Absolute garbage
I was in a pinch and needed a diesel can. This was the only option. After fiddling with this piece of junk for 10 minutes and still not getting anything more than a trickle, I just took the spout off and used a funnel. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone...ever.

Hi Grant - Customer satisfaction is very important to Scepter. We understand your frustration but similar to medication packaging, gas/diesel cans must also adhere to strict child resistance packaging laws. All fuel containers sold in the United States must come equipped with a child-safety lock and adhere to environmental regulations (EPA). This product should only be used with the spout it came with at the time of purchase. They are designed to work together and using any other spout can result in an improper seal allowing harmful vapors to escape. We STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST using this can with the modifications you’ve described. This can is designed to be used with your palm. Step 1; Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. You may find that placing the fuel can flat on the ground and actuating the spout once or twice prior to use may allow the green pad to slide easier during operation. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. You may find that placing the fuel can flat on the ground and actuating the spout once or twice prior to use may allow the green pad to slide easier during operation. Step 4: Tilt can and pour. The “screen” you see in the neck of the fuel can is actually a safety device called a flame mitigation device (FMD). Its inclusion in fuel containers is part of a 2020 U.S. law to improve overall safety. It does not make it safe to mix Gas and Fire, which remains extremely dangerous, but helps to protect the consumer against situations of potential misuse. Do not ever remove or modify the FMD. We understand that filling the containers now requires the user to learn to rest the pump in the center of the FMD, on the steps, to fill at full speed. You can also choose simply to take your time filling the container. This can has a flow rate of 3+ gallons per minute when actuated fully. We have posted both fill and pour instructions online at https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ which should help. Please contact our customer care team at 1-855-857-3252 or email customerservice@scepter.com so that we can resolve this for you. We are here to help! Scepter

Also, there is a funnel available directly from Scepter that can be used in conjunction with the SMARTCONTROL SPOUT that may help. Every automobile is different, so it is not a one size fits all situation. Also, as a suggestion some customers have use a smaller can which is lighter when full and easier to handle from a weight perspective as well as the geometry being different and possibly better for your application. There is a hook on the underside of the SMARTCONTROL spout that can rest on the lip of the receiving tank, using the hook helps alleviate much of the weight. Tilt the can up from the bottom using one hand, following the instructions for the spout with the other hand. Hard to pour
Thought this would be easy by what I saw in the video. You have to be superman to pour this into your truck. It came out super slow and took nearly 10 minutes to empty. So I had to prop up the can with one leg, tip with one arm, and try to keep the green tab tight together with the other hand. Spout not long enough to pour into truck. I didn't have a funnel up in the mountains so I couldn't even empty it all into the truck, even upside down. Would not recommend this. Not easy to use.

      Buy Something Else
I needed quite a few cans and bought all they had at Harbor Freight. Their $18 can is superior. My largest complaint is the filter made on the inside was so narrow I could not put a small diameter funnel more than an inch in it. I imagine there is no way a pump nozzle would fit in there with fuel spraying everywhere. USELESS and my can cost me $28.

Hi ADKPete - There is a screen in the neck of the containers which is a flame mitigation device (FMD) for consumer protection. Their inclusion in fuel containers is now law. Unfortunately, there are people who misuse fuel and can end up severely injured. Gas and Fire never mix and our goal is the safety of our customers. We understand that filling the containers can take a bit longer, but this does add an extra layer of protection for consumers who don’t handle fuel responsibly. . We STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST using this can with ANY MODIFICATIONS OR REMOVING the FMD. Horrible product. When filling your truck tank it only comes out as a trickle. In order for it to flow quickly you have to be able to pour it completely upside down, which you can’t when filling your trucks tank. I had to take the top off and use a funnel. Spilled all over me and the ground. Nice job California with your stupid laws. It made me pollute instead of the old school cans that worked great.

Hi - There are environmental regulations (EPA) that must be met on all fuel cans sold in the US and must also adhere to strict child resistant packaging laws and come equipped with a child-safety lock. works for me.
not a fan of the silly nozzles that get more "interesting" every year, but I find these simple enough to work. I prop it up on my John Deere and then release it, dealing with the awkward filler position, but it might not be so convenient for everyone. Getting ready to order 2 more after using the other two for six months.

Hi - We understand your frustration, but similar to medication packaging, gas cans must also adhere to strict child resistance packaging laws. All fuel containers sold in the United States must come equipped with a child-safety lock. To protect consumers, the fuel container industry is heavily regulated. This container cannot be used with any other spout than the one it came with at the time of purchase as it may not seal correctly allowing harmful vapors to escape. We've posted some instructional video online that details the operation of the spout. The video "How To Operate Your SmartControl Fuel Container" can be found at the following link and should help: https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ Step 1; Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. Hi Goodbuy - Sorry to hear you’ve had difficulty with the Gas Can, let’s see if we can help troubleshoot for you. This product is designed to be used with your palm. The video "How To Operate Your SmartControl Fuel Container" can be found at the following link and should help: https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ . Step 1; Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. Step 4: Tilt can and pour. We conduct 100% leak testing of this product so if the cap is screwed down and tightened securely, this should not leak. Please contact our customer care team at 1-855-857-3252 or email customerservice@scepter.com so we can resolve this for you. Scepter
