Give Dad His Dream Garage with The Home Depot
Last updated August 21, 2024
Melissa spends her days creating the home she always dreamed of with her own two hands. Her platform, *Lake and Lumber*, is all about showing that although she is not a professional, she's here to help her audience gain the confidence to take on different projects for themselves no matter what budget or skill level. She uses her voice to assure her audience that through the DIY community you can tackle life, one power tool at a time!
A Note From The Home Depot
Melissa ofLake and Lumber has spent the last three years elevating her basic new construction home. When the chance to purchase an old, outdated home on a gorgeous wooded lot became available, she and her husband jumped at the opportunity! With a bigger home and lot, came more chaos; lawn equipment, tools, never-ending deliveries, and a severe lack of organization. Thankfully, The Home Depot was there with garage organization options that would give them their garage back!

Give Dad his Dream Garage with The Home Depot!
Has your garage been taken over by bikes, toys, and boxes your significant other refuses to break down? If so, you are in the right place! I partnered with The Home Depot to give my husband the ULTIMATE Father's Day gift...an organized garage! I am here to show you how the everyday low prices at The Home Depot can make this one-weekend project easy and affordable.
Step 1: Paint!
With any project, a fresh coat of paint makes all the difference! We decided to go with Studio Taupe, which is the perfect neutral and paired perfectly with our black floors and the "Ryobi green" that you will find all over our garage. The Behr Dynasty paint line made this portion of the project a breeze! The one-coat coverage on this paint is no joke...I painted our entire three-car garage (with 10ft ceilings) with ONE gallon.
Step 2: Organization!
Next, it was time to get as much off the ground as possible. Que The Home Depot's extensive offering of garage shelving! We went with the Husky 4-tier Industrial Shelving Unit in Black, which gave us ample space to store our new (and existing) HDX 27-gallon totes. These totes hold everything from gardening tools to kids' toys when they aren't in use. We added a pair of2'x8' ProSeries hanging shelvesabove this for those seasonal items that aren't used often (sleds, coolers, lawn items).
Step 3: Tool Storage!
Remember how I said we chose our paint color based on how it looked with "Ryobi Green?" Well, now you see why! On top of the Ryobi storage system we already have for my power tools, we added this gorgeous Husky Mobile Workbench Cabinet. This one-piece helped to organize ALL of our hand tools, paint supplies, hardware, and more. An added benefit? It has built-in power strips, so we are able to charge all of our Ryobi batteries for the power tools AND lawn equipment in one place.
The last "must have" in Cody's garage plan was an outdoor mudroom. The Husky Steel Storage Bench and two wall-mounted garage cabinets created an entryway drop zone to hold muddy boots, soccer cleats, and backpacks. At this point, Cody felt like the space was complete! But the kids and I had one more surprise for him…
Step 4: The Surprise Gift!
We wanted to make sure he had a space that was his own, and since we were able to come in below budget on the organizational side (thanks to the seasonal savings at THD), we rounded out the garage with a new Gladiator mini fridge and a couple of camping chairsthat he can hang out in with his buddies while he is whipping up a meal on his new Traeger Pro Series grill!
What would you put in YOUR dream garage? Be sure to ask the dad in your life this question and then head on over to your local Home Depot to make his dreams come true this Father's Day!
