About This Product

The Leviton Humidity Sensor and Fan Control automatically detects excess humidity in a room and activates the ventilation fan to lessen condensation which helps reduce mold and mildew. The sensor uses a microprocessor combined with state-of-the-art digital sensing technology to continuously monitor and manage humidity levels in areas of the home prone to condensation and mildew. It features user-friendly controls to adjust sensitivity, humidity level and time out settings. The sensor can replace a single pole switch and can be used with most bathroom or ventilation fans or fan/light combinations. It is designed to fit within a standard wallbox and requires a neutral wire for operation. Contemporary in design, the Humidity Sensor and Fan Control is the ideal solution for controlling ventilation in areas of high humidity, dampness or rooms prone to condensation and mildew such as: Bathrooms, Basements, Laundry Rooms and Home Spas. The sensor also helps reduce energy usage by automatically operating the fan only when needed to control excess humidity.

Q:Can this switch be used for a ceiling fan in a living room to turn on when humidity is above set threshold
by|Jul 6, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  This switch was basically made to turn on an exhaust fan that takes the wet air outside of a room in the house. to knock the humidity down. Yes it would work with a ceiling fan, however that fan wont blow the humid air outside so I cant say it would work with a ceiling fan, But it wont hurt the fan and I'm sure it would run longer if humid air is not exhausted outside. Just my opinion.

Q:Can this sensor be used with an in line exhaust unit?
by|Jan 27, 2020
2 Answers
Answer This Question

A:  I would say yes as long as the exhaust unit is controlled by the wall switch.

by|Apr 5, 2020

A:  Yes it can, Mostly people use this on a bathroom fan to exhaust all moisture after showering. It does sense humidity. You can program this switch to run in 20 minute increments and up to 4 hours , or use it just as a simple switch to turn on and off just about anything that is rated up to 20 amps.

A:  Yes, you can. The fan symbol area is actually a switch that you push to turn on or off the fan.

by|Feb 12, 2019

    by|Nov 3, 2019

A:  Yes, push the fan symbol area which is a switch to turn on or on the fan.

      by|Feb 12, 2019

          Great product
It took a few days to get the adjustments set to work correctly, but once you determine the correct settings for your particular installation, this is a great product.

            Disappointed
More of an issue of the location right next to bathroom sink but it turns fan on quicker when I’m running hot water in the sink then when the shower is running. I will be replacing it with a standard 30 minute timer switch. In concept it is a great idea but in practice was not helpful for us.

              Defective Design and/or Manufacture
I tried two different switches, neither worked in my 5 ft x 8 ft bathroom. They would turn ON with low humidity (approx 40%) in the room and then not turn ON during a shower that steamed up the mirror (90% to 100% humidity); humidity measured with a hygrometer (i.e. humidity meter). Utterly defective product; defective design and/or manufacturing

                Tends to work
My in-laws have this switch in their guest bathroom on the first floor and it works great when someone is taking a shower. However, more often the bathroom is used for its toilet than its shower and this fan switch does not have a nose-like sensor. I kinda wish it did or that an automatic fan switch had a nose sensor so that I could have my husband suggest they replace this switch. This switch isn’t the most intuitive to manually turn on (it requires 3-4 presses of the button for the fan to manually turn on and the light blinks at random patterns) so a lot of times, you can also hear in the living room a guest doing their business which of course, no one wants to bring up. So please keep this in mind if you were thinking of using this in a guest bathroom next to a living room.

Purchased with hope it would turn on fan when grand-kids took showers without turning on fan. Installed with default settings in 6x8 bathroom. Switch would turn on when bathroom not in use and door closed. Changed Sensitivity to Med and false start issue was corrected. Took shower, without manually turning on fan. Mirror got steamed up and walls felt wet, but fan did not automatically turn on? Manually turned on fan and it turned of in about 10 minutes. Contacted Leviton and tech suggested using Mode 2, humidity set points. Said to call back for replacement if that didn't work. Set Humitistat to 20. Thought it odd that the fan did not switch on since humidity gauge in room read 55%? Took shower without manually turning on fan. Fan did not switch on. Contacted Leviton and explained what previous tech had suggested. This tech said to not use Mode 2. Suggested using Mode 1, with Sensitivity set to High if I wanted an to come on automatically when taking a shower. Suggested he have a nice day and hung up. Contacted Leviton again discussed behavior with tech. He took my name, address and switch color and said I would receive a new switch the following week. I suggested simply exchanging it at Home Depot, but he said it would be better if he sent one from their “Fresh Stock”? After 1 ½ weeks, returned switch to Home Depot for a refund. Prompt service. No questions asked. ** I would not recommend this product or manufacturer.

Easy to install, if you have a neutral (white) in the box. To adjust the settings you must take off the wall plate. Do yourself a favor and leave it off a couple of days while adjusting the sensor.
