It was hard to place the blades. Had to do too much and still didn't get it right.

I buy what I remember my dad having and that was Stanley tools. So I bought Stanley when I recently bought my first home. I needed a utility knife so I pick this one up and it worked for a very short period of time. The blade does not lock into place. It slides freely so looks like it garbage now, I would have returned it but I can't find the receipt. That's what I get for not using my home depot credit card.

I have one of these knives that’s several years old and it works effortlessly and flawlessly. Just recently bought another one to keep one in my toolbox and one in the garage, and similar to other peoples experience that I see online I cannot get the blade to lock into place. Tried unsuccessfully several times. I know they ”upgraded” their design because the new one looks slightly different than the old one (rectangular yellow button instead of oval button), but the new one just doesn’t work. Total piece of crap. Wish I could give it a 0 star rating because it is completely unusable

It's comfortable, solid and a definite improvement over it's all-metal predecessor. To change the blade, depress and move the slider ALL the way to the top, past the third (outermost) blade stop. This will allow you to depress the button and release the blade. Depress the button again to insert a new blade. The knife won't allow you to depress the button at the stop (the operating position), and this is a GOOD thing. You don't want the blade accidentally coming out under heavy use if the button gets bumped. The knife will accept both regular Stanley blades and FatMax blades (I like the latter). I've had two of these knives for many years and use them regularly for construction, remodeling, woodworking, and general use around the house.

The blade retention mechanism does not work properly. I just bought this and the blade pulls out of the body very easily. It’s almost impossible to score drywall with this as the blade keeps pulling out of the body. I can grab the blade with thumb and forefinger and pull it out of the knife. I regret buying this.

The blade pulls out under pressure. This thing is going to hurt someone bad. It should not be sold. Waste of money.

I wish I had read these reviews before I purchased this utility knife. It says on the packaging that it is now even easier to change the blade....lol. First off, no instructions. Went online and watched a youtube video and still had problems. After about 20 minutes I was finally able to change the blade. Now, about a month later I am completely unable to change the worn blade. It simply will not advance far enough to enable the blade to be pulled out. I concur with other reviewers here. A piece of junk

I bought it and pulled the paper out and was not able to put a new blade in it.

There was no blade in the package. Makes it pretty hard to read it.

Product works great but the instructions for start up on packaging were bad and had to Google where blades were and how to install blades.

I like this knife but it was a bit heavy for my hands because I have arthritis but overall a very good knife because I’ve used it in the past.

Very comfortable to hold

I bought this a month ago, if I had known I'd need 5 hands to hold all the pieces together to put it back to rights, I would never have bought it. Upon opening the package the blades would not come out, had to take it apart to get to them. First, the yellow press button falls out, then the thumb guard falls out, finally Gorilla glued it, then you need to prop it up on a nickel to allow for the swing peg on the hand grip. Better check that the blade will actually move out before putting the screws back in, then the top guard flops out, START AGAIN! Instant Change my foot!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used to have the instantchange knife for years and then I lost it at a job. So i purchased a new one, I was a little dissatisfied with the grip on it. The older on had grips that were more rubbery and this new one has more of a plastic grip. The rubber one was easy to handle, where the new one is a little stiffer and stiff feeling.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I thought this knife looked pretty trick when my old green steel Stanley utility knife started getting loose, and it does have a nice hand while using it - but it's too frustrating to remember the combination to change blades so I put it in the house! The new blades are easy enough to get out of their storage cubby, but it's not all in one like the steel knives. Oh, and on my particular knife at least, the blade doesn't stay locked out, I constantly have to hold it open. Just not Stanley's best product and I'm a Stanley pro user from decades back!

I am a Stanley product fan, which is why I bought this instead of a cheaper make. I don't think this particular product was made for anyone who does not have a Great Deal of strength in their hands. Getting the cardboard packing off was a test of my vocabulary. Opening the handle required actually required the help of a man who definately has strength in his hands (he's a body builder) and he actually grunted to open it. Did I get the only one like this? It does work wonderfully well now that it has a blade. Would I buy it again? Don't have to, it will probably out last me.

This is very easy to use.

I give it four stars because I haven’t used it yet. I like how it is easy to change the blade and how well is made, also I like the small compartment to store 3 blades.
