I bought the 18v and found the power adequate on box hedges or thick vines. More power would be better. The unit is much heavier/unbalanced than I expected. Using the short pole is ok at best and with the extension it is barely manageable. I don’t think it is worth buying over the regular trimmer unless you really need the reach.

Ryobi makes really great products, so I purchased this trimmer. Unfortunately, I found it heavy and akward to use. Decided to return it since it wasn't cheap. Home Depot was excellent during the entire process!

Saves from using a ladder

Great product. Works great. Very well built.

So far, it’s done the job and the charge lasts for a normal project. Only drawback is the strap is cumbersome and the grip doesn’t stay tight. Overall - decent product.

I am very happy with it so far! The battery held the charge for the 30 minutes I was using it and it still had 3 bars when I finished. The blades cut well and I didn’t find it too heavy. A big improvement over my corded one. It is a bit more noisy though.

A fine trimmer but heavier than I thought..

At my age (80) it is perfect for tall bushes...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this 2 weeks ago to trim very large shrubs. It works as advertised. I was able to trim the top of the shrubs without a ladder.

Product is outstanding. Delivery was timely.

I'm pretty much not impressed. Fit, finish, and quality are all fine, and I do like the connection points, big enough to be handled with gloves on. This unit is cumbersome, requiring a lot of effort at full extension, and the harness is not of much help. A harness with a bungee keep more weight handled with shoulder strength, relieving arm effort. Works well on soft stems, but anything woody (as in bottlebrush or live oak) over 3/8" can jam/stall it, forget about 5/8" Or the cutter head has to be worked around to beat it to death, eventually chewing through to leave a shredded and frayed end. I will sharpen it, but I find it hard to believe it would come new-in-the-box with dull blades. The 2ah battery is not sufficient, I bought (2) 4ah, use one while the other is charging. Upon reflection, I should've gotten the 40v

The shoulder strap attaches to the unit for ease of handling. Unfortunately the clip is poorly designed, requiring extra effort to attach it the unit. I contacted Ryobi for a replacement shoulder strap. I haven’t received it yet.

Very happy with this product. Very easy to assemble and works exactly as I had hoped. It’s easy to handle (the trimmer battery attaches at the base of the pole and the trimmer itself is lighter than my regular Ryobi hedge trimmer. And, the added plus is that my existing Ryobi batteries work thus avoiding the need to purchase more at this time.

Easy to assemble. Works well. Only reason not excellent for me personally is that it is heavy. Overall I am happy with the purchase.

helpful quick kind easy to work with

A beast (in a good way). Easily changed angles. Kind of heavy so only use it for the hard to reach areas needing the pole. Use a smaller one for lower trimming.

One star for safety. The literature points out clearly that the tool in dangerous and that the battery should be removed before doing any adjusting to the unit as it is easily activated. There are MULTIPLE problems. 1) The trigger is very easy to accidently activate. 2) so easy that the unit can be triggered to “on” while removing the battery. 3) They also make a big point to always cover the blade with the blade protector when not in use, but putting on the blade guard is dangerous to do. Why not provide a “separate” on/off switch which isn't easily activated. Why not provide a blade guard that fits on the already existing rail that would keep your hands away from the sharp blades during the process of putting it on. It’s like they created this dangerous tool, and then said, “Oh wow, we created this dangerous device, but we only have to tell people its dangerous, which is cheaper than making it safe to begin with, and we can be protected from liability." Not cool.
