the pellets made it to the burner. I've never used a smoker before so didn't really know what sound to expect. Once you hear it, you will definitely know (took about 4 primes). Overall the unit is quiet, you barely hear the blower fan and there's a light hum every once in a while when the feeder loads in more pellets. I love the foldable shelf as I can extended it to have more counterspace when beginning and ending the cook, but I can fold the shelf down during the cook to have easier access to the smoker. When closing the lid, it has a very solid and pleasant thud. I will say though that the handle is hard to reach with the lid open. I'm 5'10" tall and essentially have to go to the side of the unit to reach the handle and close the lid as you have to reach up and over the lid to reach the handle (the bottom lip of the lid makes contact with my forearm when trying to reach for the handle). The handle would either need to be placed lower on the lid or have some type of downward curvature to fix this. Digital cluster is easy to see even in direct sunlight. Buttons have a nice click and feedback to them ensuring you get confirmation for your button press. Probe seems to be accurate. Tested it out by using a digital meat thermometer and the built in one. Both read approximately the same temperature. Includes grease buckets and 2 liners. Cleaning the grates was easy as everything just slid right out and was able to wash it in the sink. The tricky part is getting the main drip pan out as it's slightly wider than the opening. The best approach is to try to pivot the pan in a way that the right side (the exit side) falls down into the lower void, and then pivot the whole pan to allow the left side to come out first, then pull the whole pan out. I put a 20lb bag of pellets into the hopper and it filled it about 3/4 of the way. The viewing window is awesome for seeing how many pellets you have left. I will say that the emptying of the pellets is extremely disappointing. The clean out door is an awkward spot making it difficult to easily empty the pellets. The clean out hole is too close to the inside of the unit, which prevents you from easily lining up a bucket under the hole, as the bucket will hit the lower shelf keeping it off center. To empty the hopper I have to hold the bucket up near the hole which is a bit awkward as well as heavy. I would have liked to have seen either the clean out hole be moved farther out to allow for a bucket to sit directly under the hole or there be some kind of funnel/guide to direct the pellets to a better location. When opening the clean out door, nothing came out until I used a long grill tool to poke the clean out hole from the bottom to essentially release the pellets and allow them to fall. Seems as the pellets wedge themselves into the opening and won't fall freely until disturbed. It is also difficult to get the last few remaining pellets out easily as the auger protection screen is in the way (should of been hinged) and the area around the clean out door is flat, not giving the pellets the angle needed to completly fall out. I was having issues with the app on android, updated the app and even tried reinstalling with no success. The app kept constantly crashing, flickering and just not responding. The times it didn't crash, the app would not connect to the smoker. Tried to use my android tablet and the Nexgrill app is not even available for Android tablets. Ended up using my work iPhone and actually had no problems. Once everything is connected you have access to temp monitoring and control which is awesome. Built in cord storage on the rear is nice and keeps the cable out of the way when not in use. Overall the smoker makes great food and works for cooking amazing food. The issues with the app is something that can hopefully be fixed in the future with an update. The only thing that is truly a hassle is the emptying/changing of the pellets.

I have used this brand of grills for several years now and have loved every one of them. At initial burn off this oakford 580 did good. It held temp between 355 to 405 degrees. I had it set at 400 degrees. The first cook was shish kabobs. Temps would not regulate no matter if I was on smoke or grill or warm. It went from 180 degrees to over 400 degrees. I had to get a defective unit, I know this company builds quality grills. I called customer service and we trouble shot a few things but none worked. I imagine the control board is the culprit for the malfunction.

This is my first smoker grill that I have had, and I wish I gotten this earlier. When I first looked at this grill, I was asking the question so what fuel does it take? Well, I found out that it's fueled by wooden pellets. You'll be surprised at how fast you'll learn how to use the Nexgrill. The assembly instructions are very clear and the only problem that I had was, I needed a second person when connecting the legs to the grill body. My helper held the legs in place while I placed the screws. The material is very heavy metal, and the grates are good quality which will last for some time. Fill your hopper, plug the grill into an outlet and sit back and watch the smoke and heat do their job. The App helps you monitor the electronics of the grill, and it is easy to set the temperatures and monitor your meats. I had a great time learning and cooking on my Nexgrill. Can;t waits until the next time I use it. Oh, by the way clean-up is pretty easy.

The NEXGRILL OAKFORD 580 WIFI PELLET GRILL SMOKER IN BLACK is a Great Pellet Grill. I ordered this grill not knowing anything about a pellet grill and not knowing how to use it. I have a Nexgrill gas grill, and like this brand of grill purchased at Home Depot. The grill requires assembly, which was easy and uncomplicated. One of the legs required a second person to hold the leg while I screwed it into place, otherwise, I assembled by myself using a screwdriver. This heavy-duty grill is expertly crafted weighing over 100 pounds but has wheels and casters to make moving easy. This pellet grill requires household current to power the auger and igniter. This grill is Wi-Fi enabled so you can monitor and control the grill via the NexGrill smart phone app. The owner's guide provides all the information to assemble and operate the pellet grill but does not include information on how to cook. I had to go to YouTube to learn about this pellet grill. The pellet hopper holds 20 pounds of wood pellets and burns 1 to 3 pounds per hour depending how hot the temperature is set. I smoked a 12-pound brisket and used 16 pounds of pellets for a 16-hour cook. The brisket turned out great and was easy to cook. After the grill cooled, I cleaned the grates and grease tray, emptied the grease bucket and vacuumed out the ash, then rolled the grill up next to the house under the porch roof to protect the electronics from rain. I really like the Nexgrill Pellet Grill Smoker and definitely do recommend this excellent Nexgrill product.

I have to admit previously only owning propane gas grills then seeing the Oakford Pellet Grill weighs 200 pounds I was a bit intimidated thinking of having to assemble but wish I knew how to video record because I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process. Wish I had option to share more photo's of assemby and all it's incredible features Entire contents package weighs 200 pounds, cutting the box open from top, pulling out bundles then cutting the front ((Packaging was tight) allowed me to pull out more packaging and slide the large barrel out. Once assembled stands 50" in height, 50" wide and with the front 8" folding tray placed down 22" in depth. All that is required is a philips head screwdriver, I started with a long handle but found short handle was much easier. Actually the heads of the screw are large enough process can begin by placing the A-screw, B-washer & C-washer (used through entire assembly) placing in by hand, tighten a little with screw driver until pieces are in position then use philips screwdriver to go around and tighten. All hardware are packaged together and labeled on the back including the mounting poles & pins for the large wheels (unfortunately did not notice the wheel washers until assembly was completed) I really took my time not to have to repeat the process, parts & pieces are not named but labeled by number & letter in owners manual. Looking for the side tray packaged in a flat box with a number of parts on top of it, I thought it was missing. To begin assembly unit has to be laced on it's side. Installing the 2 first bottom legs was a tight squeeze but everything from there on flowed nicely. I honestly think Nexgrill put allot of time and thought in making this incredible strong durable, wonderfully designed and crafted grill. All of the screw holes are threaded, no trying to line up nuts & bolts. The entire 200 pounds is top notch, strong & durable like no previous grill ever experienced & this is only my opinion in assembly. Then there is all the bells and whistles per say like the fact when not in use your able to wrap the power cord around 2 sturdy brackets built into the back of the unit, the hanging ash bucket equipped with an extra foil bucket liner, the option to fold down the long front tray for easy storage, and oh my goodness and the 4 wheels are really cool. The digital panel is incredibly simplified with power button, precise grilling temperatures allowing cooking temperature up to 550°, set a timer, pause, choose your desired cooking mode. Smoker amount pellets can be viewed in window display, when full max cooking can cook up to 50 hours. One probe is included however has the option to use 3 more all at the same time Summer months who wants to be heating up the kitchen when the Oakford Pellet Grill ables you to Grill, Smoke, Braise & simply keep food warm. Nexgrill comes with a 5 limited year warranty. The option to control your cooking temperatures can be done by installing the nex-fi App and includes recipes I can honestly say of the many years of assembly no-one has put more thought, care and included premium product as the Nexgrill Oakford Pellet Grill

This pellet grill has to be assembled, it was fairly simple and easy to assemble. The pellet bin is fairly large for those long smokes. It has a folding shelf on the front and all terrain tires. It is WiFi enabled thru Bluetooth. Comes with removable grease bucket. 6 in 1 cooking system, grill, bake, smoke, braise, roast and warm up. It has a temperature range of 160 to 550 F. Just wish my area Home Depot carried the pellets in store.

The Oakford 790 pellet grill The grill is built heavy, the stand, wheels, bottom pan, the grilling grates, hopper, and cooking/smoking grill, everything is heavy and sturdy, I am impressed with the quality. It has performed well for everything I have made in it so far and the temperature was maintained very accurately even on a slightly windy day. The flavor of the food made in this grill gives the right amount of smoke, smell, and taste to not over power the meat.

First off this is not a lightweight grill/smoker. It is a very heavy well made grill. I asked two young men to put it together and they did so in a matter of two and one half hours. I watched as they worked and to be honest I was impressed. The whole thing is very good quality and it will be around for a while. The instructions are complete so if you go step by step you will not have a problem. The pellets come in all sorts of flavors and it is easy to add them to the grill. I am going to the store today to buy a pork butt and I can hardly wait to try it out

I have been waiting for a long time for a Pellet Grill. I'm an Egghead and have a charcoal and a gas grill. I guess you could say, I love grilling and experimenting. My friend, swears by the pellet grill and says once you have one you need nothing else. So, I am trying to cook exclusively on it for a while. The installation was pretty simple, except you will need two people when installing the legs. Other than that I went solo. The instructions are pictures only but they do the trick. It was completely assembled in about an hour and ten minutes. Then you have to season it which takes another 30 minutes. Nexgrill has some videos on the app that tell you about the grill and how to season it. I must say Nexgrill has done a good job marketing as well as making this new line of grill easy to learn. I am a fan of Nexgrill. Been using the for years. You will need a 110v grounded receptacle to operate but once it is plugged in it is simple to use. The instructions for this part are comprehensive and the manual covers everything you need to know. It has three cook modes, smoke, warm and grill. Each has an adjustable temp which is easily changed in the app or the read dial on the grill interface. I have had a 20-25 degree variance so far when grilling, which is on the hotter side. I just lower the temp accordingly. On smoking it stays within 10 degrees which is good on any grill. It does the same on my green egg. It comes equipped with one meat probe that I have double checked with a meat thermometer and so far it has been about 10 degrees off. It reads high, so double check on the chicken. Again, I am new to this, so I may be doing something wrong. I purchased hardwood pellets as well as charcoal pellets and both give a nice subtle smoke flavor. I assume that the slower you cook and the longer you cook, will give you more of a smoke flavor. The grates on this Oakford 790 grill are cast iron greatest coated with non stick material. They clean easy. They grill is solidly constructed. Made of thick steel and there is even a gasket around the door to help keep the smoke in. The thing that really impressed me is the quality of the wheels. They are made from roller blade material which gives it a solid durable feel when moving it. I look forward to many years of smoking meat and grilling on this Nexgrill Oakford. My friend is right, I may not ever need to use my other grill again. Thanks Nexgrill!

I’ve been looking for something that could give me the capability of a traditional grill while also allowing me to smoke a nice pork shoulder, rack of ribs, or brisket (should I build the courage to try it), so I figured I’d give this new pellet grill from nexgrill a try. OVERALL: The grill does well while in use. It offers a pretty nice feature set for the price relative to the competition, but it's a bit difficult to clean, and there are a few design features I’d change/add to make it a truly great grill. ASSEMBLY: The Nexgrill was pretty easy to put together. The instruction manual is all pictures, but they draw out what you need to do pretty well and the parts are labeled well. It could be nice to have a partner to help assemble it, but I was able to put it together by myself. The hardest part was putting the legs on since you have to put a screw through from the inside of the grill and reach out to the outside to get the nut on. I had to use my drill as an arm extension of sorts so I could reach around enough to see what I was doing. Everything else was really simple and easy. DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION: Overall, the grill seems pretty sturdy and I really like the look of it. There were a couple parts where the paint job had built up a bit or something, but I don’t think it should cause any issues. The wheels are made of rubber like rollerblades, which should last a while. The grill itself has a pretty nice warranty associated with it, so I’m hopeful that it will last a good while. I do not like the design of the hopper at all. The trap door to drop the pellets out quickly is off to the side and close to the edge of the grill. This means that a) my 5 gallon Home Depot bucket pushed to the edge of the under-grill storage rack misses some of the pellets when they fall out and b) the trap door is not at the bottom of the hopper, so you can’t get ALL of the pellets out without a stick to push them to the door and eventually a vacuum that has a long attachment on it to get through the metal safety grid. The walls of the hopper are not steep enough, and the trap door part is flat. During my smoking session, I did not pay enough attention to the pellets, and a well of sorts developed, so even though I had plenty of pellets in the hopper, the auger ran out of pellets, and the flame went out. The controller then went into over-drive spinning the auger before it realized the flame was out. When I re-lit the grill, it ended up flaming up to 300+ degrees for a spell (to the point where I had to hold the lid open to vent off some heat). If I could, I’d sacrifice a little bit of hopper capacity to have steeper walls that all angle directly into the hopper. The trap door would be underneath the auger, allowing all of the pellets to fall out around the auger easily. I did like the insulated wall of the grill door, which also had a felt seal around the edge to keep the smoke in. After using the grill for the first time that my grease tray ended up warped. I don’t think this will cause an issue with overall operation of the grill, but it is a bit interesting. I have not reached out to Nexgrill about it, but I’d be interested to see if they’re aware of this happening. The other thing I wish this grill had was an easy access to clean out ash from the firebox. To clean the firebox out now, you have to take the grill grates out and remove the grease tray. The manual recommends to use a shop vac to suck out the ash. If the firebox had an access from the bottom of the grill, it would make cleaning so much easier. I do really like the drop down table and side tray. It provides ample room to put plates and things, but also collapses to fit through a door easily. USE: So far, I’ve used the Oakford to smoke a pork shoulder and to cook burgers. Both came out pretty well. The app control for the smoker works great; I didn’t lose connection at any point in my cook. The temperature control (provided pellets were available) had no problems maintaining temperature usually within 5 degrees of my set temperature. There were a few spikes after I had opened the grill, but that is somewhat to be expected. The grease tray does not stretch completely edge to edge of the grill (front to back). I did have a little grease drip down the inside edge of the grill when pulling my pork butt off. Most of the time, it should handle everything without much issue. When cooking burgers, I turned the grill on and went inside to build the burgers. I was ready to grill in about 25 minutes, and the grill had gotten to over 400 degrees by that time. The max temp according to the specs is 550 degrees. I did not use my own thermometer, but the grill on “Hi” setting got to 574 degrees at one point when I was putting the grill through its initial paces to burn off the manufacturing oils and such. I mentioned above in the design section that the hopper can develop a “well” of pellets that causes the auger to run out of fuel. If you do plan to be away from your grill for a while with it on, I recommend making sure the hopper is completely full (and/or having someone at home to check on things every so often). One thing I do wish this grill had from an overall use perspective is a sear zone. In doing some research, searing has not been a strength for pellet grills in the past, but other brands are coming up with ways to make it possible. The warming rack on the grill, in my mind, makes it difficult to use the main grill surface. I will probably not use it most of the time. APP: The app control for the grill itself works really well. The recipes section is pretty lacking in the recipe department, though. I looked for a pork shoulder/Boston Butt recipe and it didn’t find anything. I feel like that’s a pretty basic recipe for a smoker, so I was disappointed in the selection, but that is something that can get better over time. In my mind, they got the important part right, though. You do have to physically press the power button on the grill before the app can take control, and I did have the app quit on me over an over before I realized that was what the issue was (most of the time, the app handles that error more gracefully, not sure why it had the issue this one t ime), but that is a safety thing to make sure you don’t turn your grill on with its cover on and everything. CLEANING: The grill shines when it is smoking and grilling, but when it comes to cleaning, it is really annoying. I live in a humid location, so I do plan to clean out the pellets after every grill/smoke session to avoid having them go bad and/or swell up inside of the auger tube and cause it to get stuck, so this is sore point for me in what is overall a pretty nice grill. The pain of cleaning is the main reason I drop a star. There are two main things I bring up in the Design/Construction section that could make this process so much better. I mentioned the clean-out port for the pellet hopper is in a terrible spot, and I do wish there was a better way to catch the ash from the firebox without having to take the entire grill grates and grease tray out. I also wish that there was an option to continually run the auger for more than 30 seconds at a time and/or speed it up to clean out the feeder tube (I feel like a future software update could enable the longer run of the primer) so that the feeder can be cleaned out faster/easier and prevent potential issues from swelling wood pellets. ACCESSORIES: The grill comes with one temperature probe, but has spots for 3 more. I asked Nexgrill where to get these, but they are “coming soon” and not available yet. I also asked about covers, but they have not released their covers for the Oakford series yet. You might be able to get a generic cover to work, but I’d recommend waiting for the official cover since pellet grills aren’t a symmetrical, generic “grill” shape.

I have a charcoal smoker that I love but I don't always have the time to sit and monitor the fire, especially if you are doing a long smoke of something large. That is where this pellet smoker comes in. Assembly and set up were fairly easy, you then plug it an and fill the hopper with your preferred pellets. The smoke is a bit different than my charcoal smoker, I got a nice smoke ring but the bark formation was not a thick as I am used to but since this is my first smoke I probably just need to adjust my technique. The family gave it a good review at dinner and I was able to go for a MT bike ride and get yard work done while smoking meat so I can see myself using this most weekends.

I started looking for alternatives to gas grilling a few months ago and based on "grillmasters", pellet grilling is the way to go. I selected the Nexgrill Oakford since I have had great experience and support with my older Nexgrill 2-burner gas grill. ASSEMBLY - The Oakford is pretty straightforward on assembly, no special tools are required but it does help to have an extra person, especially on the leg assembly. One person assembly takes 1-1/2 hours, the extra person can shave off about 20 minutes. ASSEMBLED - The Oakford is well built. The bottom shelf provides extra stability of the support legs when moving the grill around using the included wheels. I love the gasketed lid and it conforms to the drum very well creating a good seal. The lid is also double-wall, insulating it from the drum temperature. I also appreciate the shelves; folding front and fixed side shelf. It is worth noting that there is a discrepancy in the cooking space. Nexgrill states the 790 has over 790 sq. in. of cooking space, however, I measure 702.5 sq. in. of the combined actual grill area of both upper and lower grills (bottom measures 19.5 X 25 = 487.5 while the top measures 10 X 21.5 = 215 for a combined 702.5). Nexgrill also claims to fit 39 hamburgers but doesn't state what size burgers. I cannot see fitting 39 standard 3-1/2" size burgers on all cooking surfaces of this grill. GRILLING & OPERATING - Filled with quality mesquite pellets in the hopper, I followed the Nexgrill manual and performed the burn-off of the processing oils. I encountered an ER2 error code on the control display during the warm-up which is an ignition failure. Even though the auger was primed and the temperature was rising, although slowly. Following the instructions in the manual, I rechecked the burner area and performed a power cycle re-start. No further occurrences. After the burn-off, I let the grill cool off and broke down the interior components of the grill for cleaning and inspection. I was surprised to observe that the "grease tray" had signs of hot spots and even warped slightly. I contacted Nexgrill support about this which I have detailed their reply below. I reassembled the Oakford after cleaning and prepped the grill for cooking burgers. I downloaded the Nexgrill App and set up the Oakford through the App which was amazingly easy on my Android phone. Using the App to control the grill was quite easy. I can monitor and change the grill temperature right from the App and the App provides updates when the Oakford has achieved the set temperature. Operating the Oakford from the controller on the grill is also pretty easy. Nexgrill designed the controller to be versatile with numerous operation buttons. In my opinion, this makes operating the grill a little complex since some of these operations can cause unintended operations such as the play/pause button (a first for me. This places the grill in a standby mode for up to 5 minutes. A pause longer than 5 minutes completely shuts the grill down). So, I placed unseasoned 80/20 burgers on the grill, the Oakford set to low-n-slow of the lowest setting of 160 degrees. The Oakford ran between 160 degrees and as high as 190 degrees. After 2 hours I bumped the temp to 225 degrees for 30 minutes to finish the burgers. The burgers came out great, not at all dry, and just a touch of smoke flavor. I spread the burgers across the width of the Oakford and all came out equally cooked. OVERALL - The Nexgrill Oakford is a well-built grill and does a pretty decent job holding the temperature within the set point. The pluses are the great App interface, front folding shelf and the side shelf, gasketed and insulated lid. The minuses are an overly complex controller, no thermometer in the lid, currently no parts availability, the side shelf makes monitoring/accessing the drip bucket awkward, but in trade-off, I'd rather have the shelf over easy access to the bucket. FINAL NOTES - So contacting Nexgrill about the warped grease tray and the ER2 error code. Nexgrill states they haven't had any reported issues with the hot spots and warping of the grease pan. Negrill customer support states that perhaps I have a defective grease pan and they will send me a replacement. But, there are none in stock. In fact, most parts are not in stock with no date as to when they will be getting stock. Nexgrill recommended that I could return the Oakford to the store but that it should be ok to still use the grill with the grease pan with the slight warping in it. I inquired on an additional thermometer probe, it too is not available. The Nexgrill does a fine job grilling but because of the limited availability of parts of this grill, I cannot recommend the Oakford.

This NexGrill Oakford 790 grill came in a huge box on a pallet. It took my husband several hours to unbox, unpackage everything and assemble. We bought 3 different varieties of pellets so we can experiment. This is our first time using a pellet grill or smoker so we’ve had to do some research. The first night we made smoked chicken breasts and they turned out amazing. Low and slow for almost 2 hours on smoke mode. The second night we attempted to make hamburgers and my husband had some trouble keeping the grill at a high temperature. It kept defaulting back and we watched the temperature drop rapidly on the phone app. He couldn’t figure out what was wrong so we need to do some more research and learn how to use it better. It definitely takes more knowledge than a normal propane grill. The grill is an absolute beast but the wheels make it easy to move around. One thing I didn’t realize until we assembled it is that it’s electric and requires an outlet nearby. This limited where we could place it on our deck. So far it’s working great. The control panel is pretty easy to navigate and it’s really handy to have the Bluetooth connectivity so you can sit back and watch the temperatures from your phone. The included probe has been really handy to insure perfectly cooked chicken. My husband has an undercooked chicken phobia and has a tendency to overcook chicken on a propane grill. Knowing the internal temperature gives him the peace of mind to know it’s cooked properly. It takes a bit of experimentation so be sure to read the manual and practice a few times before you entertain and serve others. Overall my husband is thrilled to have this new hobby and I’m happy to be the taste tester.

The WIFI feature does not work! I have spoken to Nexgrill tech support multiple times! and they will not replace or provide me a resolution. Yes, i can still smoke and grill but the reason i purchased this 580 smoker is for the Wif feature. If you are looking to buy this grill for the wifi feature, look somewhere else!

Was surprised from the quality of this little smoker can’t wait to see how it functions

I've already expressed my displeasure with my experience with Nexgrill in a previous review but just found out my replacement controller that was promised late July to 1st of August has now been pushed back to late October and of course, I had to call to find out since they don't notify you of any delays. No apologies whatsoever from anyone at Nexgrill. My advice, get a good quality grill and stay away from this product.

I have reviewed this product before on June 20th but appears it has been removed. I've had this smoker for slightly more than 12 months and used it very little perhaps less than 10 times then the controller went out. I talked to support and they said they are back ordered and would be late July early August when I would receive it. It's August 24th and the summer is almost gone but still no sign of controller. The grill itself seems to be a well constructed product but wow, didn't think it would have such a cheap controller and let alone any replacements. I went all in on this grill and had high hopes but now left Smokeless in Fort Worth with no communication on when or if I'll be back in business. Extremely disappointed in this product.

This grill sucks at keeping a consistent temp. I'll set it to smoke at 225 and it'll sit around 225 for a bit, then jump up to 350, then down to 150... It's nice when it works, but it's very inconsistent.

Having difficult time operating as instructed. Operation instructions are vague at best and app is even less user friendly. When all works as programmed its great but not normally the case!
