Very nice looking and reasonably quiet. More attractive than my last fan and just installed days ago. Easy to install per contractor. Overall very satisfied.

So far it's working fine. It does not come with a grommet for the wire so you'll need to get one. I reused the one from the fan I replaced that thankfully fit (don't skip it or the wire could be damaged and cause a fire). Takes regular bulbs but larger ones may be a tight fit. Some caveats: designed to be mounted to 2x6 or larger joists, so I had to cut a piece of wood to mount to the joist to mount the fan to, which left me having to patch a bit of the ceiling under the 2x6. It was a little warped so the fan is slightly angled. The grill however did cover the entire opening including the patch. The box was missing the reflector and bulb socket, but I called the number on the flyer in the box and they sent them for free (although it took two weeks).

Great Product. Very quiet!
I was nervous installing this as I never have done it before. But a few youtube videos later I knew I could do it. It came out great!

      Dumper is stuck open
Everyone who gave this product 5 stars, I recommend to do a smoke test while the fan is off. I had three of these installed in my house and all three had the same issue - the dumper was stuck open. Once it opens, its design prevents it from closing, which causes either sucking in cold air, or letting hot air out. I removed two of them from my bathrooms and inspected closely. The flap in the dumper is not correctly balanced and it's unable to go back to closed position once it opens. I "fixed" one of them by glueing a small metal nut to the edge of the flap, just to move the center of gravity a bit closer to the edge. It helped, the dumper closes now and my bathroom doesn't feel that cold anymore. Another one was replaced with a higher-end Broan model, with allegedly "improved dumper design". The so called "improved design" doesn't make the dumper close either. Before installing it, I glued a nut again. I have one more left to replace and I think I'll go with a different brand this time.

Hi Mariusz, Thank you for your review of model HB80RL. We are sorry to hear you are disappointed with this unit. The damper is counter balanced to stay slightly open. The reason behind that is the light function. Because we give the consumer the ability to operate the light separately from the fan on it's own switch, we had to have a way for the heat that would develop inside the housing escape. So with the damper slightly open, this allows the heat to escape. Please reach out to our Technical Team directly at 888-336-6151 if we can be of any assistance.

I replaced a10 yr old Broan 679L fan and the Nutone is much more quiet. The light cover is a nicer look. I have to solve a minor condensation drip problem that I now have, but overall the reduced sound level alone is worth buying this exhaust fan.

I owe my husband an apology
My husband installed this in our bathroom. He is not a handy man but he tries. It went surprisingly well, easy to replace the old one and no unexpected hassles. Here’s where it gets tricky. First time flipping it on in the morning and I thought, “he didn’t do this right. It’s not even running.” BUT IT WAS! It is so super quiet compared with our old fan that I seriously didn’t even know it was on. It’s done a great job fighting the clouds upon clouds of steam generated by four daughters who have never heard the term “water conservation.” The only drawback: it may be too quiet to cover up embarrassing bathroom noises. Great value, easy install, super improvement for us.

Just installed. Good quality product. Met my expectations. Installation was a little challenging since I replaced an existing fan. Had no access from above the ceiling. To minimize ceiling dry wall cutting, I removed the side hangers and attached new fan with screws through holes I drilled in the unit’s side wall. And, the unit’s duct attachment size was slightly larger than the existing flex duct. I opened up the existing duct’s attachment point by making several diagonal cuts at the end of the existing duct. Then taped the two pieces together with duct tape. Solution worked fine.

I was looking for an easy way to add a light with the exhaust fan. I was extremely pleased with the cover and now I don't need to turn the light plus the exhaust fan, it all one switch now.

Check details on your old fan first!
This was a great upgrade on the very loud original fan in a small bathroom. This one loud enough to know it’s on which I like, but quiet enough too. More efficient than old one, too. I like that you can select bulb type on this model. An LED bulb works fine with no buzz. If you are replacing an existing fan, I suggest you pay attention to where the duct and electrical connections are first, and compare to where they are on this model. I had to modify the 4 inch pipe with an aluminum flex piece since the connection was on a different side on this model. And the wire connection was also a few inches longer to a corner on this model. My house wire just made it without modifying. So I had to spend considerable time in the attic in installing this. If you are replacing an existing fan and don’t have attic access this fan probably won’t work for you unless the design of the old fan is the same.

I got this fan a few weeks ago when my bathroom fan started "squealing" occasionally. i did not want to crawl in the attic until cooler days prevailed, but last week it finally gave up the ghost. So, on a not too scorching Saturday morning I got the nerve to climb up in the attic to replace the fan. Installation was fairly easy, due to the fact, as I discovered, that the previous owner never attached the fan to the ceiling. It was just sitting over the hole. Because of this, I had to screw a 2x4 brace between the rafters, as I wanted to use the existing opening and did not want to reposition the fan. The fan does come with tabs to bend out which would normally set the fan flush with a 1/2" ceiling, unfortunately someone had put an extra layer of sheetrock on the ceiling and I could not use them. You can see the tab and my solution in the picture attached. Once I had the fan flush and level with the ceiling, I could attach the 2x4 between the rafters and attach the fan housing to it. The fan has several attachments and is designed for old work, new work, and as in my case, remodel work. Apart from working in the confined space installation was simple. Once installed the light kit and vent cover was attached with a single nut. The light kit has two holes which gives additional flexibility to the placement and orientation of the finished look. The wiring provides the ability to switch the fan and light independent of each other, or just tie the leads together to use one switch for both. (blue& black and whites together) We put a 10 watt LED (60W equivalent) and it gives a decent amount of light for a small 8'x5' bathroom. Using LED's you could always increase the bulb output if you need more light. The only downside I have with this unit, is common to most of this type. The outlet vent comes out the side and is designed, I guess, for a sidewall exhaust. You need either a 90 degree bend or enough room to insert a flex pipe if you are venting through a roof. It would be nice if there was a knock out to do so, much like a range hood has. Finally, the fan is whisper quiet. I walk by the bath and can only tell the fan is on because the light is on also. It's a nice product.

I wanted to a an exhaust fan to our laundry room in the basement so I selected this one. I am pleased with its quietness and power of pulling the air out. My wife air dries most of our clothes by hanging them up in the basement, so along with our dehumidifier and now this exhaust fan we should be able to balance out the air downstairs. I am happy with this unit.

For the money, this is a very good value. Like most others, I ordered this to replace a 13yr old light/vent fan. The installation went smooth. The top connection was not a issue since this was installed in a drop down ceiling, allowing plenty of room to work. What was nice about this unit is that each component [the fan motor and light] are separate, each with their own plug. After installing it I place a paper towel over the unit with it on and it held the towel on the unit showing a very sufficient draw of air. The bathroom is small and generates a LOT of humidity from showering with the old fan. Not anymore, this fan kept up with the steam and the mirror never even fogged up.

This NuTone fan is priced right for what it is and it is suitable for a small bathroom. At 80 CFM it is capable of removing odors and moisture from the air in smaller bathrooms. Although there is nothing “wrong” with it, there are better fans out there for a similar price or just a bit more. At 2.5 sones, it’s as loud as they get for a new bathroom exhaust fan. Not terribly loud, but definitely noticeable from outside of the bathroom. I’d recommend going between 1-2 sones or below if the price is right. Although the install is straight forward and the damper is included, a simple light bulb was not included. The fan can be wired to work from a single switch or be two separate switches for the light and fan. This fan is set up to work with one regular size bulb, incandescent (up to 100W) or almost any CFL or LED. No night light options in this model. In order to install / replace the lightbulb a flat-head screwdriver is needed to remove the opaque lens. The light “reflector” is white instead of being a metallic color or lined with foil to actually reflect. The Home Depot product page mentions that it has a brushless motor while it is not mentioned anywhere on the box or the manufacturers website. Lastly, it is not Energy Star. So again, nothing wrong with this fan it works as advertised, I just cannot recommend it based what I stated above.

The NuTone 80 CFM Ceiling Bathroom Exhaust Fan with Light is a surprisingly quiet bathroom exhaust fan. I installed this in one of our bathrooms, replacing an older and much louder bathroom fan. It installs very easily. When I installed this in the bathroom , I located it a little closer to the center of the room and I replaced the duct work also. Now I have some drywall to spackle and paint.

This 80 CFM CEILING BATHROOM EXHAUST FAN WITH LIGHT works pretty well. There is no humidity while taking a shower so it works just fine. The light feature on it is nice because the other lighting that is in the bathroom isn't always bright enough. I would recommend this product for the light attachment with the echaust fan. I would recommend it for smaller bathrooms though since it only has 80 CFM.

Needed to replace a 10-year old original, cheapo Contractor grade ceiling mounted bath fan that just started getting noisy. Looked around at fans to install for under $100.00. NuTone fans have a good reputation for quality products, and have been around forever. Settled upon this fan, being 2.5 sones, this fan would be quiet enough to not disturb anyone, yet just loud enough to let you know it's running. Installation was not that difficult with the exception of having the wiring on top of the unit. This made it slightly more difficult to connect...But not overly complicated. It was actually harder getting the old unit out, then installing this one. Overall, the unit installed fine, looks great, and does it's job. Highly Satisfied and highly recommended.

Nice quiet bathroom exhaust fan that also gives off plenty of light. I replaced my dirty, noisy bathroom exhaust fan with this 80 CFM ceiling bathroom exhaust fan with light which was a total improvement to my old one. I did not have to cut the plaster in the ceiling because this one was a perfect fit to my old one. The directions are very easy to follow and to apply. Putting in the new one did not take long at all since the exhaust hook-up and wiring was exactly the same. This new exhaust ceiling fan and light brightened up my bathroom ceiling along with the entire bathroom. The materials are of good quality and runs quiet.

Good exhaust fan for a small bathroom. Our bathroom isn't too big so this 80 CFM fan was good enough. Nice little light option, also. I screwed in a 40 watt LED bulb which isn't too bright but good enough since there are other lights in the bathroom. The 40 is a nice bonus and not too bright for night time use. The fan ins't too loud but it could be quieter but you'll pay a lot more for that.

Light is nice and bright so I can enjoy the blue walls in my bathroom. Fan is soooo much quieter than the one that was replaced. The person who did the replacement has some challenges, since the old fan was from 1984. Product is great!
