works for DIY
I'm a DIY'er. my driveway has many cracks and because of finances I cannot replace it so I'm attempting to preserve. I have tried cold crack filler, pli stix , hot melt over banding tape and this stuff. forget the cold crack fillers and caulk! out of all the hot crack fillers this is the most economical and easiest to apply. I wish I would have tried this first. I used a 1500 watt hot plate a stainless steel carafe to heat it. I then sat a 3" x 1.5" rubber Fernco reducing coupling over crack and poured hot sealant into it, dragging it along crack. it worked out perfect.

    SEEMS GREAT SO FAR
This comes in two 25 lb blocks. After freezing the blocks you can shatter them with a hammer. I melted the pieces in a teapot on a camp stove. It is messy. I bent the teapot spout so a small stream could be poured into the cracks. I used a propane torch to reflow the sealant for a smooth surface. It is a lot of work. I have tried many other crack sealants and they all crack before winter is over, so I had to remove all those layers. This seems pliable enough to last. In the hot sun, it is soft but not sticky. This is the cheapest sealant that I have found so far and at this point seems to be the very best. In the spring, I'll know if it was all worth it.

    Response from THD-Customer ServiceAug 18, 2014
Dear Dave, We have reached out to the MFG for more information and their response is below. "Thank you for purchasing our PL 500 - this product is meant to be applied using a direct fire or oil jacketed kettle for both performance and safety reasons. The methods in which this consumer applied the product are not recommended as handling the material in this way is dangerous and can cause servere burns".

Used an old steel 16 gallon barrel and a turkey frier. Once melted it worked better than expected and went way further than I imagined. Highly recommend.

Other than it being a little difficult to break down the two pieces of tar to fit into a large pan to melt down for pouring, I found the product GREAT for filling in cracks large and small and not leaving a gap between the two sides of the crack like the cold pour sealant would.

Great product. Melted smoothly and filled cracks like butter.Wish the product was in 10 lb slices instead of one large block.

42 year old mom here —looked at reviews to try to figure a way to fix cracks in asphalt without breaking the bank. I froze this stuff in my outdoor freezer for 24 hours before taking an axe to it. I used an outdoor propane burner and a stock pot from goodwill to melt the stuff. The smaller chunks you are able to cut the quicker it melts. Then I used an old coffee cup to dip into the pot then poured into the cracks. So far so good. We will see how it holds up through winter (In NC so generally mild).
