This was the first LED bulb I bought, and I am very happy with it. It provides a nice bright light without an artificial look. The soft white is just right for our fixture. We put it inside a new garage fixture which was the perfect choice.

Bright, Good Color Rendering, Burns Cool
The CREE leds are the best replacement for incandescent bulbs, and toxic compact fluorescents too. Here in NC. the power company subsidizes the bulb cost making them affordable. I have purchased them a few at a time to spread out the cost, and now almost all the lamps in our home have CREE leds, including the recessed fixtures. The color is soft and even, radiating from the sides of the incandescent shaped bulb, making them indistinguishable from incandescents or halogen even. Only the little white metal heat sink above the threaded base becomes warm during use, saving on air conditioning, the bulb remains cool. i use the 40W equiv leds in lamps that have multiple sockets, they are plenty bright. The label says these can be used in enclosed fixtures as well. The CREE leds are now available in 75W, and 100W equivalents, as well as the 60W and Par30 units previously available, so there is a perfect replacement for any situation. Outdoors, they light instantly, whether cold or hot, and worked great this winter when it was zero, the compact fluorescents would not even glow at that temp. We have many antique tiffany lamps and antique sconces/ pendants, and the CREE leds look like a real light bulb, not a weird curly thing, when they are exposed. They do dim OK, but the color is different, somewhat cooler as it dims-not warmer like incandescents. It woks best to turn them on bright and then dim, rather than the other way around, as they need a certain amout of voltage for the electronics to light. there is a very slight hum or ring when these operate, especially when dimmed, I can barely hear it, but some may be sensitive, so give one a try first if you think that might be an issue.

Cree 8.5 Watt (40 Watt equivalent) TW Series dimmable
Makes humming/buzzing noise at all levels from dim to bright even with Lutron Maestro dimmer switch designed for CFL and LED bulbs. Although the bulbs do produce full range dimming, the noise is too distracting. I returned the bulbs and replaced them with Ecosmart 8 Watt (40 Watt equivalent) G25 Soft White LED dimmable bulbs. The Ecosmart bulbs are buzz/hum free. I noticed that both Home Depot and Amazon reviews for the Crees have many poor ratings for noise.

Great value. Good quality for the price.
This LED Bulb is a good value for the price. I only wish it was the Cree TW Series of LED bulbs for this price.
TW Series provides one of the most beautiful and natural LED lights ever produced, with a nearly unmatched Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 93.
However, this bulb is close to a typical incandescent warm white bulb.

Great bulb for bathroom lighting.
Used 8 of the Cree 40 watt bulbs in two bathroom fixtures. They provide perfect lighting for the entire bathroom. Very little heat generated by the LED bulbs.

A great LED bulb
These bulbs, much like the CREE 60W equivalent bulbs, are nearly indistinguishable from an incandescent bulb. I bought six of these to install in our primary bathroom fixture and am very happy with the results. My only complaint (and it's minor) is that there appears to be two variants of this bulb. With one, there appears to be LEDs on the top of the corncob inside the glass. For the other, there does not appear to be LEDs on top--this results in a slightly unlit part of the bulb (just the very top). For most applications, this isn't a big deal. Mine are installed just below the ceiling, so half of the bulbs have a small shadow above them, half don't. It's still not terribly noticeable; it took me 2 weeks after I installed the bulbs to notice it. In the attached image, you can see a slight shadow on the two outer bulbs.
Overall, I'd still buy more--I just wish I knew how to tell the difference on the packaging.

Looks Great in my Ceilng Fan and Dims Perfect!!!
Was skeptical if they would dim in my ceiling fan. Saw them on sale this evening for $5.97 and could not resist so I bought 2 to try. Placed two in the fan and dimmed the fan all the way down. The Incandescent bulbs actually cut out before the LED bulbs. These bulbs can dim way down. I'm using a 7 year old Hunter Douglass Ceiling fan with hand held dimmer switch and it worked fine. Went back and bought several more for this price. See pics. I tried to show how they look dim. They dim pretty much as well as the incandescent bulbs if not better. They also fit well in the globes. Was worried they would stick out but they fit similar to the regular bulbs. Only thing you can notice is the small black spot in the center of the bulb, Not a big deal. Plan on trying next outside in my dusk to dawn photo cell lights.

Incredible!!! 6-WATT (40W) is brighter than 60W incandescent.
This is unbelievable! This 6-WATT (40W) is brighter than 60W incandescent bulb I had in my home. The color temperature is perfect, not so yellow or white. I am happy I chose the soft white, its color temperature is similar to incandescent but a bit whitish and it is really nice. Finally a bulb that I really needed. I think people should not even care to look at other bulbs... this is the one to chose. Check out the picture, I have a 60W incandescent (Left) and 6-WATT (40W) (Right) side by side. 6-WATT (40W) is brighter.

Made in USA says it all
I am currently testing the 9.0 watt daylight version of this bulb and WOW am I pleased. Let's just say that this thing makes a LOT of light for the watts it consumes. It has come through many different uses including closed fixtures pretty well. Though I agree with the above reviewer. Use the 6 watt version for this so it lasts longer. Electrolytic capacitors degrade quickly at high temps. The heat levels get a bit higher when it cant get air over the heat-sink. In free standing or table lamps or in any application where this thing can get air, there is NO comparison to other bulbs at the same price point. I like the neutral white light option as I always hated the reddish color of indoor lighting, but the warm white version nails the warm white color pretty much on the head. They also make a 9 watt version of this light for indoor floodlights. Another one I am anxious to put through its paces ASAP. So far a great product with local control of fabrication of the LED's. Find Cree's website for more info. These little bulbs are only the beginning of what they make. No Chinese shortages of critical parts to hamstring product quality or price.
Other things that I have noticed:
* Work extremely well with power inverters, both
modified sine and pure sine wave. This makes them
IDEAL for solar
* I am unsure how they will perform yet on a generator
I think they will be ok on an inverter type unit, but may
not like running on the older non inverter type. Ive
destroyed several other LED bulbs doing this. Will test.
* I've only detected VERY little RF from the tiny driver
circuit in its base. It may have been noise simply
present in the line feeding the unit. Lots of harmonic
distortion on the grid these days.
The other reason you should buy these, is that they are made in America, keeping our citizens in honest jobs that keep money here, on our shores. Why should China light our homes when we can make our own, and at better quality and price point. Think of all the houses that will use these and you see very quickly that LOTS of money will stay in our country and many workers can feed their families with pride. As long as the quality is there, and Americans make these, they will be in my home. The more we buy, the cheaper they will get once mass production fully kicks in.

Fantastic!
If you have been waiting, like I have, for a great LED bulb this is the one. True warm white (2700k) just like your regular bulbs, small enough to fit in almost any lamp or fixture, even lower power consumption than CFLs, dimmable, they look like a standard glass incandescent bulb, bright 800 lumens, the bulb emits its light in all directions like a regular bulb (many don't shine down) and they are priced right!
In Hawaii, where electricity costs over 40¢/kwh I will save almost $400 in electricity per bulb over its lifetime. Since they should last 25,000 hours I may never need to replace a bulb again, every lamp in my home is now LED!

Fantastic lighting
I just purchased the Cree LED bulb and thus far it works as advertised. Most cfls and LEDs don't quite compare to the warm white incandescent lighting but these guys nailed it with only 6 watts! The price is a bit high compared to cfls but I am willing to pay extra for mercury free lighting. Overall its a great investment and will be purchasing more in the very near future.

I purchased three of these bulbs when i moved into my new house four years ago and now they stopped working. They were in a chandler over my dining room table. Daily use for approximately 4 hours a day, that should of got me 22 years as per manufacture.
Mostly around dinner time then they would be turned off. I can see if there were in my living room which average 6 hours a day. I didn't keep receipt, who would for light bulbs? So now i can't submit a warranty claim.
Poor rating poor only 4 years of moderate use.

I bought 6 to use 4 in a ceiling light, and the other 2 were not in use. I like that they are dimmable. After a few months one of them began flickering. Now 2 months later another is flickering. 2 did not last a year.

LED retro-fit
Works well. Low wattage saves electricity. Good color rendition. One area at top of lamp is dark, doesn't affect function. Ballast is noisy.
Don't use this product if 60 cycle hum will be an issue.

Good bulb, inconsistent manufacturing.
Nice bulb that puts out even 360 degree light, unlike many cheap LED bulbs (which are usually more omnidirectional). The light is warm and equivalent to the incandescent bulbs I used beforehand. These Cree models with the larger heat sink are better than the newer "cheap" 4-flow models in my opinion.
The only problem is inconsistency in manufacturing. I had bought 2 of this exact model a few months earlier and both of those have a rubbery coating on them that disperses the light very evenly. The one I received does not have this coating and looks different in the breakfast bar fixtures I put them in. While the other 2 bulbs are lit evenly, you can see the LED filament inside this one and the bottom of them bulb is darker. The difference isn't enough to return the bulb but you can definitely see the difference when you look at the lit bulbs. I still recommend this bulb over any other LED bulbs.

Cree finally fixed Buzzing issue with dinner!!
I bought 4 of these and thought it was odd 3 of them had a smooth glass globe, and the other had a sticky rubber like globe. I put them in a fixture with a dimmer and the rubber-like one had a real loud buzz while the others were silent. Returned it for a "smooth" globe version and voila - no buzzing! Cree must have finally fixed the issue. If you are using no dimmer slightly make sure you buy the kind with the smooth glass-like globe and NOT the rubber kind!

GREAT light quality, but HORRIBLE buzzing and POOR range when dimmed
I bought four of these. The light quality is outstanding. It's almost impossible to tell it from an incandescent. There is no visible flicker. Unfortunately, the dimming range is poor - it only dims from 100% down to about 50%. Also, they make a buzzing sound when dimmed below 100%. It's not terribly loud, but it can certainly be heard by anyone with normal hearing in a quiet home. I give the quality of light 5 stars, but the buzzing and poor dimming range ruined that rating.

Great unless you have a dimmer
This is a good bulb with great light quality. They turn on instantly (some led bulbs have a delay). Unfortunately it is noisy when used with a dimmer. I would not recommend for dimmable lighting. Home Depot allowed me to return the bulbs I had on a dimmer with no problems.

A Good Product, But Still Needs A Little Work.......................
The Cree Dimmable 40W bulb is a good product for the money, but has some work to do. The overall light appearance and quality of the bulb is excellent, but the downside is the "noise" level. We used 9 of the lamps in a dining room fixture, and were disappointed with the noise output of these lamps. With a TV on in the attached space and people talking, the background noise of these lamps was annoying. We went as far as to isolate these lamps in other dimmable fixtures and had the same issue. The dimmers were replaced as well which were rated for LED and CFL bulb usage. We returned these lamps back to Home Depot, with no problem.
