A must have tool for any tool collection, especially for those needing to do more precision work. The unit operates with a simple on/off switch with 6 selectable speeds. The "lowest" setting is for the foot pedal control, (which can be added later via a port in the front) but since this kit does not come with the foot pedal, I cannot tell you how the unit works with a foot pedal. Selecting the foot pedal option without a foot pedal inserted spins the unit at its slowest speed out of the six options. The Brushless 18v motor definitely pumps out more power and run time than your smaller battery/hand held units. Though there is a bit of sacrifice in maneuverability for power as the main cable does have a decent amount of weight and resistance to it which makes it somewhat difficult to maneuver like a fully handheld unit. This is the tool only version, so the battery was not included, however the tool took one of my 18v Ryobi batteries without issues. Included you will also find a huge selection of starter bits which should get you through all kinds of projects. The Quick connect system is great allowing easy and frustration free swaps of bits, no tools are needed to switch between bits. The rotation lock is located on the handheld unit. I mainly use the the sanding and grinding wheels to work on rust removal/restoration projects on smaller objects such as bird houses and have had no issues. The cutting wheel I've been using to cut through old pvc pipes to alter piping and it cuts through pvc like butter. The rubber on the feet of the unit do a good job at preventing vibrations and preventing the unit from sliding around while in use. The "feet" are pressure mounted, so they just pull right off if you want to go with the permanent mounting. For permanent mounting there are two slots on the bottom of unit if you would like to wall mount it. You can also choose on which side of the unit the handheld unit rests on as the clip that holds it in place just slides into the side of your choice. Even though it feels like the unit would tip over easily with the weight of the cable and handheld unit. I've had no issues when storing it. Overall very pleased with the tool as it performs better than I expected.

With sufficient power for all tasks undertaken and consistent RPM under sustained material pressure - watch the video - this kit is great. The controls have positive stops at each of the RPM steps. Increasing the tool speed can remove a lot more material but the material might also get scorched so it's a question of finding the RPM sweet spot. The manual has a handy table of recommendations for users. There is some variability in the quality of the components; the smaller quarter inch sanding band was a loose fit on the rubber wheel and easily slipped and stalled. The drill bit shaft got stuck in the chuck. The metal cutting discs performed very well and did not appear to wear at the same rate as some others I have used. I did find the supplied wrench a bit small and fiddly to use. Switching to a regular sized wrench was an improvement and the thicker head helped to set the shaft gap easily. All the cutting tools create a very fine dust from the material and I made sure to wear a mask and thoroughly vacuum the dust away.

This rotary tool has a long flex shaft so you have flexibility when working. You can mount this on a wall out of the way. The quick change chuck is nice and easy to change out the bits easier with no tools. There is a jack to hook up a foot pedal so you can change speed without stopping your work. The two things I would add is a storage area for different bits and make it hybrid with the 120v/18v power supply.

It comes with sanding drums, drill bits, polishing discs, cut off wheel and other things in a nice case. If you are going to use it in a stationery you hang it on the wall or wherever. This tool has a 3 or a 4 foot rotary hose. It has speed control and you can add a foot pedal.

This RYOBI ONE + HP 18 V BRUSHLESS CORDLESS ROTARY TOOL is designed to live up to professional expectations. It has a longer run time and twice the power under load compared to other tools of this type, and with a variable speed dial (knob) it holds the set speed where you put it, unlike similar tools with a “ slide bar” type speed control the tool speed can be set from 1,000 to 25,000 rpm. The precision hand piece is made of high grade aluminum and features a new innovative quick change collet ( similar to a drill chuck) . This model does not come with a battery, even though my pictures show one. I believe this tool to be of great quality and over my lifetime I have owned a few!

The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Rotary Tool is a great tool to have around the house. It is a great carving as well as small sanding and buffing. I like to carve and this tool works better than most of my other tools like it. It is easy to use light weight and is easy to get into small areas. The battery lasts a long time and is easy to change. Another good tool to have.

As an active DIY, I occasionally need a precision tool that is both easy to grab and carry to the site of the work, and can handle small, even tiny fixes: to polish or grind an area in a tight space, to precision sand a miter joint, to cut off the head of a protruding bolt without damaging surrounding area, etc. I recently got this product, and immediately put it to work to polish out paint touch-up, at a couple of spots on my car. No electric cords to deal with, I just brought this little power pack over to the car, attached a small buffing pad, and went to work. It wasn’t a mammoth job, but it did the trick in short order. I also tried the small sanding drums on a miter join, and they worked equally well. What I like: 1. Small, lightweight, portable. 2. Reasonable quantity and variety of accessories included. 3. Easy to read power switches, with several speed settings plus on/off. 4. Handpiece is easy to grip, well-fabricated of aluminum, and the attachment of accessories to the collet is intuitive. The collet locking button is easy to locate. Not sure what the “quick change” feature is about, the locking/unlocking function seems conventional to me. 5. 36” flexible shaft is long enough to allow easy movement, without getting in the way of the work. The shaft connection to the motor is fabricated from plastic rather than metal – not sure how this may hold up over time, although the longer warranty suggests it should. 6. Convenient plastic mounting holder attaches to base for storage of the handpiece. 7. Universal Ryobi battery pack can be swapped with other products. 8. 3-year product warranty is good expression of manufacturer confidence in the quality of its product. What I think needs improvement: The user’s manual. Understanding how to assemble the small accessories to their spindles was not intuitive. Printed textual information appears in English at the beginning of the manual. But until reading the manual more closely, I didn’t realize that the illustrations for this process were provided at the END of the manual (following many pages of instructions that were printed in various other languages). Placing the product illustrations at the front of the manual, would be helpful and make it less frustrating to find them. Bottom line: This is a nice, convenient precision tool for those who take pride in fine-tuning the details. Hobbyists will probably delight in its mobility and simplicity of operation, with the availability of a (separately purchased) foot-pedal accessory for those who need it. Though battery powered, it’s got all the power of a plug-in product. A tad pricey perhaps, but a nice product that I would recommend to others.

I used mine to finalize the letters on a lamp post sign that I am making. It is light weight and easy to use.

I received a complete Ryobi rotary tool kit. Everything needed to get started; the power head, flex shaft and the pen-like bit holder as well as the foot control, a charger and battery pack. Completing the set is an assortment of rotary tools. The battery came with a partial charge like all the other cordless tools. I like the newest batteries that incorporate a state of charge indicator. The power head is fitted with a heavy wire base that can be swiveled out to be used to hang the power head. That will be very handy in some work situations. The flex shaft mounts to the power head with a thread on fitting. Just below the flex shaft connector is the socket for the remote foot control plug. On top is the rotary speed selector control and the power switch. The foot control incorporates a safety lock paddle. Ones foot folds the tab down to unlock the pedal. Using the foot control gives continuously variable speeds. The rotary selector control on the power head has a position marked foot pedal. The other selections are numbered 5, 10, 15, 18, 20 and 25. These correspond to the speeds, X1000. These settings are click stops, not continuously variable speeds. The tool in this kit came fitted with the quick change collet already installed on the handpiece. Supplied as an accessory was the standard collet with insert for 1/8" shafts and the wrench tool that is required for changing. The quick change collet only handles 1/8" shaft bits. The included accessory kit has a nice assortment of bits. There are cutting burrs, a couple of stones and a wire wheel as well a two sizes of sanding sleeves. A few polishing wheels and red compound are also included in this kit. Ryobi also included a quick-lok style of cutting disc. That was great to see as mounting those discs can be done without a screwdriver.

I have a couple of rotary tools - one corded and one cordless. Both, though, are big, heavy and bulky for the fine, precision type of work one normally uses a rotary tool for. Sure, you can add a cable but then the tool itself flops around. This Ryobi rotary tool has a base that houses the powerful variable speed brushless motor and whatever size Ryobi 18V battery you have and then you use the business end of the tool at the end of the 4 foot cable. A tool less spindle lock makes changing bits that much easier. Even has a port for an accessory foot pedal for control.

Very nice set, comes with everything you need to get started. Except the battery of course, but I have plenty, so I'm glad the "tool only" option was available. The base unit is a little unbalanced until you install a One+ battery, and that makes it quite stable. The hand piece mounting clip can be installed on either side of the base unit - nice option for us lefties. The base can be mounted to a vertical surface, or using the attached bracket hung from a stable hook. There is an optional foot pedal available, good for the serious DIY'r or Pro, but I don't feel I need it. The control is indented for various speeds which is good because different materials require different speeds. The handpiece has a solid substantial feel to it and is easy to hold. The cable to connect to the base is nice and flexible, even when cold, so the tool is easy to control, even at multiple angles. The various accessories are easy to change and most are tool free. I like the portable nature of this, while I will most often use it on my workbench, it sure is nice having the option to take to the work without fooling with an extension cord.

I have always wanted a rotary tool and I'm glad I got this one. Ryobi is a trusted company in my household, so when I saw this one it was definitely a must have. I already have other Ryobi products, so the battery is interchangeable between every lovely green Ryobi tools I have. It also comes with 40 accessories, so basically everything you need is right there. The foot pedal is great!! Overall, a great tool to have.

I like The RYOBI One+ rotary tool. I have had the “other” rotary tool and they never hold up. I like the way The RYOBI is configured so that if you have issues with the chuck or the wand or the motor they are replaceable, with the “other” one you have to but a whole new unit. The RYOBI accepts all the same 1/8 inch shaft tools and accessories and does so cordlessly. I’m not sure about actual real world battery life yet but I have other Ryobi 18V tools and the batteries interchange, bonus. This kit also comes with something you didn’t know you needed til you used it once and that is a foot pedal to control the tool speed from off to full on. Ryobi also has a 90 day exchange and three year warranty that are very good.

Ryobi one+18volt Brushless Cordless Rotary tool works great for all my hobbies from model trains to woodworking, household repairs, sharpening tools. Polishing etc. This has a quick-change collet for most 1/8’’ shafts to make switching accessories a lot faster no tools required. A standard collet is also included so you can use some 1/16’’ shafts. You are able to adjust the RPMS from 5000 to all the way up to 25,000 this is a great feature when you are doing different projects or if you are working on a wood project that has different grains of wood and you want to carve across the grain. Using this is like holding a pen great for engraving or carving almost like writing. When you are done just slip the 36’’ flexible shaft into the holder that fits on either side of the tool. The included 40-piece accessory kit has everything to get you going plus a nice storage box. This tool can be used by just setting it on your work bench, mounted to the wall or hung up all great features now I can take it where I want to work even on my deck in the sunshine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I replaced a 20 year old rotary tool, and this one is way superior. I purchased the foot pedal with this as well, and that is a real game changer.

Battery will never have as much power as an AC unit but this one does all I need, I had one of the older 18v never found anything it could not handle. This is supposed to be the most powerful 18v battery unit. Comes with a nice box of bits/tools the footpedal is the main attractive feature for me will be very useful when cutting or cleaning. The arm unscrews from the motor housing and the kit you get a battery/charger for ten bucks it's a good deal. Like it.

Very handy tool, plenty of power for most projects

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this about a month ago and have used it several times and I really like the way it works. Mine included a foot pedal and that has made it so much easier to work with.

The tool is great with the exception of the quick change chuck that needs to be replaced as it does not work properly.

Tool was easy to use amd works great.

This has some good power to it. It also gets hot in the hand and has to cool down after 5 minutes of use.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It works great and has plenty of power to push through tough jobs. As others have said if you play with the chuck it will get where it doesn't seem to work, it can be fixed with some fiddling with it though. My only gripe with it is the holder for it, you have to put the black part of the cord in then feed it up the handle about 5in and reverse it to take it out. It is entirely too much to do just to hang it up. Will probably have to build a pvc thing to hang it on instead.

This is a really great rotary tool. It seems to be well built.

Tried the foot pedal but didn't like it. The tool stays on low without your foot on the pedal. When you press the pedal, it speeds up, but I would prefer it stopped when I take my foot off the pedal. Besides that, the tool is excellent.
