Hello. We do make a line of wire-free alarms that interconnect using a radio frequency if your house is not wired with a 3 wire smoke alarm circuit for interconnection. If you are talking about the wiring harness needing to be changed, The new wiring harness was changed to increase the ease of installation and reduce the size needed inside the mount for UL 9th ed requirements. Legacy wiring needs more room and this new one slides in from the side, locking into place (it also locks the battery compartment for applicable models). This also helps in enabling a direct connection to the board, saving more room. It is also a safety feature as well because of the AC connection locking feature. The new models require pushing the release tab before removing the AC connection, so you cannot change batteries while connected to AC power (a new UL requirement).
