A: Greetings Jenn! Thank you for your interest in the Exaco 187 gal. AeroQuick Compost Bin. This bin is secured in the center and has hinges on two sides. To open the compost bin, you would release the top hinge on one side and lift up the one side to add scraps.

Answer This Question
A: Yes, it contains smells very well. There ae small air vents to allow air in, but if you leave headspace above the compost mixture, bad smells are absorbed.

A: Interesting that you like to call it a bad smell - many find the smell to be a farm smell which they like. However, I have to assume you do you have a bad smelling one - there are reason this is possible: #1 you are throwing protein based items into the compost bin - please don't. You may not be adding enough brown waste (use shredded paper). But, the best way to control the smell is to use a Aerobin 400 - because of the way they work - they do not smell. A: General rule is: 2/3rd brown 1/3rd green (kitchen organic waste). A great material to use for brown is shredded paper. You can look on our website to see specific recommendations: www.exaco.com
