Q:I would like to build a fence by using these boards. Could I use them in such an application? Would it be sufficient to set posts 8' apart? Or, should I use some smaller distance between the posts?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello David. It's possible, but we don't recommend it. Please do at your own risk. Just keep in mind that you will want to use the US44 End Fascia on the bottom surface of such an installation as a type of track (see http://www.newtechwood.com/siding.html#fascia). Additionally, you would want to use horizontal furring strips / joists. For breathability, you would also need breaks in the furring strips, of about 2’’ in length, every 16’’. These breaks can be in the form of perforation in the furring strips. Please if you have any further questions please email us at inquiry@newtechwood.com or call us at 281-570-6450.

A:  Hi, Elben. Yes, they can. While the NewTechWood US09 All Weather System siding is more often installed horizontally, vertical installation can be done, with some variation from the standard horizontal installation. You can learn more via this vertical installation guide video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8vZvC1Sm3I. Please feel free to email us at inquiry@newtechwood.com with any other questions you may have, or for further clarification, or for a sample.

Q:how many bundles needed for a 1800 sq ft home?

                    Answer This Question

A:  Hi, Scott. 1800 square feet of US09 siding would be 270 boards of 16 feet (192 inches). This would be just over 19 bundles of 14 boards. However, you can buy 49 piece bundles at well, so ordering that way, it would be just under 6 bundles of 49 boards. While you can order by the bundle through HomeDepot.com, you can order the exact amount through the Home Depot Pro-Desk, which may be a more precise avenue for purchasing. Please also note that this 270 quantity does not include overage, for which we would recommend 10%, or about another 30 boards or so. Please feel free to email us at inquiry@newtechwood.com with any other questions you may have, or for further clarification.

Q:Is 5.5 inches the real measured surface width of each piece - i.e. does each board span that visible width when installed? Or is it really less than that as so many lumber sizes are? Thank you.
