Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, Thank you for the review that you posted for the Johnson Hardware Soft Close and Open 1500 28 in. to 36 in. x 80 in. Steel Upright Universal Pocket Door Frame which you purchased. In your comments you stated, “The steel studs are 1-1/2 by 1/2 in. In the picture they look proportionately larger which would make sense to be strong and not flex. However the small flimsy ones it came with make it so [you] the wall flexes if any pressure is applied to the center of the wall.” Our new All-Steel Studs have been tested to be more rigid overall (20%) than our steel-wrapped wood studs. They also allow for 1-3/4" thick doors without needing an additional adapter kit, and will not warp. Three qualities in a pocket door frame that are consistently asked to be improved upon are rigidity, clearance and warping. Our change to the All-Steel Studs actually improves upon all three. As far as the flexing of your wall, the type of casing and split jambs used will affect wall strength. Also, you might want to look in to our 1515-PLY Plywood Reinforcement Clip Set. It works with our frames to allow you to flush mount plywood between the studs, which adds 80% more rigidity.
