Q:Can this work on a torch down roof ? How much does it cool a home?
by|Mar 7, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Alina, you can apply Henry 287 to a torch down roof that has a granulated surface. If the surface is smooth you will need to apply Henry 107 Asphalt Emulsion prior to the application of Henry 287. Henry 287 is highly reflective as it reflects 86% of the sun's rays and 72% after 3 years. Applying Henry 287 can save more than $2,300 on cooling costs*. (Savings calculations are based on a 1,900 square foot building in Phoenix, AZ using the DOE Cool Roof Calculator).

Q:Will this work on an RV roof?
by|Feb 19, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: James, the only roof coating that we recommend for RVs, trailers, campers and motorhomes is Henry TropiCool 100% Silicone roof coating. The roofs of RVs experience additional stresses that a normal roof does not, such as excess movement, wind peel and wind lift. Because of these stresses the coating must create a very strong bond. Henry 887 forms a chemical bond to the roof as opposed to the weaker physical type bond that acrylic coatings do. I guess that is the long winded way of saying that Henry 287 should not be used to coat the roof of an RV.

Q:On a bare metal roof do I need to use a primer before applying this?
by|Feb 17, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Mike, traditionally no primer is needed for the application of Henry acrylic white roof coatings. You can apply a base coat of Henry 107 Asphalt Emulsion Sealer and Damp-proofer at the rate of 3 to 4 gallons per 100 square feet. The emulsion coat must be fully cured before applying the Henry 287, usually 3 to 7 good drying days.

Q:Can you paint over once it dried
by|Feb 8, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Justin, you probably could paint the Henry 287 Solar-Flex White roof coating but that would completely defeat the purpose of applying it in the first place. Henry 287 is designed to be very reflective in order to protect the roof from the sun's harmful UV rays and to cool the interior of the structure. As a side note, most paints contain hardeners and are usually not elastomeric, which could result in crazing or cracking.

Q:Is this ok for slide outs as well as roofs?
by|Jan 19, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Arizonajazz, from your comments we assume that you are planning to coat the roof as well as the sliders of a motorhome or RV. The only roof coating that we recommend for motorhomes, trailers and RVs is Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone because of it's particular bonding characteristics. Henry 887 forms a chemical bond that is much stronger than the physical bond that acrylic coatings such as Solar-Flex form. The stronger bond is needed due to the extra stresses that a moving roof encounters that stationary roofs don't have to deal with. Henry 887 is also waterproof whereas most of the acrylic coatings are not.
