Our original exhaust fans were so noisy (4 sones) they drowned out any running water. Slim 50's are the opposite, they're so quiet (1 sone) you don't hear the fans with running water. We ordered these online and got fast delivery. BTW: check any product specs for adequate CFM and especially for replacements look for matching exhaust port diameter (often 3 or 4-inch).

Best choice for a direct replacement, in-wall, bath fan! Pros: -Piece of cake to install from inside the bathroom, if you can replace a light fixture you can install this little guy. -Updated grill design is nice and modern (could be a touch thinner) -Worlds better than the horrible train wreck sound of our old fan -I like the slow ramp up it does when it turns on -Immediately gets all the moisture out of our bathroom when the doors are open (before it would take about a half hour without a fan) -Delta has given us awesome customer service in the past on other products, very happy their product was the best fit for our wall fan replacement in our 117 year old house Cons: -Only reason I docked a star: the 80CFM is .6 sones, the 50CFM is 1 sone, why is this 70CFM TWO SONES? =( I'm not saying 2 sones is terrible, it's definitely not, I just can't understand why this fan is 2-3 times louder than the fans above and below it. I'm sensitive to sounds and I would call this fan noticeable but not at all annoying, the sound won't stop me from using it, and I'm happy it's available to replace the dinosaur of a fan we had before. -This does a good job of working in our 8.5' x 7' x 9' ceiling bathroom. I did order the 80CFM originally but our old house wasn't easily accommodating to make the existing hole big enough, so we bumped down to this one. During my very scientific shower test it did take much longer for the mirrors to get foggy, they fogged completely by end of the shower, and we still had a couple condensation drips on our walls, which we were really hoping the fan would prevent. Once out of the shower, the fan was very slow at defogging the mirrors—watching the grass grow, slow. However, once I opened the doors on our jack and jill bathroom, the mirrors almost instantly cleared when before it would've taken quite a while without a fan. Typically we shower with the doors open anyway so B+ on really putting it to the test, A+ on the daily use scenario. Overall, this fan is hands down the go-to pick if you need to replace an old in-wall fan.

Well made exhaust fan. Relatively quiet with plenty of power. I installed this unit as a replacement for an existing wall mounted fan. Biggest gripe is the outlet is so close to the front edge of the housing that if you mount the housing flush with the drywall you have to cut a notch in the drywall to attach the vent pipe. Also a couple of pre punched holes in the side to facilitate mounting screws from the inside would be appreciated. No big deal I just made them myself but it would have been nice if they were already there. Lastly the grille though nice and clean looking sticks out too far. Would have and could have been made better if just a little flatter for a more flush appearance. None the less very pleased with this fan. Would definitely recommend to someone else.

This bath fan is not virtually silent but much quieter than old AC motor fan. I didn't have attic access above this fan, So I need direct replacement in terms of cut out size and duct size. It does move air well.

High quality fan, maybe not 2 sones
I bought this fan because it was a great deal for a 2 sones fan, and also because the box dimensions were the same as the one I was replacing. I still had to install the new box (accessing it through the attic--ugh) which was a pain, but at least I didn't have to cut drywall! After wiring it up and everything, installing the fan into the box and putting the cover in place took about 30 seconds. Way easy. The fan is much quieter than my old 4 sones fan but I have a hard time believing it's 2 sones. I would guess 2.5, but then what do I know? It is a really nice, high quality fan though. We've been really pleased!

Good fan, but electrical connection from top could be a problem.
This is a well made fan and a good value compared to others in its size, CFM and sone ranges. Reasonably quiet. Had a problem with installation because the top punch out hole for connecting the wiring to our rigid metal electrical conduit was too close to a metal side wall on the fan. Everything looks like it will fit when the access panel is off for making the connection, but there isn't enough clearance when reassembled. As the result, you could not fit the electrical connector locking nut onto the connector inside the fan housing. Contacted Delta Breeze and they concurred that it is a problem, but they could not provide a viable solution for my problem. Returned the unit and bought a similar one, but this time an electrician used the optional side access punch out hole and it worked OK. The return at my local Home Depot was quick and easy.

This was a great solution to replace an old early '70s wall exhaust.
Nothing else was slim enough to fit in a partition wall. I only had to remove about 1 " of drywall around the perimeter of the old opening to fit it. Plus, it is quiet and energy star rated and a great price, even compared to most other 70 cfm fans. Again, this is a great solution to replacing older, undersized bath exhausts. Hope this helps.

      Quiet !!!!!
We have had the most noisy bathroom exhaust fan for 15 years, and it didn't exhaust well either. This was not the easiest task but most of my difficulty was in removing the old unit. It is so quiet when taking a shower you don't hear it at all. And it exhausts way better than the old one too. I'm very happy with this purchase and so is my wife. We hope the quality is good and it lasts!! Home Depot was speedy on the delivery and cheaper than other retailers too.

The fan has an annoying high pitched wine to it. I installed 2 fans. Both were the same. I would not recommend this product.

This fan does what it was supposed to do, which is get the air moving. I have it in a 1/2 bathroom on the wall. The depth is ideal in the wall because I only had 4 inches to spare. The motor is quiet to me, although our reference point was one from the 60's. There is a slight 3-4 second pause once you turn the switch on, and I suspect that is probably due to its energy star rating so that it doesn't power up too much. Once it starts, it gets up to speed quickly and moves the air in the room very well and we like it very much. The white grill was easy to put on using the typical spring setup that are on most of these fans. I would buy it again for the price and the unique size that I needed.

Does not have enough power to evacuate humidity from the shower in a small bathroom.

Nice fan, very quiet. Does a decent exhaust job, but the only reason I don't give it five stars is it doesn't clear out all the steam after a shower in my small bathroom. I wish it cleared more out so I can see in the mirror afterwards.
