They last longer than expected. Easy install, insert batteries, write expiration date on device (10 years in the future) place device and test, and done.

10 year life unit failed after 2 weeks. I got an "err" message for no reason, and
beeping. I reset the unit, and it repeated the "err" message repeatedly. Disabling
switch on the back left side was very hard to find and turn the unit off.
Lives depend on these units - very disappointing.

Hello. The unit has gone into an error mode as a safety feature. The unit has self-diagnostic circuits that test the alarm's sensors and electronics. If your CO alarm fails to test properly, or if its self-diagnostic test reveals a malfunction, immediately have the unit replaced. This alarm will not monitor CO levels while in an error condition. Call us with this alarm and batteries in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.

We have these detectors in 2 of our homes. They have been very reliable and we appreciate the “End of Life” feature on the product. This purchase was for a new detector after the previous one lasted 10 years as advertised.

I purchased this unit 10 years ago, just got the EOL warning, and opted to replace it with the same unit. It just works! I love having user replaceable batteries as well -vs- the "10yr sealed" because I've seen enough of those batteries not hold up all 10 years. Just replace the AA's once a year like your smoke detectors and you're good to go. Love having the readout screen as well - makes things easy if the alarm does go off. A+ from Kidde!

We were concerned that we might have had a problem with carbon monoxide. I used this digital product to determine that this problem did not exist. The only thing I didn't like about the product was that the instructions as to how to put in the batteries was buried in the written instructions. There were no instructions on the alarm itself and the proper way to install the batteries was not obvious from how the connections were set up in the alarm.
