I bought this from Home Depot in April, 2020 to replace an old shovel. I've owned two in the past 20 years (first lasting about 8 years, and the second lasting 12). I guess that shows how much I value my shovels since I can identify how long I've owned them! My last shovel finally snapped, and I had to look for a replacement. I went with this one, because I try support local economies and buy American, when possible. I wanted to give another star for keeping Americans employed, but something just seems fishy here. The shovel broke on my third use. I was digging out some small tree stumps, and it snapped. Now, I've probably gone through this process on probably four dozen or more small trees and bushes over the years (clearing out of control plantings and replanting), I've never had this happen. Step one, dig around the stump/root ball. Step two, add water (from hose or rain). Step three, wait. Step four, dig some more. Sometimes a reciprocating saw is used, but not always. I dig a little, and get under a root and pry it just enough to let water run around. This is the first time I have used this shovel for this purpose, and it snapped. Never had the issue before with other hickory-handled shovels. As a matter of fact, the grain was the wrong direction on my most recent shovel, and it still outlasted this one by around 140 months! Glad to hear others have had good experiences, but I gotta admit that I was skeptical of such high reviews, because this shovel snapped like a piece of junk. I decided to run Fakespot on the reviews for this shovel on another a to z website, and they got a D rating. That means that it seems like "high deception" is involved in the reviews.

Looks like I won't be breaking this one any time soon.

All of the yard tools I’ve bought made by billy dog truly are built tough. They aren’t the prettiest welds but that’s irrelevant in this scenario. These things appear indestructible.

Contractor approved! As a professional contractor for over 30years I have used all types of shovels and I have to say this one might be my top pick but time will tell. It's lightweight fiberglass handle is very strong with a comfortable grip. I will be putting this shovel into action this summer to trench electrical power wiring. Another plus it's made in the USA!!

Nice heavy duty shovel with good thought in its design. The upper handle has a rubber grip for comfort and the fiberglass shaft is obviously strong and should last a real long time. My favorite thing on this shovel though is actually the top of the blade- It has an extra large foot step which keeps your foot from getting sore or bruised if you are having to do lots of shoveling. The top step is probably an inch wide which definitely keeps the bottom of your foot from getting sore. So I can highly recommend this shovel as a real good hard working shovel to add to your tool collection.

Great shovel! I know it is just a shovel, but I could tell right away that this was well made. Solid fiberglass handle, foam padding on tip, big fold downs on shovel head for feet. And to be honest, I love the red. It really stands out and looks great. I have done two plantings and have no complaints. Seems rugged enough for commercial use even though I got it for around the house.

Overall a ready nice shovel. It's made in the USA and Is made well. It is not a lightweight shovel. If your small and low on the strength it might wear you out sooner than less expensive shovels. If you want to dig and pry this will work nicely. Tough for me to full test this out since the ground is frozen where I am, but everything on this shovel is well made and heavy duty. I am 265 lbs and can stand on the blade and it doesn't flex. The handle does not flex much (less than wood handles), but i am sure you could break it if you tried (pretty sure it would take more force than a wood handle). The shovel had a good heft to it to help chopping root and breaking up hard soil. The edge of the blade is not sharp, so you may want to file an edge on it if you looking to cut through roots. The red handle also makes it easy to find.

A while back I had purchased a Bully Tool garden rake. It was quite expensive but I liked the features. The rake head was a good 3-4 inches wider than anything else I saw. So when I saw the chance to get the matching shovels a jumped on it. First the shovel head: as with the rake, it is at least 20% larger than the round point shovel I already owned. It is sturdy and very heavy duty. The longer handle provides great leverage and the grip is comfortable to hold. Some may complain that the shovel is too heavy but I would disagree. These Bully shovels and rakes are the best I've ever owned. You will not break them nor wear them out. I highly recommend any of these products and you will be completely satisfied.

Great shovel for years of use. This replaced my cheap wood handle shovel with broke. The spade for the shovel is very well made and durable, it has a long metal next to meet the fiberglass handle. The long neck helps prevent snapping and gives you leverage when shoveling. The rubber grip at the top the handle is a plus and I find the length great for shoveling. Finally, I love anything made in the USA.

The qualities: the handle, the neck, the wide shovel top you can put your sh oes on, were well worth the extra trouble of ordering this. Oddly, Amazon will not ship this. made in USA shovel, to California. However, Home Depot will. Thank you Home Depot.
