After some recent plumbing issues, I wanted to eliminate the worry of returning home from vacation to damage from an unchecked water leak. This product removes the worries. Takes a bit of time to find and go through the settings. Couldn't fill my Hot Tub without the water being shut off. A shower was ended earlier than desired. But these are all GOOD! Shows that it works. It's on me now to get the setting right. Well worth the investment!

IMPORTANT! Find a plumber with experienced installing these devices. Ask him for references. Expect to pay around $1000. The device works perfectly. The micro leak monitoring is great when the kids don’t shut off the water after washing their hands. The water temperature monitoring is great too in freezing weather conditions. The water volume limit is great too which triggers a water shut off during heavy laundry days. The customer service department is responsive, typically within 24 hours. Great product so far.

Grohe is the best, only product I use!
In comparison to its competitors, it is extremely well made. Unlike its competitors, the threads are brass not plastic. I just had it installed and so far so good. I just wish the app is a bit more intuitive.

Excellent for piece of mind!
I have been using the GROHE Sense Guard Smart Water Controller for a couple of months now. I waited to review it, until I could adequately report on the features. We installed a bypass for the unit which I do recommend. The controller seems to work well and has a setting for usage which we have adjusted based on how much usage the home was expecting. The modifications to settings are made via an app which is easy to use. I did have an instance when I forgot to update the settings for a high use visitor and the water did turn off for them prematurely (though as settings required). The controller is great for possible leaks to avoid excessive damage of water running for hours, or days unnoticed. The instance when I forgot to change the setting, our guest was able to go to the unit and use the bypass to get water running normally. I later adjusted the settings via the app remotely and the unit was put back into work. The controller does what it sets out to do and does it well. The installing plumber agreed that it seems to be an excellent product and installation was easy. Know that an electric outlet is necessary nearby to the unit. Check the pick size for your configuration to confirm compatibility. We reduced from a one inch pipe to 3/4 inch with no noticeably loss in pressure. Thanks Grohe for an excellent product!

    Elegant design, works well
Having suffered a toilet leak while away 6 years ago that did $66,000 in damage to our build I am acutely aware of need for protection. The Guard combined with a bunch of Sense units is working very well. I used this to replace a much more expensive leak prevention system because I wanted smart, cloud enabled, remotely accessible system. Was please to discover that it is Nest aware and now water shut off and turn on integrated with Nest Away/Home sensing. This is a great product. Only suggestion is that the Ondus app should take into account rental management situations. I’d like to enable to have my rental manger have access, alerts, etc. under a separate login than mine so he could track multiple “buildings.”

I like the function of this product and the features it has. The water consumption and shut-off is great peace of mind. Mounting location is something to strongly consider. I ended up having to mount mine vertical, which they show is just fine. I would suggest it for anyone who doesn't have easy access to the shut-off valve for your house during vacations, etc. My only concern is that mounting vertically seems to allow it to slowly leak out of the top of the unit itself, not the fittings. I've aligned, re-aligned, checked torque on connections, and after an hour you can come back and see 1 or 2 drops of water on top of unit next the plastic shell.

I feel like I've got a lot to learn about this system. That's because it went very easily, almost too good to be true so I question myself on this one. The app is very easy to work with. I did have issues while trying to set up the account but perseverance paid off and I got it up and running. From my iPhone I can turn the water on or off. That'll be great for any plumbing projects I'll tackle over the years. No more looking for the water shut off in the front yard and no more need for using the water key unless I get a problem with the line coming to the Sense Guard. I've tested the controller on/off with success via the phone. Once I cut the main coming into the crawlspace, I used Sharkbites to connect the guard. It was a pain to get the app up and running but I got through it. Y also need to think of a power source near the guard. I ran an extension cord to get it up and running but I will be running a dedicated circuit into my crawlspace. That'll help with the Christmas lights outside too. After installing, I turned on 2 hose bibs and let them run wide open. It didn't trip the alarm on the Guard. I'll play with that a bit more until I'm convinced it will work. I'll follow up if it doesn't work so if you don't see an update, you can rest easy knowing it worked great. I've included a few photos but I can't get one of the guard after installations. I won't take my camera or phone undr the house. It's way too messy under there to take electronics. The photos are of the pre-installed Guard and a screen shot of the app working. Great item that I will be recommending to my friends, neighbors and you guys

The piece of mind that the Grophe sense guard provides is great. No longer do I need to worry about my house flooding due to a water line break or a slow leak. The app works great too. I can see my system temperature, water pressure, and daily water consumption. In the event of a power outage the valve stays open, so you still have water. Every night it tests for a slow water leak. The instructions state a professional installer is required for installation. I consider myself as such and proceeded with installation. The installation video on the manufacturers website really helped clear some stuff up for me. I had to ad a house filter and a shut off after the sense guard for maintenance. Pretty straight forward.

      Very Disappointed
Very poor connectivity even after locating WiFi signal boost within 4 feet. Should be designed to use 5G WiFi like other connected items in the home. Also, device failed to pick up a drip from a loose connection under sink that destroyed cabinet and damaged drywall below. Can’t trust it and regret the $ spent. GROHE should be so much better. Now looking for something better!

        Unstable Device and App
I have had the Sense Guard and three Sense "pucks" for five months. The devices were professionally installed. From the outset the devices and the related App have a bit wonky and unstable yielding frequent false messages, system shutdowns and frozen screens. I have re-installed the App five+ times and sometimes everything works fine for a week or so, but then becomes unstable again. Unclear if the devices are faulty or the App is just not functioning as designed.

Continually received false high consumption alerts
I was really looking forward to using the Grohe Guard and three Sense "pucks" as my wife and i planned to spend more time in our vacation home; unfortunately, i cannot recommend anyone purchase this product. I had the Guard unit professionally installed in our primary home in Feb 2020 including a bypass. I then had the local Grohe rep come to my home to properly configure the Guard and Sense "pucks" to my WiFi so I am confident everything was installed correctly. The Grohe rep assured me that after a week or two when the Grohe Guard "learned" our water consumption pattern, I would not receive false alerts. Between Feb 2020 and now (Sept 2020), however, I received at least one false high consumption alert weekly. Since we were in the primary residence at the time, i knew how much water we were consuming, and because I could quickly turn the water back on via the handy phone app, i chalked-up these false alerts to a minor bug Over the past two weeks, I began receiving false high consumption alerts hourly. I first confirmed with the Grohe rep that my unit was operating on the latest software version, and after another day or two of hourly false alerts, I turned-off and bypass the unit.

This sensor and controller monitors your normal water usage, and if there is a leak, the sensor detects it based on an abnormal water usage pattern, and then lets you know AND shuts off your water if there is a major leak. It’s worked well for me and sent me notifications a couple of times when a leaky toilet had a slow leak. The installation was not super easy, but that’s because I have galvanized rather than copper pipes. With copper, all you do is cut it and there are quick couplings (compression fittings). With galvanized pipes, we had to retrofit by cutting out a section of pipe and then add threads to install this unit.

Highly recommend this product for older homes or unoccupied properties to monitor for potential burst pipes. The app is marginal at best - difficult to use - but only minimal interaction is required after setup. I had a lot of difficulty in setup in getting the unit to connect to wifi. I contacted customer support but didn't hear back for multiple days - and then it was a contact from the app development company not Grohe. Past installation difficulties, I really appreciate the piece of mind this device provides.

The Sense Guard Water Controller is a great concept, especially for people who live in areas prone to cold weather where pipes burst, but can also be used for older homes with older pipes prone to cracks. This product detects burst pipes, leakages, and frost risk. It really helps to have someone familiar with these types of products to do the installation. It was a challenge finding reputable installers to do the job. The water sensor works by an app on a smart device. If you dislike smart technology this product may not be the best sensor for you. Wi-Fi connection is required in order for this product to work properly. After going through the hassle of installing I felt it was not the best product for my household because we are not prone to pipe bursts although any home I suppose could be prone to pipe leakage. Again, it's a very good product, but highly recommended for homes in areas where extreme weather conditions causes water pipe issues. The app is very easy to use, and easy to install on any smart device. Product comes with a 2-year warranty. Sensors not included.

Wow I love love love my new Grohe Sense Guard Smart Water Controller. It really gives me the peace of mind because it constantly monitor my water, pressure, water temperature, daily consumption. The best of all, it detects frost and water leak, whether it is a line leak or a slow leak. They have a installation video on their website. I found it very helpful. And their app is pretty easy to use as well.

I wish I saw this product sooner.. I had a leaky toilet on a rental unit which ended up reflecting on the water bill. This product prevents most of the water damage that could happen from a burst pipe or money being wasted from anything that simply leaks into the sewer. Allowing automatic or remote control of the water coming into the house gives me full control and peace of mind on my investment and is much easier than dealing with water damage and insurance companies. I got a plumber to install it and do a full test with me there. Had to connect the Sense Guard to Wi-Fi prior to installation to make sure it works to prevent removal / replacement in case of a faulty unit. Luckily I have a power outlet within reach as the system does need to be plugged in. The entire system is also reliant on Wireless to be available in order to be connected and managed through the app. However in case of a power outage, the water flow remains on. The Grohe UNDUS app is straight forward and has water On/Off, pressure, temp and consumption info available at my fingertips. No more can the town misrepresent the usage numbers! In case of a water issue multiple alerts can be activated and sent to the app, along with LED indicators and beeps sounding from the device. Overall, I am happy with the peace of mind that this product provides. I’m sure in the future these will become the norm and be a bit more affordable to the average consumer.

I got this mainly to detect high water consumption. My neighbor has one and was able to detect he left the garden hose on and it alerted of higher than usual consumption, so I wanted to get something that would do that too. I travel for work and leave my house vacant a lot and can't shut off the water so I feel safer with this being installed so it alerts me if there's a leak so I don't come to a flooded house. The installation looks easy for a plumber, but I wouldn't try installing myself so I hired a plumber. It was worth getting it installed correctly. The app was easy to set up, but I don't know how to test it to see if a real leak will alert me, but I did notice the water consumption going up as we used the dishwasher and washing machine, so at least I know the app works fine.

If you are a plumber or have a plumber friend then this will definitely work for you since it is recommended that you have it professionally installed. It's not your typical homeowner DIY project since it does require plumbing and possible electrical outlet connection. The sense guard smart water controller is really advance since it "learns" about your everyday water usage and alerts you if your usage is out of normal. It can completely shut off your water so there is no leakage if you have a major leak.

            Fantastic Features
Really looked forward to using this device as having a vacation home that I visit only occasionally but have automatic landscape irrigation keeping me from shutting off water when out, I live in fear of a pipe rupture that would flood my cabin causing 1000’s of dollars of damage. All looked good, but I could not get the WiFi signal to work, which kept me from being able to plug it into my network and have communications with it. Tried many times over several days, but nothing. Too bad as it looks like a really neat unit.

Peace of mind in a box
This is one of these things that you get hoping that you never have to use. I had it installed and thankfully I haven't had any problems with pipes freezing or bursting yet, but with this thing and the humidity sensor connected to my phone, I am comfortable spending my winter in Florida, knowing that my house in NJ is under control, and if anything freezes, I can remotely shut the water off, and not have to worry that I would come back to a flooded house and a huge water bill. I hope it never has to work, but the peace of mind is worth it, and if it ever works, it will pay for itself in a single use.

                Peace of mind
I live in the northeast and have a well and oil heat. I travel frequently for work and often worry about leaks or pipes freezing. This product gives me peace of mind knowing that if anything happens, I will be alerted promptly and damages will be minimized. This is a small price to pay for reassurance given the typical damages associated with water leaks especially in a fully furnished basement.

                  Fantastic Informant! needs slight adjustments
After having installed this product over a month a ago, I wanted to give this product some time to adjust to/learn my system to see what it was cable of. Everything seems to work great as far as the controller goes. I feel more secure when I leave my house that I can remotely shut off the main water supply and monitor my system. If your Controller is in the basement, like mine is, you will need a strong WiFi signal throughout your house to be able to use the functions. For Installation- Very easy for a DIY install if you have some basic plumbing knowledge. However, depending on your pipes and location needs, you might need to purchase the mounting bracket separately, not included with the product (not clearly indicated, "needed" or "sold separately"). Extremely upsetting to find out you need a special ordered bracket while in the middle of your install, thus leaving your water system in jeopardy (so heavy it could break your pipes and leaving you with "off measurements"). For the Application portion of this product it seems that some software updates need to be made. 1. Every time I receive a notification from the Grohe Ondus App the language is in German and cannot be changed or updated; I have checked all my settings on my phone and tablet. I have them connected to my Grohe system and can confirm both phone and tablet receive notifications in German only (It is not just a "my phone only" thing), despite selecting "English" during the initial set-up process. This isn't a deal breaker as when you open the actual application the notification is half english and half german, so at least you can gain an idea of what it's trying to tell you. However, had I paid for this system- I might be singing a different tune! 2. I did have a small water flow detected and possible leak (Ended up being the faucet wasn't turned off all the way-small drip). When opening the message in the app, there is a "Help" button for troubleshooting/locating the leak yourself. I love this feature! However, as mentioned above- the first paragraph is in English and the rest of the troubleshooting tips were in German. 3. The "gallons used per day" offered on the app can use some adjustment. The daily tally does not have a reset. For example, if you use ten gallons on day one, you will wake up on day two with "10 gallons used," (despite no water used yet) and your first gallon that day used will start at "11 total." It would be nice it the daily total reset to zero every 24 hours and perhaps offered a different tally of "lifetime use" simultaneously. 4. Another complaint is that once you select "mark as read" on a message in the app, that message will disappear and will be gone forever as there are no archives for messages and you will be never be able to refer back to them.

                    Great Feature
Great Sensor and lots of automated detect and shut off feature. You do need a plumbing to install. Once installed, the rest is easy. Hopefully, you never really see the feature functioning. But when it does, it will help any further damage since it will shut off the water pipe immediately and it shows on your smart phone app. Together with other Grohe Sensor.

A great device to protect against water leaks!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As we were already in the midst of a repiping project for our home, the Grohe Sense Guard seemed like a perfect addition to bring smart technology to our plumbing system. Prior to installing the Sense Guard unit, I installed a water pressure gauge in the main water pipe just after the water meter to make sure the pressure in our system was within the range specified in the installation manual. I also installed a whole house sediment filter in the line per the instructions, so that any sediment would be filtered out prior to reaching the Sense Guard unit. I then installed the Sense Guard unit and found that it installed easily without any problems. I added the unit to the Grohe ONDUS app on my smartphone, which I already had after recently installing a Grohe Sense Leak Sensor in our basement. The Grohe Sense Guard monitors regular daily water consumption, and guards against both very minute and major leaks (burst pipes). The unit can cutoff the water supply in the event of a major leak and will send an immediate alert to your smartphone. I was able to test the unit for both a very small leak and a simulated burst pipe and the unit detected both situations, working as advertised to cutoff the water and send an alert. The Grohe Sense Guard gives us piece of mind knowing that we now have a smart device monitoring our water supply system that can stop the water flow in the event of an emergency, even when we are away from home. We definitely recommend the the Grohe Sense Guard.

Advanced Install but Great Product for Future
Had to hire somebody to install, product seems great, hasn't seen any action and hopefully it stays that way for a long time. The plumber we hired seemed really interested in the product and wanted us to give feedback. Seems like they get plenty of work fixing leaks that would be prevented using this product and his company has been looking for something to offer clients as a proactive step. Seems like this product definitely has a future.

                            Great Idea for Vacation Home
I plan on installing this in our second home, and love the concept. If there were a water break it would be days, weeks or months before we learned about it. At this time we have not installed it yet, and I am a little anxious about cutting it in. The only down side I see is it does not look like there is a battery backup, so if the power is out and a pipe breaks I'm not sure if it would shut off the water and just not be able to notify you, or if the pipe wouldn't be shut off until the power was back on, or if there is a reboot that needs to be manually accessed for the unit to work after a power outage event.
