Quality has really deteriorated
I've used quite a few of these, male & female, to salvage squirrel-damaged hoses. They used to be much better than their competitors with plastic clamps. But the quality of these has dropped through the floor. The problem is that the part that inserts into the hose starts to separate from the threaded piece. It seems like the end of the insert isn't sufficiently flared, or the metal is too soft, for it to stay inside the threaded piece. I'll be looking for an alternative. Note gap in my pics.

    Rusts and binds permanently
Total garbage. Will rust and clash with dissimilar metals and ruin both this part and the other thing you connect it to. Orbit is trash.

      Fall apart
I’ve used these in the past with much success, but probably a different brand as these fall apart almost immediately with any sort of sideways pressure on the connection. Literally the hose insert peels away from the female end making it useless. After going thru 3 of these this spring alone, guess i’ll just buy a new hose. Bummer. Good way to save a 100’ hose.

Broke right away when screwing onto faucet.
I cut the hose to remove the broken connector. To make it easier to push this product onto the hose, I softened the hose with a blow dryer. I then installed the clamp, using the two screws. When I connected it to the faucet, the part that screws onto the faucet popped loose. I was not able to use this at all.

I do not recommend this hose mender. The shaft body does fit well onto a 5/8 hose, the clamp does hold the hose well, however as I was attaching it onto the end of the spigot the coupler (threaded part) separated off the shaft body of the mender. It just slipped off the body. My recommendation is do not buy this product. If there were a zero star rating available, that is how would have rated this product.

Look at the before and after photo I just uploaded before you buy this product please
I bought a half dozen of these and they eventually corrode like there is no tomorrow (they are made out of the wrong metal!) (See the photo I uploaded for the before and after comparisons!) The females are worse than the males because the females are two parts (they have to spin). The corrosion causes the females to always leak & then break at the neck well before the males. But both corrode like there is no tomorrow because it's simply the wrong metal. Sure, metal is better than plastic in a harsh sunlit outside environment - but it's still made out of the wrong metal. Why they can't make these out of brass is beyond my comprehension. Nobody cares about weight nor about the color - what we care about is that it works for more than just a year or two. On the plus side the heavy well rounded squeeze block is really nice and the metal screws grip well in the metal base. The lack of sharp edges is a huge plus over the hose clamp designs. I really like the clamps - and screws - which are fine made out of whatever metal they're made out of. But those good parts of the design are all for naught when the threaded part corrodes in just a year or two! Especially the female ends which always break at the point where it spins. And, trust me, it ALWAYS fails well before the supposed 7 year warranty lifetime. Save your receipts. I didn't. I should have. These all failed well before the warranty period. It's just a bad design. They can't help but fail. They should be brass. (See the photo I uploaded for the before and after comparisons!) This may be a perfectly fine part for an ordinary hose. I have fixed many of my hoses over a few decades, using both plastic and metal parts: male, female, and end-to-end. This time I needed the female part for a heavy-duty garden hose, purchased long ago probably for freezing climate. The problem is the big difference between inside and outside diameter. This one was just the right size to barely be able to push/pound the plastic tapered repair part inside the hose after warming said hose. No way a larger one would have fit. That finished, I tried to fasten the outer zinc part over the hose, but it was clearly too small. Having dealt with this problem many times in past, I really squeezed it, but the included bolts were just too short to reach across the gap. So I found some longer bolts in my stash with the exact right diameter, and was able to attach and tighten, though leaving a gap. I thought this would work, but alas, the thing leaks like a sieve. I have not run across repair parts made for these thick garden hoses, so maybe the answer is to locate two menders and use the smaller size for the inside, and the larger size for the outside, and then discarding the unused halves. I haven't tried this, though. Also, just FYI the gold colored part appears to be painted, rather than a brass-colored metal. I tried calling the number listed by Orbit for customer assistance, but the wait was too long, and the time required to return a $5 part is probably not justified. I suppose I should buy new hoses, but it is kind of fun to fix this old stuff.

While good in concept, the metal collar that is supposed to clamp around the hose just doesn't hold it well enough. No matter how I position the hose or tighten the clamp, there is always a leak. The hose slips put after a few days of use and I have to constantly reconnect the hose and tighten the collar.

Reinstalled 3 times. Still leaking past the fitting. .aybe wrong size for my 3/4 inch hose. Screws on clamp just barely long enough, after using large adjustable wrench to hold clamp closed while screwing together.

I purchased this due to the fact that my hose was stuck to the faucet and couldn't be removed. I had to have a pro out to replace it. The hose was still in good shape and so i used this hose mender and it was exactly what i needed. Easy to install and made of hearty materials. It also looks a lot better than a strap clamp that can rust or be over tightened. This is the second one that i have purchased, i had to replace a previous hose that got ran over by my car. I would totally recommend this product.

#1 was Dud - Unable to unscrew it because screw was "frozen" and was stripped in the effort. #2 Fell Apart - The second one I tested with a screwdriver in the store before buying to make sure screws weren't frozen, but after "fixing" my hose and attaching it to the hose bib, the hose just fell off the threaded collar! Turns out the part that is inserted into the hose is only attached to the threaded collar by a minimal flange, so it easily detached when I pulled the hose. Other people apparently have had this issue, too (see Jay's review March 16, 2017).

It is easy to install and works well. However, the previous identical one I replaced with this new one froze up and I could not turn the rotating part after letting it sit outdoors several years without using it. So, be sure to exercise it occasionally, otherwise, like me, you will need to replace it.
