There are variables in construction that can cause a StudSensor to give false readings and quite often these issues have to do with the environment you’re operating on. There are tried and true techniques we can help you with that can explain why the tool is reacting to density changes that may not be studs and will also promote consistent scanning results. Hello Mike. We're sorry the HD900 didn't work on your stucco wall but it is stated on the packaging that it is meant for Indoor Use Only. This is due to the many variables in outdoor construction techniques and materials which may cause the tool from functioning properly with stucco being one of examples of this. Stucco has metal screening in it which prevents stud sensors from calibrating properly. Thank you.

Hello Bruce. The HD900 does more than just locate studs. It also has a metal finding capability mode and an AC scan mode which will find live unshielded ac wiring. If you need help with these features please contact us through the Zircon website. Thank you.

Hello Ronald. Because of the varying density of materials that make up lath and plaster constructed walls, a standard stud sensor tool (such as many of the Zircon StudSensor products) will not work to find studs (this is stated on the packaging).The preferred technique would be to use a Zircon Studsensor that includes a “metal scan” mode such as the HD900 that you have.. This will allow you to search out and map the nails that hold the horizontal lath pieces to the studs. This way it’s possible to map out the studs accurately.
