We always buy Scotts shady mix
We bought it again this year. It grows great at first, but then we notice each year it starts to die out around this time. Is this grass short lived? Should we sew some more seeds? It comes back in the spring. Would like some tips, we are DIY people. We also fertilize and water our lawn.

This product DOES grow grasses

Different grasses germinate at different times. In the spring it takes a lot of consistently warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in the northern states. Depending on your location and the current daytime/nighttime temperatures, the grass will usually start germinating once the weather gets warmer. For Cool Season Grasses (Bluegrass/Rye/Fescue) Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees (+12.7 Celsius) for Grass Seed to germinate. In the north daytime temperatures need to consistently be 65+ degrees (18.3 Celsius) range. In the spring it takes a lot of consistently warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in the northern states Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed
Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Its Recommended to water twice daily for about 15 minutes to keep the seeds moist while they germinate.

Planted this seed is fresh dirt and covered with straw and within 10 days they germinated and small shoots of grass are appearing. Great product.

Home Depot happily refunded my money!
Prepped, aerated, fertilized, seeded and watered twice daily for three weeks in ideal temperatures. Not a sprout of grass, but did get some weeds in the first week. Same with the Bermuda seed on the other side of the house in full sun. Seeded some bare spots on the same day as the shade blend, and still no bermuda. Have used Scott's for three generations in my family, but it's time to move on from the hype and go shopping for something that works, with my refund.

Disappointed in germination rate
Very low germination rate. Had plenty or rain and cooler temps but still minimal germination. Not what I expected from a Scott’s product.
