The cartridge pivots 90° so, unless there is something in the faucet base or handle to limit the swing to 45°, handles should pivot 90° from closed to full-open. If the faucet handles originally did not pivot that far, I would check for some kind of pin or lug in the bottom of the handle that was (but isn't any longer) limiting the swing and remount the handle so that that limiting pin/lug engages properly with whatever was creating the limit.

                  1. Turn off cold and hot water to faucet 2. Remove both handles (may need to pop off cover/plug to get to screw holding the handle on. 3. Loosen the nut holding cartridge in place 4. Remove cartridge by pulling upwards and wiggling out 5. Wipe clean inside of faucet to make sure new cartridge doesn't get caught on dirt or foreign matter. 6. Install new cartridge while aligning plastic tab in slot on faucet. Cartridge only can be installed one way. 7. Replace nut and tighten up 8. Replace handle/knob. And replace decorative cap/plug 9. Turn water back on slowly and check for leaks.

                    Answer This Question

The water handle should not turn 360 degrees. If it does, then you probably need this replacement part. I had to replace this part because the black rubber ring did not provide a good seal and the faucet dripped.

Yes, its a ceramic cartridge and its broken. Its only suppose to be a quarter turn. Replacing the cartridge should solve the problem. Just get your faucet model number and get a parts breakdown to make sure you are buying the right cartridge.

must be broken, get a replacement at home depot store, make sure you get the right one, because they look alike but if they are the wrong one, they will leak.

I contacted a plumber as it was a bit beyond my expertise. I have installed kitchen and bathroom faucets, but didn't want to experiment on taking one apart to repair it if there was a chance I could more damage in the process.
