Watch for Slagged Nails
I purchased 3 boxes to secure string ties to trusses. The 1st box I opened had a large number of unusable nails. I knew they were hot-dipped, but I expected QC to catch the fact that the galvanizing had pooled into a slag and rendered many of the nails useless.

sharp end diameter too big to fit L70z hole
L70z hole diameter is 4mm, the nail shunk is 3.8mm, but the sharp end max diameter can be more than 4.3mm. Such poor mfg problem not found in old nails 20years ago. US great brands so keen to kill themselves.

Hello Joel, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. Thank you for your comment. The Strong-Drive nails are manufactured this way and comply with ASTM F1667, metal hardware nails. They have also been tested with L70Z connectors with no issues. As long as the steel around the hole is not torn or damaged then the nail is okay to be used.
