Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting plastic plant pots, CFLs, lead acid batteries, and rechargeable batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
LED lights in your local store cut energy consumption by 98 million kilowatt hours. Many stores also participate in renewable energy initiatives such as wind and solar.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our eco actions.

Do you have huge Halloween yard decorations?
We have a number of gigantic outdoor Halloween decorations, several of which are animatronics. Make your front yard the scariest on the block with giant Halloween decor options, including skeletons, reapers, and witches. Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, and Dean the Deathologist, a dapper bartender, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables, especially the big ones, make a huge visual impact.
Why should I get a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with strong winds, blizzards, or thunderstorms, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity when the elements knock it out. When considering different generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors.
How can I prepare my home for the winter?
Ready your home for cold weather by replacing any broken or faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be looking at trouble. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofs or roofing shingles for rust or damage that could let water leak in. Gutters should be clear to prevent ice dams. Check bricks and cinder block for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be changed out if damaged.
How can I make more space for the holidays?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Shoe storage and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Protect fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've been waiting for.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Home Depot gift cards are a popular present for housewarming parties, birthdays, and the holidays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to receive and to give. Purchase gift cards at our brick-and-mortar stores or online at homedepot.com. If you're a recipient, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store, all with no additional fees.
