Q:How long will this product last in unopened gallon can? I have several cans that have never been opened but are several years old. When I tried to roll it on a metal roof that was pressure washed and completely dry it would not stick. Does it expire?

      Answer This Question

A:  Rick, you can usually store Henry 287 for at least 24 months. The adhesion problem may not be with the Henry 287. If this is a new roof the metal is sometimes coated at the factory with a clear sealer or plastic that causes adhesion to be a problem. You might try buying a one gallon bucket like Henry 587 Dura-Brite and do a few small adhesion tests to see if it is the old 287 or if the metal is coated.

Q:Can this product be used on rubber RV roofs?
        by|Apr 30, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Roger, if your question refers to an EPDM membrane as a rubber roof then we would not recommend that type of application. EPDM is a membrane similar to an inner tube and not many products adhere well to it. The only product that we would recommend for an EPDM roof would be Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone because of its outstanding adhesive qualities. Henry 887 forms a very strong chemical bond to the surface as opposed to the physical bond formed by acrylic coatings such as Henry 287 Solar-Flex. In addition Henry 887 is waterproof and has a lifetime warranty.

Q:Can I use on a regular pitched roof- not low slope?
          by|Apr 24, 2024
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  Annielee, as long as the roof does not have shingles you probably could apply Henry 287 to a pitched roof. You would need to apply it in many thin coats since it is a fairly thick product and would have a tendency to slump or run to the lowest point resulting in pooling at the bottom of the roof. We would not be able to warranty this type of application and it is not something that we would recommend doing.

Q:How many square feet does a 5 gallon bucket cover

            Answer This Question

A:  Tommy, the coverage rate of Henry 287 Solar-Flex is 100 square feet per gallon. If this is the first time you are coating the roof you will need to apply two coats to the surface. Apply the second coat perpendicular to the first coat or one coat north and south and the second coat east and west.

Q:can you use a Wagner sprayer to apply this? if so what size tip is used?
              by|Apr 11, 2024

              Answer This Question

A:  Robert, most paint sprayers, unless they are commercial rigs are not suited for spraying a roof coating since they are so thick. They are thick for a reason since with a roof coating you are not just putting a thin reflective covering on the roof, you are applying the product to a specific mil thickness to shield the roof from the penetrating UV rays of the sun. You would need a sprayer that can produce1,500 PSI, spray at 2 gallons per minute with a tip size of 0.30 to 0.40

Q:Can this be applied to new Grace Ice and water shield? If not, is there another Henry product that can be applied to that substrate?

                Answer This Question

A:  Brendan, Grace Ice and Water Shield is an underlayment and not the end product to the roofing surface. An actual roofing substrate must be applied as the finished product before Henry 287 Solar-Flex could be applied. Henry 287 should only be applied to AGED flat or low slope surfaces.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Butch, Henry 287 Solar-Flex is our economy grade white acrylic roof coating that is not designed for sealing pin holes. Henry 287 is formulated to reflect 85% of damaging UV rays and resists chalking, mildew and discoloration. For better weatherization you should consider our thickest white acrylic coating, Henry 587 Dura-Brite or even Henry 687 Enviro-White. For a waterproof coating you can use Henry 817 RoofGuard polyurethane coating or Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone.
