Take it from an engineer...
Awesome product. Superior to CFLs in every way. Works at -17F (I tested it). Works for 100k+ on/off cycles (I tested it). Excellent light output both in color and omnidirectional. Cannot be beat. Install them anywhere you use the fixture more than a couple hours per day.

Great Replacement for CFL or Standard Incandescent Bulbs
I had been using CFL bulbs in most fixtures, but was never fond of the light quality, performance (slow to warm up), electrical interference, buib life, etc. This is the first LED bulb that I've come across that combines excellent light quality and brightness at a reasonable price. The bulb shape is an exact match for standard bulbs and they also are safety coated (which makes them slightly sticky to the touch) so they will not shatter if dropped. The energy efficiency cannot be beaten either - even compared to CFL bulbs. These also work reasonably well in conjunction with dimmers, but not as well as standard incandescent bulbs on the very low light end of the spectrum. The light is also not quite as uniform in direction as a standard bulb with a dark spot on the very top, which makes them slightly less than perfect in some situations - like a pendant fixture or bare bulb on a ceiling - but they still perform acceptably for me in these applications. I used these 40W equivalent in bathroom vanities where I had been using 40W clear incandescent and have found the light to be considerably brighter. These have worked well in several other fixtures where I had previously been using 60W soft white bulbs - enclosed hall lights, ceiling fan, outdoor lantern, garage door opener, and kitchen range hood to name a few.

Cree LED light bulbs.
I love these bulbs and have actually replaced all the flouresents in our home, plus they are made in the US!! But on my last few trips to Home Depot where the were once prominently displayed on the front end cap they were now down in the bulb isle, and on my last trip there was very little stock and Inreally had to search for them, and I'm seeing the Phillips LED bulbs up front now. Not gonna be happy if these bulbs are no longer supported by Home Depot.

    NICE LIGHT BUT PRICEY
THIS BULB THROWS A NICE WHITE LIGHT. NOT LIKE EARLIER FLOURESCENT BULBS. ALTHOUGH BULB IS A BIT PRICEY. THE REAL TEST WILL BE HOW LONG THE BULB LASTS TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS WORTH THE PRICE. A NICE FEATURE IS ITS DIMABLE

Nice light overall, but not ideal for some locations..
I found the lumen output or brightness level to be above average for these equivalent 40 watt bulbs. They do appear to have good build quality overall. I'm not an engineer, but the heat sinks are well designed compared to other led bulbs I have tried. The biggest disappointment is that these bulbs do not give off as good of light spectrum as other light bulbs I use. I know incandescent bulbs are dying a slow death these days, but the reds especially are not as bright in objects under these leds as my halogens or incandescent bulbs. The reds in apples are rather dim compared to my other bulbs. I wish Cree would improve that color output. I'm using halogen bulbs at my work desk for now until Cree or someone else can make a better led bulb.. Fix the red output Cree!!!

    These bulbs are great
They're bright and they're supposed to last. I wish the price would come down. But they're still supposed to be worth it. Ten times better than fluorescent.

Good price AND made in the USA!
Although these LED lights are listed as dimmable, our electrician was more comfortable installing a dimmer that can be used with LED lights. Wonderful to find something made in the USA and a Consumer Reports recommendation.

    Works with X10 Switches
For those of you looking for an LED bulb that works with a standard or dimable X10 switch this one works! Finally an alternative to incandescents. Thank you Cree!

      This is a great bulb
Although I just bought it, I feel it will last a long time. It has a rubbery feel to the glass so I'm not afraid of breaking or dropping it and the base seems well-made. This product was recommended to me by a Home Depot employee after I had selected a different brand. I don't even need a wattage as high as I thought because these give great light. No warm-up time either-they are bright immediately. This is my first CF bulb experience so I can't really compare to others but I like this product.

      Made in the USA
These bulbs have the warm color of the old tungsten bulbs and use a fraction of the power. Only time will tell if they last as long as they should, but I expect they will. And, they're made in the USA!

      Great Product-Sreep Price
Great light output and coverage. Initial high price will eventually be offset if the bulbs last as long as they say. I have had them about a month and so far happy with purchase.

      Electric bill SMASHER
My electric bill was reduced by over 50% when I converted all of my bulbs to Cree LEDs. They are as beautiful looking as incandescent lights, cool to the touch, and super energy efficient.

        LED light bulb
I love how bright this light is without using all of the energy as the regular light bulb. Won't need to change the bulb for years to come. Love that I'm helping save energy.

        Great LED bulbs
I wanted to lower my electric bill and replace my incandescent bulbs, but dimmable LED bulbs have been too expensive, until now. Got a discount on the 40W and 60W equivalent CREE LED bulbs, and I'm very happy with them. They look similar to incandescents, but use 6X less energy. When you add up every light that your kids leave on, the long term savings begin to make sense.

        Great light bulb!
This Cree LED bulb is indistinguishable from regular bulbs in color and light diffusion. And, they have no warm up time like CFL's.

As good as incandescent with 1/10 the energy used
We decided to try several Cree 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs in our kitchen where the lights are on all the time and we like to be able to dim them (which you can't with most compact fluorescent bulbs). They turn on instantly and seem as bright as the bulbs they replaced. They have a nice warm "soft white" color temperature. LEDs use MUCH less energy than incandescent bulbs and even less than CFLs so we should save on our electric bills over the long haul. The only downside we have noticed is the LED bulbs do not dim down as much as incandescent bulbs, but for us this is not a major drawback. At this point we have no way to tell if they will last as long as the manufacturer claims. Hope so . . . Check the labels on the bulb packages carefully - some LED bulbs are rated "daylight" rather than soft white.

        Good fridge light
Bought this bulb with the intention of using it in our refrigerator. It gives off just as much light as the old incandescent one without producing near as much heat. However when installing it the socket was just small enough that the base of the bulb would not screw down all the way into it which didn't allow contact at the bottom. So, I put a washer in the bottom of the socket and it works fine. I gave it a 4 star rating only because the base of the bulb was not long enough to fit all the way into the socket. Perhaps there is a better led bulb out there for this application but I have not seen it.

First high efficiency bulb I've liked
I have tried a lot of high efficiency light bulbs and have been disappointed with all as compared with the old incandescent bulbs UNTIL this one. It looks almost identical to the old incandescents in the bathroom fixture that I installed it in. The light is almost identical in color tone and response. It is on and as bright as the old ones as soon as the switch is turned on. This bulb even passes my wife's makeup test. She hates how most of the high efficiency bulbs make everything look pale and washed out. This bulb preserves natural flesh tones and gives off a warm glow. I haven't tried it in a dimmable fixture. It is a bit expensive, but if it lasts like it is supposed to, it will be worth it in the long run.

        returned immediately
Bought these bulbs because of the great price. I got them on sale that week. When I took them out of the box, they had a sticky residue where the glass dome meets the plastic housing. I purchased 9 bulbs and they all had it. So this wasn't a one off type thing. I ignored the aesthetics of the bulbs and installed them and noticed a humming coming from the bulbs. I wondered if it was the fixture I installed them in, so I put them in another fixture that had different 40 watt LEDs already installed, and they still hummed. Knowing the other bulbs didn't hum, I knew these were not up to par. Returned them immediately.

Best LED Light bulb for the money.
I purchased these to replace my dimmable Feit LED light bulbs as they did not dim properly. The CREE bulbs give a superior and warmer light, and dim quite well. I would, and will, purchase again.
