The insulation was fine, the machine left much to be desired. It was not adjustable as per the instructions, and the hoses were a mess of duct tape.

The insulation was great and easy to install. The issue is Home Depot. They offer free 24 hour tool rental with this purchase. However no local Home Depots carry this tool anymore. No one can explain why so I had to drive an hour to pick up the tool. This was very frustrating.

While the finished results are good, the blowing process was awful. 1 Day of work became 3. There was pieces of ropes, and denim jeans mixed in with this product. For every 30 minutes of running the blower, we had to spend about 1 hour emptying the machine by hand, then disassembling it to remove the clogs caused by poorly screened product. There was even a ziploc bag and blue latex glove inside one of the packages of cellulose.

This was awesome stuff, I blew in my basement ceiling before finishing, I filled the 12” gap completely and the sound dampening is amazing, and the heat retention as well. Great stuff!!

I’m not an expert in blowing in insulation but once I got past connecting the three segments of hoses that came with the blower and started blowing the insulation in my attic for about 30 minutes I kind of got a feel for how to work the material. It is very dusty just like everybody else says.

Definitely a 2 person job. Both people have to be wearing practical masks at minimum. Get fairly dusty. I've noticed the difference in the ac not working as hard. Have not received my first light bill yet, but no doubt it made a huge difference inside the house.

The product blew in quite easily with the machine. It is very dusty both for the person feeding the hopper and for the person with the hose blowing it in. I highly recommend using a respirator. Downside was that I could only order it by the pallet and military discounts don’t apply online.

This was the single best thing I have done for my home in years. This stuff is messy. I was glad I had coveralls, goggles, and a respirator. As others have said, this is a two person job. One feeding the machine and the other spraying the insulation. Machine rental was free for 24hrs.

My attic work was three parts. My house is 15 years old, we have lived in it less than 2 years . After the move I noticed in the attic many of the fiberglass bats over the ceiling vaults were falling over and not secured well. So a year later I decided it was time . I was going to just go cheep and buy 10 bags and blow them into the attic because the cellulose stuff had settled a lot. In some places you could see the 2x4 joists . I did some reading and found attic foil for inside the roof joists . I put the attic foil up ( Ordered off internet place starts with A ) . It was very labor intensive but I live in the south and the attic stays hot 3 seasons. I also cleaned up all my soffits so they had good air flow. Last I ordered a pallet of greenfiber cellulose and blew it in . I would have got the low dust in hindsight. I had a 10% off coupon if I use my charge with free shipping. The day comes for delivery and the truck driver is whining that he can't get into the subdivision. One wonders how on earth they get that truck into a new development, maybe he shouldn't be driving a truck. Then the wife says she can pick it up at the store, Then she went to pick it up a few days later. No one at the store knew where it could be. Then she has to get a little HOT with them to get them to help her load a half ton pallet on our trailer. The depot free rental blower has a short hose. It probably won't reach way back in the attic if you only have one access. My attic isn't that big, it is a ranch house It needed a 3 prong twist cord (not included LOL). More saving more doing, is there slogan. It should be this is a retail store and where else are you gonna go. It seems 2 weeks later the heat is running less, But it is Feb. right now. It should all make a difference. May the force be with you.

I did not know how toxic and useless this insulation was until I talked with the experts. #1. It Attracts Mice and insects - Rats and Mice love to chew on it. #2. If you have a leak in a rain storm and it gets wet it releases a Gas that can get in your home and make you sick. #3. After About Ten Years it turns into paper dust and has no or little insulation value. #4 It can not be sprayed above recessed lighting or around fire places because it will burn and can cause a fire. In the long run it is Hazardous to your health and well being. That is why High Grade Fiberglass is the choice of insulators.

Attic insulation Why did I choose this product? - Honestly, because this is the cheapest option by far. In comparison, there are no major differences between the insulations in terms of overall quality, so there is no drawback of being cheap. My second best option was rockwool for better quality of material (like better fire rating), and batts are easier to install and move later, but it is way more expensive. I still used some rockwool though, close to light fixtures and chimneys (wherever it can get hotter), to close unwanted gaps at soffit baffles and in part of the attic which I use for storage so the thickness of insulation is limited. However I like how this loose fill insulation fills all the small gaps without any special attention. How much to buy? - To calculate the amount required we found 3 different method. There is a table on the package (and on website) showing how much you need for any given R value for 1000sqft adjusted for framing. Also the package tells you how much it covers as an individual package. Also there is a calculator on greenfiber.com. All gave different results, so we took the highest (the calculator on greefiber.com), and added a few bags on the top of that just to be sure. More insulation never hurts. We ended up having the equivalent of 50 package (1 pallet, and we found a couple in store as a separate purchase) of this 30lbs bags for 1100sqft, and a target of R38 minimum. (based on the final thickness, it ended up at around R41) Ordering and delivery - It was easy, I ordered it on the website, and it was delivered a week later in good conditions. No tears or cuts on the packaging. I recommend putting them immediately to protected space, even if it seems to be wrapped well, because it is sensitive for rain and moisture. Preparation - This was the hardest part of the project, so I recommend planning to spend the most time and research on it. Old insulation needs to be inspected and removed. All gaps at walls/joints/pipes/chimneys needs to be closed airtight properly with insulation foam (like Great Stuff), or custom cut boards. Soffit baffles needs to be installed to keep the attic vented. Doing all of it in my free time in the evenings and weekends, it took me about 2 weeks to prepare. I recommend doing an energy assessment by a 3rd party company first, it is not expensive, and they give a lots of information even if you DIY. The job - This was the easiest part. We rented the Greenfiber machine (it comes free with the purchase), and it was working as expected. The easier role is to hold the hose and direct the flow, the harder is to feed the machine and try not to clog it up. It WILL clog up eventually, but it is managable. We didn't measure, but it was about 10-20% downtime to declog it. It took close to 8 hour for 2 of us to feed all 50 bags (30lbs) into it including these downtimes and some breaks to rest. For even distribution, I recommend splitting up the space into roughly equal smaller areas, calculate how many bags it needs, and blow it all there before moving on. It will prevent having unused leftover bags, and no way to go back into the farthest corner to add it evenly. I knew I need to add for example 2 bags for the 25ft X 16 inch are between 2 joists so I blowed it all in, then moved to the next joist. I saw so many examples on the internet where it looked like the mountains of the Rockies, while mine ended up to be nice and flat. Comparison with the "green stuff" - After buying the amount I need, I found that the regular in-store Greenfiber (the one with green packaging) is discounted a lot. It was dirt cheap, so I bought whatever fitted into my car (8 bags), because with this price, any additional insulation has a good ROI. It gave me a good chance to compare the 2 types. And I really didn't find any difference. The green one is advertised as "low-dust". Really the amount of dust is the same, so don't expect to wear less protection or less cleaning after the job. However the dust is visibly "heavier", meaning it settled much faster. The significance of it is mostly the visibility in attic during installation. Crawling in the tight corners with headlamp, I often didn't see anything from the dust, and with the low-dust version I only needed to wait a couple of seconds to settle a bit and see my work. Also my partner reported that it was easier to fed into the machine, and clogged less. On the other hand, the all-borate version has fewer types of chemicals, so less risky. Other than that, I didn't see any difference, which would be singificant in long term, so buy wichever is available at the moment, and cheaper.
