DAODONG, you are correct. This is more of a thick butter-grade made to seal seams and address repairs. If looking for a thinner silicone, look for Henry 887 Silicone Roof Coating, which can be brushed or rolled on. Thank you for putting your trust in Henry and Home Depot.

The Henry 885 Tropi-Cool Seam & Repair Roof Sealant is more of a butter grade sealant that you would use a trowel or paint brush on to apply. It sounds like you were looking for more of a paint grade product which would be our Henry 887 Tropi-Cool 100% Silicone Coating. Perhaps this bucket had been opened once prior to your purchase for some odd reason. One of the nice things about Henry 885 is that it doesn't shrink as it cures like most sealants and is not affected by the harmful rays of the sun so it will stay flexible for a lifetime. Kerry, we are sorry to hear about your experience. It could be possible that you used Henry 887 Tropicool roof coating on your roof a year ago and not the 885. The roof coating can be rolled on or brushed on where the 885 is a seam sealer that is made to be used with a trowel and is pretty thick. The one gallon buckets look pretty similar so it might have been stocked together by accident. Thank you for putting your trust in Henry products and the Home Depot. Vern, I am sorry that you threw the can of 885 away. 885 is a patching sealant and as such is supposed to be thick in order to patch gaps and seams. 885 is normally applied with a trowel or brush and should be the consistency of butter. 887 TropiCool hi-solids silicone coating is the product that is thinner and is the one used to coat a roof. If you still have the can of 885 I would encourage you to take it back to the Home Depot and exchange it for the 887 TropiCool coating.

885 is usually the consistency of cake frosting. You may have gotten a bucket that someone had opened on the shelf to look at the product. As a moisture cure product, once the bucket has been opened it will start to cure slowly and become thicker. 885 should be very easy to spread with a trowel or a brush.
