almost 5 stars!! heres why
The GOOD its light, snaps into pole saw position, snaps to chainsaw mode well. Nice metal sproket, contact points for bar. Sharp as a prison shank and eats live branches like butter. Even in pole saw mode in the shortest setting its easy to saw limbs and logs without bending over to steain yiur back. This saw in the first cut has paid for itself! I cleaned it and ready for the next time i need it. Winner winner! NOW what i would improve on. Put a small bottle oil bar oil in the box charge a few bucks more to save a trip to the store number 2 thing make a place to attach the tension tool into thr saw itself . Those two things wouls be a 5 star saw alll day!!!

This thing ROCKS! It was simple to assemble and exceeded my expectations. The description said it could handle up 8 inches, and we went well past that mark. I am not saying that it can handle anything, but it did get all of our tree on the ground.

The Sun Joe was very easy to assemble. It was ideal for the hillside I was cutting. I found it to be very user friendly when detaching the actual chain saw portion. I would highly recommend the Sun Joe to any homeowner. I used it solid for 2 days in a row and it never skipped a beat.

      Lightweight and perfect!
After having estimates up to $600 to cut some tree limbs away from my roof, I did a little research and bought this to do it myself. I am a 32 year old, muscle-less woman and handled this chainsaw with the extension pole while standing on my roof without a problem! So glad to have save several hundred dollars!

The saw was exactly what I needed. I love the fact that you can take the pole out of the product and use it just as a chain saw. The quality is good too. It cut through my tall palm trees like butter.

Makes trimming very easy. I love it. The head part detached and got stuck on the tree when I was trying to pull a cut branch down. But that was my fault to use it for something that it was not designed for.

I purchased the Sun Joe SWJ806E for the price, the stated power and the ad statement that said "Stand safely on solid ground and simply adjust Sun Joe's telescoping pole to gain up to 15 ft. of overhead reach" Well, upon opening the carton the pole didn't extend to the 15 feet as stated in the ad. It only measured a bit over 8 feet. I called Sun Joe and received a customer service person immediately. I explained the discrepancy in the pole length. He immediately asked me how tall was I and then stated that my height along with the pole length should be the stated height in the ad. At this point I was extremely frustrated and advised him that this was deceptive ad practice for if my 5'3" wife would use the saw there was no way in heck that it would reach the 15 feet. The representative said that he understood my point and that if wished to return it to Home Depot, it wouldn't be a problem. However, he then urged that I should give it a try just for the heck of it. I decided to give it a try and BOY am I glad that I didn't return it. This saw eats wood like it was on steroids. It took everything that I threw at it. I cut a trunk that was 15" Dia. with no problems, like a hot knife going through butter. The motor ran smoothly and never bogged down. The cuts were clean and no scorches that one normally gets when you have issues with poor quality teeth or insufficient motor power. I knew on the first cut that the saw was not going back. If you are a person that needs the stated misleading 15 feet reach, then this saw is not for you. But if you are 6'5" like me, this will work great. Even with the misleading ad I still rated this saw with 5★. Simply put, it's that good. At this price and with the great performance, I'm going to buy another one for my property up in the Pocono mountains.

Fast Shipping, well packed. Oil Cap was loose & cannot be tightened. Sun Joe sent replacement cap, but still not working / cannot be tightened. Looks like the thread is Stripped on the body and/or defective. Need to return/exchange. It is still a good value if it works properly w/o defects.

I found this pole saw to be way better that I expected. The detachable saw and handle make it quite useful as a stand alone chain saw. The blade was plenty sharp. Plenty of power and very useful in both configurations. As a chainsaw it is very lightweight and easy to use. The vibration level is very low when compared to a gas chainsaw. This drastically lowers hand fatigue. It works very well for the same reason as a pole saw. Will I reached branches as high as 15 feet, I do wish that they made a pole extender kit to reach even higher branches. There was nothing about the saw that I disliked.

The product arrived with the box damaged and no instructions. I could tell the box had been retaped before delivery. I was able to figure out the assembly and watched several videos on YouTube to verify I had it correct. The product itself is excellent and works great. I also own a Gas powered chain saw and this is much easier to use and more reliable. The pole extension allows for easy reach and it retracts easily. I'd highly recommend this for all home owners that need a light duty chain saw.

Our new ‘go to’ saw for tree trimming and firewood jobs around the garden. It’s so much more convenient to use than our pole saw attachment for our gas weed whacker. We have a lot of Ailanthus trees of heaven in our yard and the branches randomly die each year and need trimming. We decided to try this Sun Joe pole saw since the electric saw is more convenient than the heavier pole saw attachment for our gas weed whacker. Perhaps the most useful feature of this saw is how quickly the pole saw extension can be removed and the saw becomes a handy chainsaw for chopping the larger branches into firewood. With the pole fully extended, the reach is around 14-15’ and the pole saw is still reasonably easy to control when at full reach. The pole is extended using a simple rotating handle which makes quick work of adding extra reach when needed. In order to convert from the pole saw to the chainsaw and vice versa, the handle/switch module unclips from the center pole section using a simple push button. It then clips into the saw module to create a lightweight 8” chainsaw which is likely to become our go-to saw (in preference to our 18” gas powered chainsaw) for most of the 4-6” diameter branches we chop up for winter firewood as it is so much easier to use. The saw blade is sharp and easy to keep tensioned using the included wrench/flat blade screwdriver combo tool. The only thing that would make this better is if there were a slot in the saw handle to keep this chain adjuster wrench with the tool as opposed to laying around loosely. The convenience of not having to mix two cycle gas, get a sometimes reluctant motor to fire up and waking up the neighborhood with a screaming two stroke at full throttle is wonderful. You just get out a heavy duty extension cord, clip it into the plastic cord snubber that keeps the electrical plug and socket firmly connected during use, plug it in and you’re ready to go. We trimmed a number of smaller branches and a larger 3-4” limb that was 20’ long. The saw blade bites through the wood quickly with no slowing or binding from the 7.5 amp motor. Once the limb was on the ground, it took a few seconds to convert over to the mini chainsaw and the process of removing the smaller branches and turning the limb into logs was quick and simple. Like all chainsaws, the blade of the Sun Joe needs tensioning and also lubricating with chain oil. The saw comes with a small bottle of oil however it won’t last particularly long, so I recommend picking up a liter bottle of chain oil from Home Depot when buying this saw. The packing carton was damaged when it arrived - most of the staples on one seam had popped loose and there was no instruction/user manual in the box as a result. Fortunately Home Depot has the manuals available as a downloadable PDF on the product page, so it was easy to fix this issue without having to call the manufacturer for help. The saw also comes with a two year manufacturer warranty.

I love this saw. I have a great reach with it and, for a handy man-gardener, it is a perfect tool. I have a lot of pine trees that needed limbing out and this was extremely useful to me. I was able to reach up at least 12 feet and get what I needed to from the ground. When the branches were all down I took the saw off the extension handle and cut up the branches into small pieces that I could bundle for the solid waste pick up. It had plenty of power and was easy to use and convert from the extension long reach pole to a hand held saw. I hope you find this helpful.

Good for tall bushes and small projects, not necessarily tall trees with thick branches. It does do well on a hard wood bush. It does it's basic functional job. However, the pole, made of fiberglass, scratches easily and then it is hard to compress or extend. The housing on the saw is soft plastic and it damages easily, see the picture. I got a nice chip or tear on it the first time I used it. The chain kept falling off, may be due to adjustment. The chain and bar install like normal. As light as they can make it, it was awkward to use, at full extension, still muscling it to counter balance the end weight. I understand this. I looked at a tall tree, but the branches to too big for this and was a little concern for losing control of the pole when at the full vertical position. For me, I rated it as average, really should not extend this at full range, it is good for over size bushes.

                Pole Chain Saw
The pole saw was used to doing some minor trimming of a 30ft pear tree. I am not able to climb a step ladder and the limbs that need to be cut are out of my reach. The saw pole is lightweight enough and easy to handle. It will give a better cut that a hand looper, because the cut is closer to the branch. I had no problems starting or using the saw. The chain moved very clean and sharp cuts. I had a few problems seeing the cutting chain with the pole attached. It is powered by a 7.5 Amp motor has an 8 inch cutting head. I won’t have to cut any limbs more than 2-3 in thick. There is a bar-chain guard (cover) I already have a quality extension cord. There is an extension cord restraint hook that prevents power disconnections. It comes with a small bottle of bar oil to get you started. Also it doesn’t take up much space for storage. There is a 2-year limited warranty. This is an ideal tool for home use.

                Easy to use
I've never used or owned an electric pole saw before, but I found it really easy to assemble. The directions were thorough and clear. If you haven't used one before I suggest reading through the directions and cautions before using the tool. It's recommended that you use a 16 gauge cord up to 50' in length or a 14 gauge up to 100' in length. It specifically says not to use a cord that is over 100'. I have a stump from an old bush that has been sitting out in my yard for years. I've tried using a sawzall on it but could only get the branches cut away and not the actual stump because it's too thick. This saw cut through it quickly, cleanly and easily. I didn't experience any kick back or other issues while cutting. Using the pole attachment, I was able to trim branches from my neighbors tree that hang over into my yard. It took a little bit to get used to the weight of the pole, but was really easy to use. It's a little unbalanced because of all the weight at the top. The branches I cut were about 3" thick and it cut through them very easily. So much easier than using a manual tree pruner. Extending the pole was pretty easy as well. I like that it can be used with or without the pole attachment, depending on the job. I have other shrubs that need to go so this tool will come in handy.

great to have the 2 in 1 conversion to a hand held from pole saw
first time user, easy set up, follow the instructions carefully for mounting the chain onto the blade and you'll be fine. Just be sure to not overfill the oil tank, it's small and pouring it in can easily overflow. Great to have this 2 in 1 feature where the saw detaches off the pole to be a hand held unit. Did some tall tree branches last week and then proceeded to cut them into smaller sizes to fit into the yard waste. The blade and unit are powerful enough to cut through the sizes that are recommended. Overall very happy to have this 2 in 1 chain saw. Get a long extension cord and you'll be just fine.
