I had my handy man install our skylight and it look great and was able to open and close the window. Then a few days later we tried to open the skylight using the hook pole and the hook eye snapped off. I wish it was made of metal instead of plastic. I placed an order with the manufacturer for a new metal eye hook with a universal hinge, because HD won’t ship to my location for a small part. Hope this helps.

This venting skylight replaced a 100-year-old fixed skylight in my attic space. What a difference fresh air makes, not to mention that it is remote controlled. The space is so improved that I think I will finish it and make and additional room.

These 2 units were purchased as equivalent sized replacement for older failed Velux units. The original units had wood clad interior, very nice looking. These have white vinyl interior trim, which is not explained in the description on line. However, they do look nice. They were not quite an exact replacement, and we did have to cut back the shingle roofing about an inch on all sides to accommodate the flange (deck mount). Also, the flashing kit isn't really designed for replacement, just for new installation, so we had to modify that application, but I'm confident it will work fine and has so far proved watertight in the recent rainstorms here in the PNW springtime.

First set were purchased 16 years ago and they have worked perfectly since the day they were installed. Recently we purchased another set. The NEW improved are smoother more quiet. Bravo VELUX! Bravo!

I really like these windows. I bought 2 and wish i could have put in 8. They allow a ton of light in and work smoothly. Tip - FOr the frim i used 1x material and planed it down to 1/2 to slip in like the sheetrock would. this was on a rafter roof. Also on a rafter roof install don't forget to drill the proper amount and size of holes above and below skylight so the roof still vents from the eve to the ridge. I think this is a problem for many skylight leaks that actually are condensation issues due to improper installation.

My contractor installed it for us and told us it was very easy to assemble. Also took his time to show us how to open the window when need it. Very happy to see how elegant they look.

JUST HAD IT INSTALLED. MY CONTRACTOR HAD NEVER INSTALLED A SKYLIGHT LET ALONE A VELUX SKYLIGHT. THE INSTALL WAS SIMPLE AND INSTRUCTIONS WERE EASY TO FOLLOW. YEARS AGO I PERSONALLY INSTALLED TWO OF THESE IN A PREVIOUS HOME AND REMEMBER THAT IT WAS FAIRLY EASY TO INSTALL AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY LEAKS. THIS IS WHY I DECIDED TO USE THESE AGAIN IN THIS HOME AND I AM GLAD I DID. ADDS A LOT OF LIGHT IN A DARK ROOM. MY ONLY REGRET WAS NOT GETTING THE AUTO CONTROLLED UNIT AND INSTALLING THEM. BUT THESE WILL WORK OUT WELL.

Perfect. Yesterday evening, the wife went into the kitchen to shut the light off, then realized it was the skylight :)

First rate product. Flashing kit is very comprehensive. Up to 4:12 roof a competent DIYer could self install. Steeper than that, hire a specialist! Installation is pricey as many shingles must be removed/replaced. Assume that all shingles you remove will be damaged and need replaced with new to avoid surprises. Note that this unit is narrower than fixed lights which are made to fit rafters/trusses that are on 24" centers, so fillers are needed both sides of R.O.

I gave Velux customer service tech the serial # of old skylight , and he told me what new one i would need along with the flashing kit that went along with it . I am replacing the roof on my house , so i changed the skylight too.

The skylights look fantastic in my new kitchen. I really like the solar power for the blinds that fortunately are not between the glass

I bought two, both missing remote control, called the home depot two weeks ago, they said that Manufacturer will send two remote control to my home, so far haven't received.noting any info.flowe up. The Skylight is good,5 star. Blind moves very quietly. The App set up my first skylight was quikly even dosen't have remote control, but got trouble for second one, it must through the remote control to connect. so I'm still waiting the remote control comes.

Went in easy, love the automatic shade that detects sunlight and closes.

Our home had one of these from prior owner. During renovation added second one. The light it allows into our expanded kitchen is great. Very well designed and flashing kit is exceptional. Velux also has great install video to confirm how to install. The most difficult part is removing shingles on existing roof carefully if you need to re-use them. Installing this window is not difficult for anyone with basic carpentry skills. I have done very major remodels to my homes and I found this to be designed extremely well. I also paid extra for glass with coating that keeps it cleaner and it is very noticeable compared to prior one I don't believe had it. I am generally skeptical of those claims but after a month of rains pollen it works. If you are putting it in during roof replacement this is so much easier. It was an easy install-quite operating system-low profile on my roof. I would and have recommended this product to my neighbors that have the same need to replace there 33 Year old skylights.

Great product. You will need two trim kits for the bottom. The flashing kit is well designed and makes installation easy. The skylight looks great, definitely get the laminated glass for the extra hundred dollars. I would recommend this product to everyone.

My handyman installed them without any question. Looks pretty.

I bought these skylights 3 months ago. We are very happy with them. They bring in light and help to regulate the temperature and fresh air flow in the kitchen, and they are so easy to use. They definitely beautify our kitchen.

It is always nice to get validation from a professional. After going back and forth between solar and manual, I did opt for the solar. Both my contractor and the installer gave me the thumbs up. The roofer/installer was wise enough to put the solar panel in full sun, while the skylights were installed. By the time installation was finished, the panels were fully charged. The control panel is awesome. The lights open and close smoothly and QUIETLY. The added light and air circulation is wonderful in my top floor. I live in an historic house. The historic commission gave me the okay, due to the unobtrusive design of these skylights.

We purchased a condo in an old factory. There where no windows in two bedrooms. After adding the skylights the rooms where transformed! Not only do we get sunlight and ventilation but my condo now makes sense and I'm sure they will pay for themselves for resale. I want one in my foyer as well!

So far so good! No leaks, but it's only been a month. The worst part of the job was putting the tape around the unit and the roof decking. I watched the video on You Tube and got more out of that than the instructions that came with skylight. I just wish Velux had a better selection of sizes. My rough opening was 1/2 in different than the skylight so I will have to re sheetrock my opening.

These were the perfect addition to install while replacing my roof. Now I have Fresh Air coming in and more light. The perfect addition is a roof window that opens. If you are considering getting skylites. Make sure they Open.

These skylights transformed the room. I can't imagine why anyone would install those opaque plastic bubbles when these are available. We had a contractor install and I don't think he had any problems except the instructions for the blinds were useless -- a few pictures -- had to scour the internet for videos. The blinds were not difficult to install once it was clear how to do so. These things close as soon as it starts raining and the remote control is very easy to use and basically auto-configures itself. There are lots of features with the control that we haven't explored.

Very well constructed sky light. Solid construction. Nothing is flimsy or cheap - all is high quality materials and fabrication. The product comes in a very durable cardboard box and the interior packaging is top quality which protects the skylight during shipment and loading it up on the roof for installation. Once installed it works flawlessly! The ease of the solar powered wireless remote control operation is amazing. It took no time syncing the remote to the unit. I must say the read out on the remote screen is state of the art. It looks expensive and quality when it mounts on the wall. The magnet securing the actual remote to the wall mounted cradle is clever. Best of all just today July 16, 2015 I did a walk through with the home owners (my clients) and both the husband and wife can not say enough of how pleased they are with the product or installation. As a contractor doing residential remodels for close to 40 years I absolutely would recommend this product. Only con is that I would suggest not to try this yourself. This is not a DIY project as there is too much involved with getting the opening and framing correct.

I'm glad we got the shade for our skylight, it does diffuse the light and help to keep out added heat from the hot sun. It was not very easy to install, it could use better instructions. And it's pretty expensive for what it is.

It's a great looking skylight and works good too. It is a little loud opening and shutting but that's not too bad. The control panel is cool and looks nice on the wall. The item does not come with flashing which is necessary to install it. Not being aware of this we had to place a separate order and wait to have the installation completed which was a bit of a pain.
