Bright idea
These bulbs have worked well in lamps and bathroom fixtures. They come on quickly and the quality of the light is very good. Haven't tried dimming.

nice bulbs -- not greatest for dimmable
Great bulb, brighter than comparable incandescent. Dimmable but not as easily controlled as incandescent

    Better than a 60w incandescent
Recently finished converting my home to 100% LED lighting using these and another brand for BR30's. These things absolutely rock. The 40w equivalents outshine the 60w incandescent they replaced. Very low heat, nice 2700k color. Cannot go wrong with them. I will be converting my mothers home to these in short order.

    Humdinger
I bought these for a dimmable chandelier and they all hummed, which was unacceptable - so, back to the store.

      Absolutely hassle free warranty replacement.
I have switched over my entire house to CREE bulbs. Have had two issues on 1 1/2 year old bulbs and Cree sent replacements. Since these bulbs have only been on the market for close to 2 years and have a 10 year warranty, they don't even ask for the receipt. And they DO NOT require the bad bulb to be sent to them. Both of my calls to Cree were very pleasant and had very satisfactory results John from Redford Michigan.

      Bright and cool
I love LED lights. This one is great. Cool to the touch and puts out a lot of light while saving energy. Great value.

      Dim
False advertising. By no stretch of the imagination is this 40 watt equivalent. If your replacing 40w incandescent bulbs buy the Cree 60 watt LED bulbs as they are equivalent.

      Best idea since...the lightbulb!
Thank you, Home Depot for featuring this MADE IN AMERICA product line. We will be replacing our old lightbulbs as they wear out with CREE LED Bulbs. We are very satisfied with the illumination and appearance. We would suggest a "sample box" at the store to more accurately line up with how CREE labels their products regarding the brightness characteristics of their bulbs. Thanks for putting Americans to work!

      Great bulbs
Great bulbs for replacing my lamp post, and outdoor house lighting. If they were slightly brighter, I'd use them indoors!

Good choice of light bulbs for ceiling fans
The color temperature of this bulb is just fine, and the feature I most like is that it presents far less glare than a standard bulb. I do not know how it will hold up over the long term in this application, but so far there have not been any issues.

Several bulbs are starting to "burn out"
We installed ~12 of these bulbs in 4/2013. It is now 9/2014 and we're starting to now see them "burn out" - the LEDs are still dimly flickering, but they're not fully lit up. Two have done this within a couple weeks of each other. Seems like the LEDs are probably good for the rated 25,000 hour life, but the quality of the Cree internals are not. Based on my usage estimates for where I have these bulbs installed I would have expected ~13 years out of these bulbs. Cree does offer the 10yr warranty...but by the time I spend a few dollars to ship them back to Cree it makes them cost that much more.

        Whole house replacement
I have converted my entire house to Cree bulbs. The color temperature is great, they light in cold weather and rarely need replacement. Saving energy is, however, the main event.

Ran hotter than others and didn't dim as much
I have bought about 10 different LED bulbs to test in my basement tv room. This Cree bulb was hotter than the others and did not have as much dimmable range.

More reliable than CFLs or incandescents
We have a ceiling fan that was using dimmable CFLs which would only last months. These look nicer, and the light is very natural. They draw so little power the dimmer switch doesn't even hum.

        Ideal use of shopping satisfied
Used the light bulb in our door hallway. Daylight White is really bright but for our use it was the exact brightness that we needed during the night hours coming home in the dark, and have that light on.

        LED by CREE, excellent investment.
I no longer have to worry about not having enough light. This LED supplied all of the expectations I was looking for and no longer have to think about buying bulbs on hand. Eventually my complete home will be changed out to CREE LED'S, all supplied by The Home Depot. . A very good investment

Cree 40W led bulb, finally worth the cost
looks almost as good as an incandescent bulb, good color and good light distribution. I plan on replacing all my house lights with these. At $7 each, it will pay for itself after 10% of its lifetime and have 90% life at 20% the energy consumed.

Great bulbs - very consistent color
These bulbs are better than the Utilitech bulbs available at "the other big name home improvement store". Same price, same lifespan, fewer watts, and consistent color. The Utilitech bulbs have very inconsistent color. Cree is a good manufacturer.

Time will tell if they in fact are worth the extra money
Ten year guarantee, so we'll see. That will be the REAL product review. I previously had CFL's and they were a waste of money. For as much as these cost ($6.48) they should last 10 years.

Bulbs appear to be good, but expensive. Could be better priced.

In with the new-but just like the old
This light bulb has the appearance of the standard incandescents. Love the look. Pricey but if they last as long as advertised, well worth the price.

          Excellent General Purpose bulb
I purchased 7 of these bulbs about a year ago. All are in areas where they are regularly turned off and on. And all bulbs are still running strong. Previously, I was using 5 GE 60W equivalent soft white CFLs for my kitchen fixture, but they didn't last very long and they had the tendency to buzz. The Cree 40W seem to be as bright or brighter, with no buzz. There is one drawback to this particular bulb, there are no LEDs on the end of the bulb. All LEDs point outward at a 90 degree angle from the base. It hasn't been a problem for me, there is plenty of light for my purposes. And a lot of light does make it out the end of the bulb. However, if you need a light that focuses on a specific point, this may not be the bulb for you. The bulb simply does not put out as many lumens on the end, as it does on the sides. The bulb would be great for a table lamp with a shade, but not as strong in a directional reading lamp. Other than the potential issue with LED directionality, these CREE 40w equivalents may be as bright as a 60W equivalent CFL or 60W incandescent. Maybe even brighter. Recently, they dropped the price on the 60W equivalent so I'll be picking some up. These are very good bulbs, with very little to worry about. I do not use the bulbs in a dimmable fixture, so I wouldn't know anything about that.

          Great value
Obviously easy to install, once the old bulb has cooled. Gives off a great light at a much lower energy usage. Once the spotlights come down more in price I will buy more of those also.

It was the only bulb that I could use in a particular area of my house.
It is very difficult to get the product I would like in spite of a varied selection in that department. Overall, the clerks in Home Depot in my area are very helpful and spend all the time necessary to help me with my needs.

Won't have to climb for quite awhile.
We have one of those chandeliers that doesn't take small-base bulbs, so the "flame-shaped" LED bulbs originally purchased elsewhere didn't fit. (Been awhile since we climbed up there and we don't use the dining room often, so we'd forgotten the size we needed.) The flared glass cups are frosted, anyway, so it seemed a smart idea to buy regular LED light bulbs and not obsess about the shape of the bulbs. We're getting older and hate having to climb to replace bulbs, so we imposed on a younger friend for this operation, but we hate having to impose just as much. LEDs are supposed to last a heck of a lot longer and use less energy, which is why we were switching to LEDs. We hope that now we won't have to worry about the light fixture for quite some time. The chandelier is much too bright for dining when all the bulbs are blazing regardless of the type of bulb, which is why we'd also added a dimmer switch a few years ago. We thought these new (well, new to us) dimmable LEDs were a great idea. These LED's don't dim quite as much as we'd like, but it still makes the light levels more comfortable than they would otherwise be. Just wish we could find a 25W equivalent with the same size base.

          Researched extensively all LED's available.
After extensive research on Led bulbs ( which was a lot) I chose to do the whole house in Cree. A little expensive up front but great quality, nice warm white and 10 year guarantee. Saving 392 watts on one Kovacs 8 bulb art lamp. My wife loves it and can put it on all she wants and I don't care. It's a new house came with CFL's and hated them. Definitely worth the investment. She also likes dimmers and I have them in 3 separate rooms. Work well.
