Worked perfectly to bring attic light to code.

I HAD THESE GUARDS ( LEVITON- YELLOW COLOR ) IN MY FORMER HOME 30 YEARS AGO AND THEY WERE OF GOOD QUALITY, MUST HAVE BEEN MADE IN AMERICA THEN, I RECENTLY PURCHASED 5 OF THESE TO INSTALL ON ATTIC LIGHTING IN A NEW HOME. INSTALLING THE VERY FIRST ONE THE SNAP LOCK BROKE OFF WHEN CLOSING. ( NOT ENOUGH PLASTIC AT THE HINGE SECTION ) PROBABLY MADE IN CHINA FOR A COST SAVINGS AT THE COST OF QUALITY. I RETURNED ALL OF THEM TO HD TODAY FOR A REFUND. LEVITON, WON'T IT BE BETTER AND MORE COST EFFECTIVE TO MAKE A QUALITY PRODUCT THAT WHEN YOU SOLD IT THAT IT WASN'T RETURNED.

Okay Home Depot - you got me. I've been had. I was feeling good about the Husky shelving unit; got this as an impulse buy to protect the bulb in the shed I just got wired for electric. I should've just thrown $3.50 out the car window and saved time. This is a total POS. Pure garbage. The "latch" broke off with very little pressure. I had just installed and was "latching" for the very first time. Get these things out of your store and have some dignity.

I bought five of them and after installing two and breaking the plastic snap that keeps it closed, I returned the rest. I'm keeping the the two halves of the broken ones together with wire.

This guard broke within 48 hours of installation when accidentally hit by a tennis ball. I would not recommend this product. Very cheaply made.

Most of the poor reviews are by people who don't follow directions. If you install the adapters first, as instructed, the rest of the installation is easy. This cover provides a latch which makes it easy to replace a bulb if necessary. really nice design.

Perfect light bulb cover for basement and garage spaces

The pre-drilled holes in the mounting bracket are too small, and I could not tighten the bulb guard. The bracket screws are also poor quality as the heads strip too easily. I could have drilled out the holes myself and used different screws, but I shouldn't have to fuss over an item like this right out of the package. Did not install.

I found these guards to be very flimsy and difficult to use.They did not fit properly and made it difficult to open them to replace the bulbs. I returned these and bought some thatwere heavier duty.

Very difficult to attach to bulb socket. Fastening clip was hard to fasten, supposed to snap shut but broke when pressed down. The screws provided had very small notches on the heads so stripped when fastening. Also somewhat flimsy...

one package did not come with all pieces, the other broke when i snapped it together. junk

I signed up solely to review this horrible item. First time I bought it, the package was missing clips. Returned it for another. The clips don't fit well with the standard leviton socket so I needed to use my own washers. The entire unit is super flimsy. I went to close the cage and the clip broke off. Do not buy.

Cannot give a review on these since they would not work on the lights that I bought them for. I just wish that I would have bought just 1 to try instead of 13. It looked like they would work on the web site but not in reality. Be sure to try one before buying multiples.

I have several exposed light bulbs hanging in a 5 ft crawl space where at times my toddler grandchildren play. Being concerned that a child’s head could encounter a bulb I need to guard the bulbs in order to protect the children. These are not expensive so perhaps not the greatest quality, but they do exactly what I want them to do. They very adequately cover the bulbs making me feel confident an accident will be avoided.

Several of the clips cracked off when closing cover. This was in 30 degree temps, used outdoors.

Priced at under $3.00, other wise I would not recommend. What should have take 5 minutes to install over a porcelain mounted overhead light bulb, took 25 minutes of finagling , especially snapping the cage latch closed.

Purchased during our annual stay in Florida (Snowbird). Not available in Canada. We only have the metal cages up here. It serves the purpose. Be careful when installing and don't over-tighten. No need to install the two little adapters. I have installed two of these in my wine cellar and it does what it is supposed to do. It prevents the bulb from shattering when bumped - with my head. It may move a bit when I have done so, but easy to straighten till next bump. Pleased that I don't need to be mindful of ending up with glass shards in my scalp and the plastic cage is a lot easier on the head than the metal ones.

I should have read the reviews. This is even more flimsy than what I thought was possible. No protection of the bulb whatsoever. Furthermore it does not fit the the standard porcelain and plastic fixtures sold next to it very well; one bump and it slips off dangling on the light bulb. Yet another con: the plastic is so incredibly weak that just trying to turn the screws caused part of the plastic base to tear before the screw head even met the plastic! Definitely did not meet expectations. This is what happens when you're too busy to read the warnings of others before buying.

This will not fir leviton keyless lamp holder, it just slides off. I am returning all that I purchased.

Rather cheaply made, but did the job in my closet. Easy to install.

I discovered too late that this bulb guard is not compatible with a Leviton porcelain lamp holder with pullchain, model 29816. The mounting tabs are just too short for this standard pullchain lamp holder which you would think it should work with. It fits non-pullchain shallow porcelain bases only. In addition, the mounting tabs (adapters) are hard to assemble on to the flimsy guard grille. Instructions should say mount these onto the grille, then mount the tabs to the fixture rather than mounting the tabs to the fixture then mount grille to the tabs. The locking latch is flimsy and doesn't stay put. The mounting tabs mount under the porcelain base screws, making the mounting of the porcelain base to the outlet box less solid. All around a bad design, cheaply made, and incompatible with Leveton's own pullchain porcelain lamp holder.

I asked for a an inexpensive fixture or guard that would protect the bare bulbs in the attic and the floor person showed me these. I was not impressed, but I bought 3 because it was all they had. Hard to imagine what this would guard against - maybe from paper resting on the bulb - that is if you can get it to stay in place. Any small amount of force and it bends or pops open. Not useful for anything really. I find my general shopping experience at Home Depot has gradually deteriorated in the past couple of years. I prefer to shop elsewhere.

Good idea. Even thought the plastic is flimsy it should do the job. However, once I installed them, they refused to stay fastened so now half the guard will open and hang. I'll need to tape it or something to keep it closed. I would recommend it with the reservation that if you expect to bump in to it very much, find an other guard - either a rigid plastic or metal one. Way overpriced for what you get - should be less than $1 each for their poor quality.

Installed on garage fixture, put in bulb, closed, clip that holds unit closed broke on first try. Useless junk.
